  1. Are you serious? I can understand wanting....but do you have expectation the replica parts manufactures and assembly houses are capible of producing a replica, even without the tourbi, like this??? Like Solozzo said to Michael in the Godfather just before Michael put a bullet in his head "You think too much of me kid. I'm not that clever"
  2. OK back to this lovely......I see a couple of replicas right there!!!!! Ah yes, she's a beautiful MBW. Aftermarket parts fitting just perfectly! Lucky SOB
  3. I'd be willing to wager the house and the car and the safe deposit box your rep isnt 5ml plated...but if you are happy with the performance of the plating so far....that's fine. For a reality check on what a respectable commercial plating outfit regards as a good quality plating, check out the thickness chart at artisanplating.com. A 5 micron plating is in the range of an "extra heavy gold plating" and quite expensive. I think you are giving our Asian manufacturers credit for honesty in advertising and intrinsic quality in manufacturing that isnt part of their manufacturing credo. I believe, if you do not have allergic skin reactive problems with the ingredients, continuous application of thin coats of an automotive car wax to plated reps can do wonders to extend the wearability and appearance of even a thin plating. I have a hard time investing hundreds of dollers in a watch that has a predetermined expiration date on looking like the genuine article. Decent commercial re-plating options are pretty expensive. Lousy cheap ones are lousy and cheap...in the 0.25 to 0.75 micron range. I usually advise sticking to stainless.
  4. Here's a real one, not a deployant http://cgi.ebay.com/Breitling-Watch-Crocod...1QQcmdZViewItem Stitching is heavier, leather inside is the right color and not lacquered, croc skin is semi matte not lacquered shinny...and its real croc. As far as I know, Breitling does not offer croc grained leather
  5. Aside from some obvious quality giveaways,....the description contains the dreaded disclaimer "Breitling croc STYLE strap". A genuine leather Breitling tang strap goes for about $150. A croc tang buckle for $400. A croc deployant.....maybe $600-$700. Not a genuine.
  6. Ahemm.....Holy crap We've got some lucky dudes in this thread!
  7. That was his beloved Shark watch that he wore till it fell apart. He's not a watch dude yet but..... For graduation he gets a laptop for college. Pugs...a little Stephen King looking there!!!!
  8. Thanks Fell in love on the spot when I first saw her.....31 years ago when we were 16!!! Good God...my bones feel old
  9. OK, I'll bite My beautiful wife Anastasia and our son Joshua. Tasha and I look about the same but this pic is about 5 years old now and Josh is a 230 lb moose. He graduates from High School this Friday,......sigh..
  10. There are no commercially available mechanical chronograph movements with the Daytona layout for sec at 6. It's an in house rolex design. The 11 gear shuffle on the Asian 7750 is an amazing effort to take a base caliber and gear it up to look like another movement layout but the clone 7750 doesnt have the refinement to get enough power through all of those changes dependably. Ziggy compared it to towing your boat with a 4 cylinder car....it just wont work.
  11. See you in September Ziggy.. My SS Sub will see you on July 7th!!! Regards Chris
  12. Omega SMP Chrono Genuine Hamilton Dodson Gold Genuine Rolex SS Submariner ETA Replica Seiko "Black Monster" SS Bracelet Genuine Hamilton Jazzmaster Chrono (7753 movement) Rose Gold Genuine One's that rarely get out IWC FA Jones Replica Raymond Weil Don Giovanni Genuine Bulova Two Tone Marine Star Genuine Seiko Diver Yellow Dial/Rubber Strap Genuine Seiko "President" Gold 21J Automatic Genuine Seiko Alarm Chrono (Wedding gift from my wife) Casio G-Shock Genuine And 5 or 6 more that cost less than $50 each to buy including a couple of Timex ironman, Loris, etc...
  13. Gold plated watches from china are a crapshoot. I have a very nice FA Jones in Rose Gold that I wear about 3 times a month and it is doing just fine. I have heard horror stories from owners who have had their plated Chinese watches brown from the brass base metal tarnishing under a 0.25 micron plating just sitting in the box. I've stated my case here several times. The very best gold plating from high end Swiss companies is in the 10 micron to 20 micron range. This is an extrordinarily thick plating. "Gold filled" watches and jewelry are a thick wrap of 10K gold physically bonded through temperature and pressure to a metal (usually brass) substrate with a plating of 10 microns of 14K-18K gold on top of that. This is generally known as a 20 year plating. The very best, highest quality aftermarket plating processes deposit 5-7 microns of gold, a thickness that should last 5-10 years in normal use. Run of the mill plating on plated Seikos and Citizens for example are in the 2-5 micron range. Given all of this information, I have always had strong reservations about Asian gold claims. I think all "wrapped" claims are bunk if they are attempting to infer a "gold filled" process in that terminology. Given the accepted quality aspect in a true 5 micron plating, I have no doubt claims of 5 micron plating on asian replicas are nonsense. From what we know of business practices in this part of the world and, in particular, the illegal counterfeit business, the gold plate on replica watches is thick enough, to look good enough long enough to separate the seller from any responsibility for its longevity. If a 0.75 micron plating is good enough to wear every day for 18 months before it looks like like crap and the buyer gets annoyed, then that's plenty of gold.
  14. I've been through the "So many watches...so little time" phase. When I owned 25, I wore the same 5. So now I own 12 and I wear the same 5. At some point, I'll get down to just the 5 I wear. There could be a Raymond Weil Don Giovanni genuine mint going up in the sellers section in a few days. My wife gave it to me and I wear it every 90 days or so just to get it out of the garage. It's beautiful...but just not me. To me, my genuine SMP Chrono goes with a bathing suit and a business suit. Sometimes value trumps style. It's a tool watch yes but no one is going to think a chunk of Bond metal is going to look out of place on my wrist at Aunt Jane's funeral.
  15. I don't get the incredibly expensive consumer cost of some of the high end winders. I saw a 12 watch winder/display case made from beautiful Indian Rosewood with quality mechanics for.....$9900?????? What the hell? I can buy a Kia Rio with a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty for that much. I guess it's luxury item price gouging. If you have 12 high end automatic watches to wind, then they figure 10K on a winder is a drop in the bucket. I wish someone made a quality winder that fell in a nice grey zone pricewise between the absolute crap from outfits like gadgetbestbuy and the off the charts stuff. Given what goes into a DC motor and some quality gearing, I would think someone could give us Orbita quality for less than $125 a watch.
  16. Hey, I'm squatting and getting ready to thread crap.... We're nuts to be paying $150 for these things. That movement is a $2.00 wholesale piece of crap. Ahhhhh, I feel better!
  17. You have the right to not type anything else Anything you do type can and will be held against you in the court of forum public opinion..... BTW, each post has a date stamp.
  18. Opinions from all retentive Sub experts on the quality of the modern 16610 MBW submariner. Is it all OEM interchangeable including crystal? Is the bracelet a step above in elusive feel like the vintage MBWs supposedly are? What about the lume...is it first rate? Any and all opinions are welcome. I'm thinking of scrapping my mod plans for my standard high quality off the shelf sub and going for the holy grail as a platform for some ridiculous spending!
  19. I have an errection! What a pair of beautiful pieces. I'm wearing my genuine SMP today. That rep dial is so perfect, the wave pattern is spot on to the real deal so much so that it is in the correct orientation and spacing around the markers and dial details. This is a replica that would make me consider selling the genuine! And the Breitling is just plain lights out.
  20. Terrific news. I have a couple of questions for retentive Submariner experts. I'm not much into vintage but I would consider the modern 16610 MBW Sub if it really had the characteristics of the classic MBW. I see TTK lists easy bezel insert, crown and case tube exchangeability with OEM parts. Is the crystal exchangeable as well? From the pictures, it looks as if the cyclops position is first rate so perhaps a crystal replacement would not be necessary. Does this watch have the well described MBW "feel", that is a solid, silky genuinelike feel to the bracelet? The topic of the out of the box accuracy of the vintage MBWs has been well debated here and I always opted to not purchase one. Is the MBW modern closer to the real deal and does it have all the upgradeability options of the vintage replica?
  21. Depends on the potential. One night stand....an impressive replica and a condom. Potential relationship...a genuine...no sense starting out a meaningful encounter with a lie. Save those up for afternoons on the golf course.
  22. This will go for less than 2K. beautiful and very well cared for. Near mint http://cgi.ebay.com/Omega-SEAMASTER-CHRONO...1QQcmdZViewItem here's a new one just a little over your budget http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-OMEGA-SEAMASTER-JA...1QQcmdZViewItem Im sure you can find one for 2k with a little searching
  23. I don't understand your question. Will your watch stay on your wrist if you wear it into a pool with a leather strap? Sure. Will the strap age, look different, dry out, crack or show any of the signs of hard use...of course. If you want your replica or genuine to look new and cared for then you have to care for it. I take off my watches when I pull clothes out of the washing machine. My Dad wears his Girard Peregeaux when he paints the house. To each his own.
  24. Genuine SMP Chrono. You can find them for around 2K. If you want a strap, I'd suggest an Oris Artilier Chronograph with the modified 7753 movement on a deployant croc strap. It'll set you back $1700 and they are beautiful.
  25. What knid of Kool-Aid are you drinking to resurrect an almost 1 year old dead thread with a comment as innane as this one????? Must be very booooooring up there!!!
