  1. Maybe that the 3 is bottomed out to the inside of the dial and not the outside???
  2. Amazing...I've recieved packages Sunday morning after church!!!
  3. Best use for a gel dryer I've heard!!!! What sort of work do you do? My fellowship was in Infectious Disease research and I had a long background in protein expression in Listeria and other gram positive pathogens before medical school.
  4. Oh I grant you...I'm very paranoid...but that doesn't mean people aren't out to get me! My genuine SMP chrono is an anniversary present from my wife. I'm not going to risk a lifetime of "I told you so" by wearing it in water. Besides, I have a friend who has lost TWO Sea-Dwellers in the ocean over the years while surfing....both to major wipeouts. He believes the $0.20 springbars in his $4000 watches were the weak links!!! As they say in the classic car biz...some cars are driven...some are trailer queens.... My watches...my very good watches... are not for wearing into battle no matter how armor plated they are. They are jewelry to me. If I need to know what time it is while I'm immersed in water, I'll wear something that cost $150, not $2500. That just makes sense to me.
  5. Water resistance on a rep is a crap shoot. Testing to 5 ATM means you can get it wet with a reasonable amount of confidence...but little else. Now, there are those here who will tell stories of diving to depths with reps etc.....the fact is that a truly reliable diving watch, like a Seiko Diver, is engineered and manufactured to far better tolerances than a standard replica of diving watch like a Sub or a Pam. This doesnt mean a replica diving watch with greased seals and o-rings can't be used underwater...it just means that the chances you are going to emerge from the surf with a fogged crystal some day are far greater with a replica. Like walking a tightrope, it only takes one mistake to ruin your day. Just to let you know where I'm coming from, I have a genuine SMP chrono that I won't get near the shower!!!! My history with "water resistant" genuines has been spotty enough that I keep any watch of value high and dry. My water watch is a $150 Seiko....bullet proof and very replaceable.
  6. It's so interesting to watch the classic progression of a replica watch patron from the "Irrational exhuberance" of the early days to a more sober understanding that not every decent looking replica is worth owning.....and on to the unfortunate reality that only a handful of these watches are actually reasonable timepieces in terms of quality and value. When I first came here, I thought dealers like Josh were my access to watch heaven and watches like the IWC GST Chrono and the Bentley GT were almost every bit as good as the genuine article and I greedily bought them up as fast, and sometimes faster, than I could afford them. I now realize that most of these watches are marginal performers at best. There's a lot of junk out there. Some of the best values are $90 21Js.....some of the worst...the $400+ "Super Reps". I'm about to enter my MBW phase....who knows how this will change my life and my bank account. Corgi....as for the price increases....they do it because we will pay it...simple as that.
  7. I agree but who can figure collectables. A valuables box from 1690 that looked like crap went for 2 million USD at auction about 5 years ago. Give me a good old $75,000 Goddard Towsend Secretary any day of the week
  8. There's one on the bay now for $88,000
  9. Worst of the worst rip off sites. Stay here and read and search and ask and listen and......If you didn't jump into the replica world out there with a Visa card at the ready...you'll soon be thanking your lucky stars you found this place. If you did spend a fortune for tin plated brass...be prepared for a rude awakening to just how ripped off you got!!!!
  10. The only replica watch I can see being an investment is a MBW and only if access becomes much more difficult. Look what happened to the old Moonwatch that's unavailable today. It commands a premium price. Among watches, the guys are right, very difficult to predict..best you can usually count on is a watch that will retain most of its original sale value....like a Genuine Submariner or a Moonwatch. Limited Editions are a much harder call.
  11. TTK is not a dealer. He is a procurer of fine pieces and sells what he feels like to whomever he feels like. I could be dead wrong, but there's something of a pecking order here and I don't think he's going to sell to a newcomer with 2 posts. Sorry.
  12. When I sell a used watch, I usually sell it at 80% because the next owner is getting a watch with very light use, few if any cosmetic problems, and usually regulated.
  13. Best place to shop for a Rolex is careful shopping among lightly used pieces on ebay. Rolex has a policy of not discounting prices among its official distributors so you wont see any "Rolex Sales" at your local jewelers. For pieces other than Rolex, no better more discounted bargains than Zeetans place at http://www.collectorstime.com/.
  14. A new open class Zeneth is going to run you $5000-$12,0000. Beautiful watch though. Zenith is going a little ape sh*^ with their newer versions of this watch. The latest look like something out of Captain Nemo's collection. These first generation designs are much more timeless.
  15. Well,...I see at least 5 Sea Dwellers......could this mean......OMG...OMG.....you have my 1665!!!!!! Yahoooooo!!!!
  16. Is there any doubt an MBW 1665 with a genuine movement, dial, bezel, case tube and crown would be the "Ultimate Sub"? I have also heard the genuine movement swap was not possible without prohibitive owner operated case mods. This IS an epic, rep life changing post.
  17. Bump Hello TTK......any word on that MBW 1665 to CK in Wallingford PA USA??????????
  18. Man, this is all I need, another potential $1500 worth of mods to this watch. These movements do go for $900-$1200 on ebay. It's nice to know I dont have to mount my MBW case (when I get the damn MBW.....hello out there...you know who...who has my address and my $350 ) in a metalworking lathe to do the depth adjustment. I will do this some day. Who will know a fully modded MBW 1665 with a genuine movement isn't the $10,000 real deal short of a serial number check??? Zigs, could this case mod and movement install be in your repertoire??????
  19. Me too....but first I want my 1665 ..Nudge..nudge...wink...wink....say no more...say no more.... OK...enough subtle hints to our MBW master. I do have a question. Just what does the MBW label mean these days? If this is an MBW and carries the reputation of the watches from that mythic producer, will it accept genuine parts? From what I have been told, only the 1680 and 1665 MBWs are OEM interchangeable pieces. These modern MBW subs will not accept OEM crystals, have to be drilled and tapped to accept OEM case tubes and crowns.....so what's so MBW about them besides place of origin?????
  20. A little mathematical word of warning Moving Running seconds anywhere=many extra gears always running=imminent failure=junk
  21. I love this post!!! Laughing from start to finish. Boozy, passionate truth. I hope tomorrow is an off day! Good Night
