  1. 1 (it's IWC), 8 (because of the Mille Miglia legend), 13 (it's IWC), 3 (always keep at least one true dress watch) and definately get yourself a 3717 and Ingy ;-)
  2. had to be patient after I recieved the Ingy and 3717 allready 2 weeks ago, but saturday my local watchsmith was finally back from his holidays and fixed these 2 beauties straight-away... Sorry for the late-night pic's but have been busy all weekend with the family as it might be these were the last rays of sun we will see this summer in the NL's enjoy!
  3. my first IWC was a GST Chrono... these can be had for as little as 220USD at www.pam111.com incl. shipping and need little or no mods to proudly wear it.... as it's an asian 7750 you can expect it to fail at some point in time, for me this took 2 years and was fixed for 7euro's by my local watchguy (the small second hand of the chrono fell of).... so perhaps the ingy is the more 'safe' choice with regards to movement. but remember; if you start taking it apart for DW-change, relume or AR-treatment, there's always the change of a failure during the re-assembly and shipping the watch around through regular mail.... be warned though on the IWC-virus... after 2 years of rep-pleasure I couldn't help myself and spoiled myself after a promotion by buying a gen mkXVI ;-)
  4. http://www.cousinsuk.com/searchresults.asp...t=7750_movement The go for "Val 7750 Movement" did not find the 7753 though... I'm also looking for a 2824-2 movement, so perhaps they could make a nice price for a combination of movements? guess it's mainly the quantity they are after...
  5. Anybody interested in a ETA 7750? At Cousins UK they charge 295GBP a piece, but drop the price to 185 if you order 5 or more... Who's interested? Or knows any address where they charge similar prices a piece?
  7. have you read eunomians post on his mk XV? http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...33545&hl=xv Furthermore the board has been begging for a rep of the XVI for years now, but I decided to stop waiting and went for the GEN Read the full post and pay special attention to page 17 for advice on alternatives like the Stowa http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...0&start=320 anyway; if your new to rep's, a rep with an ETA-2824 movement, crystal glass and no 7750 chrono issues would be a perfect start. I'd say; go for it!
  8. My favorites are the - IWC GST SS with white dial (great with a blue suit and white shirt due to the white dial and gold markers) - (Gen) IWC Classic Pilot mk XVI (only 39mm) on my wish list for dress watches: - IWC Portugueser (but beware of the seconds at 6 o'clock) - IWC Pilot Chrono 3717.01 - IWC Spitfire Chrono 3717.02
  9. that's the answer everybody was expecting but nobody heard up till now... In my case that's the reason why I stopped waiting... For anybody who cannot afford the step I did and is looking for an alternative, there's more to it than the Fortis. How about the Stowa? That's also one of the watchmakers that delivered watches to the fighter pilots during WWII (although we all guess that for this manufacturer all were delivered to germans where IWC was also supplying to the british airforce). But nevertheless a great watch which can be bought with multiple options, including a regulated ETA 2824-2, with or without date, with or without logo, etc more info on: http://stowa.de/
  10. too bad I've missed to GTG on board.... love the combination of sun and water just like SS and leather ;-) any ideas for a new date after the holidays yet?
  11. I'm still not sure to go for a (second) GST (this time Ti) or one of these nice aquatimers. Since my current GST is allready SS, I'm thinking of a nice Ti this time.. any one knows if this one is also available in Ti? And what about sizes? The GST is 39mm and looks great... What's the smallest Aquatimer? I've seen them with both 42.5 and 44 mm...
  12. Thanks Jorg for this excellen comparison... And indeed... Holding the 3717 with all the mods done by experts and a really nice gator strap made my allready subconsiously made decision easy... Owning a GEN feels great, but does not make you switch over to the 'other side'. I'm still a big fan of Rep's! So the pilot chrono is on my wish-list! Just like the Ingy, the Slevin, the .... But first I'll go and spend my money on 2 weeks of holidays in La France.
  13. many reasons to say these 2 cannot be compared even if they're bot rep or gen, but let's give it a start: Size: Both are 39 mm; the XVI is 11.5mm thick and though the GST is only 13mm it looks more 'massive' the double AR of the XVI is highly required with the black dial; my GST is a white dial and does not really need the AR, but the shine on the crystal is huge difference the Lume on the markers and hands of the XVI are great value and last throughout the night. The GST only has tiny dots at 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11 and no lume at all on the hands. there is absolutely no sound from the rotor on the XVI whereas the rotor of the GST is spinning nicely the GST case-back has the same 'slots' as the XVI to enable a tool to open the case; on the GST though they are razor-sharp and have given me quite some red skin after a days wear; the XVI caseback is smooth as silk the crown of the GST is really flimsy; if you unscrew it, it looks like it is going to fall off; the XVI has a shaft which looks like it can hold an atomic explosion I was quite happy with the GST though and have just sent a message to The Zigmeister to inquire the costs and timeslot for fixing and servicing it. In terms of costs it just depends on your budget I guess; if you compare it to the mk XV which can be bought for about 225USD there's a big gap in costs; but suppose you do the mod's people do to make it approach the gen (double-AR, relume hands, replace the dial by the gen, perhaps even replace the movement with a real ETA 2892-A2) you're budget is also approaching the 1000USD; Personally I feel I was quite lucky with my deal; I've been looking at official dealers for over a year (in the NL's, but also in Miami recently) and had bad luck as they were out-of-stock for some time. Last Friday I decided to browse to www.chrono24.com and found a deal for only 1750EUR. Retail value for this watch is 2850EUR, so it's a great deal in my opinion! The dealer is an supplier for jewelry stores and had this one in return for some funds outstanding on a bankrupt jeweler in Germany. But I've got the official box and papers and the warranty card is stamped at april'08 so still almost 2 years of warranty. Hopefully I won't need it until I send it off for servicing in Schaffhausen or a Richemont servicing center after a year of 3 to 4. I totally agree to those who state I could have had 4 or even more great IWC's for that kind of money, but as this thread allready demonstrates it was the XVI I was after for quite some time now and this is my way to enjoy it! Hope more people can afford this big step or hopefully the collectors will take this case as an example they really need to start working on the XVI project!
  14. diving-bezels are supposed to turn only into one direction (counter-clockwise). They are used to log your start-time for your dive. After you've set it to the start of your dive, you can keep track of the number of minutes of your dive by reading the big minute hand to the markers on the dive-bezel. Thus it's extremely importent to ensure the bezel will NOT turn with time, which might give you the wrong information that you have only dived a couple of minutes when actually you've been down under for over half an hour or so Enjoy your watch and perhaps also some scuba-lessons? It's great to spend an hour or so with stuff like sea-turtles!
  15. Where to begin...? After 2 years of waiting for our collectors to come up with a decent rep of the mk XVI I couldn't help myself any longer... Last thursday the small hour hand of the IWC GST Chrono SS fell of, so I decided it was time to go to the next level and spoil myself... it took just 1 hour to source a brand-new, unworn mk XVI through www.chrono24.com. But enough said; enjoy these pics which have been shot at sundown, so hope to get more decent pic's once the light is better tomorrow.... And of course the proud owner's wrist shots!
  16. Could not help myself after 2 years of begging our dealers for an IWC mk XVI rep.... Bougth my first GEN today! You like it? Be patient for a couple of minutes and read the full (16page!) post on the mk XVI at http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...mp;#entry482090
  17. Ok; I was thinking the same thing.... of to the dealer now and go for the GEN...
  18. whoopsss.... what's this? http://www.wholesale-watches.org/wristwatch-2943.html is somebody actually delivering a mk XVI ?
  19. Now I've had enough waiting for 2 years.... GRRRRR.... I've pulled the trigger and made an appointment to get a GEN one tommorrow! Please protect me from hurting myself aftewards and tell me there's still no rep out yet! Once it's on my wrist I'll definately post pic's. please be patient!
  20. ooow jaaa.... als je wilt inventariseren wie wanneer kan, check dan eens www.datumprikker.nl errug makkelijk ;-) alleen moet je wel de emailadressen van iedereen hebben :-(
  21. count me in as well! please bear in mind end of july till early august the majority of the dutchmen are on summerholidays, so perhaps end of august is a better date to attract large crowds!
  22. I'm just back from the US and went looking for a XVI now the euro is strong.... but in Miami apparantly 38mm is just to little as all watches are either 44mm+, platinum or a limited edition :-( When will the dealers finally understand there is a big market for this watch?
  23. same here.... I'm just back from a short weekendbreak in Miami and have been wearing the Top Gun Chrono (not the double chrono) at the local dealer. It looks stunning! Other major flaw is that the gen case bears a topgun engraving on the left side (just below the second pusher on the picture). Haven't seen this one on the reps yet... Furthermore I was tempted on pulling the trigger on a gen mk xvi, but apparantly the gen dealers have the same issue as our collectors... not in stock :-( Guess I need to get back soon ;-)
  24. too bad.... this is the answer I received from Angel & Jay :-( -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 2 Apr 2008 23:42:26 +0800 From: silixprime@gmail.com To: xxx@hotmail.com Subject: Re: mk xvi Not much, still waiting. :-(
