  1. They do have a surprising number of those available. As I said a guy who lives not far from here has a large collection of these. He now buys thru one of my small dealers since I showed him he was paying far too much on that site.

Why do they make all of these? Beacuse in places like Aisa and Africa you have entire rep ADs selling this stuff that look exactly like a Seiko/Casio/Lorus etc dealer only cheaper. I have seen little shops in places like Cairo with hundreds of different models of rep quartz watches on display. Most of these are no more than thirty bucks and mostly much less thru places like that. They buy the things by the container load. We pay a "rich westener" premium on most things out of China. The same items are much cheaper in poorer countries.

    Fakey:

This is a $300 watch in gen form. Why would you want a rep of it?

WRONG! If you can get me a SLQ017 for 300 bucks I'l take a dozen. There were only 1500 made and it retailed for $3500. If you're lucky you can pick one up for a couple of grand. They rep these things 'cause they are rare and/or expensive, just like the stuff we buy. Even if it's 300 bucks new if you can't get one any more a rep may be all you can find. People DO collect quartz you know. I have seen the rep of this 'un and its not too bad alltho it does not have the gen's display back. Besides, not everyone has three bills to spend on a watch and a rep is still a third of the gen price at least.

  2. Try emailing a dealer with pics. Hont can get nearly anything and will try to find it.. Find hont HERE .

If you have no luck PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Guys, they do rep nearly every Seiko made! Amazing but tru. Have a look HERE. DO NOT BUY THERE as they are expensive but you do get a rep Seiko. I have a mate who buys these things. There are thousands of them plus Timex, Lorus, Swiss Army even the LL Bean.

  3. Having Bob as a partner would be like being in a train wreck in slow motion, not like watching one.

Too true Robbie my friend. Too true. Not a pretty train wreck either. Even as train wrecks go. It must have been hell while it lasted. Her Borel is a brave man. Bob prob did not take the split kindly either. I doubt they still do lunch.

and I could just call Ofrei,

You could, but I wouldn't. More likely to just get yelled at. If you want something from otto FFS get the part code first! Otto, as folk here know has been knowen to send an invoice for wasting his time! He is the TTK of the gen world. Only difference is that TTK is usualy polite and helpfull at least untill you pay. :)

  4. Watcheden = Rolex2U = tonySKF on CQout = long time dealer. Tony has been around for ages and usualy gives good service and great prices. Comunication is usualy very good. Of the recomended deaslers here he can't be beat for the cheapies.

Hint for noobs: Don't order direct off the website. Email first and ask a few questions. Make shure he knows you're from the forum. With the cheapies ask if it is the same case as the ETA version. An example of this is the Millgauss he has with a 21J for 108USD. this is exactly the same watch as the much more expensive ETA version and a bargin. Some cheapie stuff however is nowhere as good a rep as the more expensive version.

  5. Hey, a brother fire fighter! 12 years of Rural/Auxillery service this end.

When Omega brought out the Seamaster Planet Ocean, they gave it a completely new bracelet to compliment the new watch - why the hell didn't Rolex do the same with the Deep Sea??? angry.gif

Because they got lazey and/or cut the budget. Lord only knows how much a new bracelet design would have cost to implement. Money that could be better spent (acording to Rolex) on an advertising blitz.

  6. Robby beat me to it. Tintin: If you consider the DSSD or even the humble sub a "defining watch" for Rolex you are very mistaken my friend. As robbie says Rolex exists to flog large quanities of DDs and the like to to folk who can drop 14 to 60 grand on a watch.

The Sub/SDs are an icon yes,but not a defining one. The SD itself was basicly a one off project for Comex that took on a life of it's own. They exist simply to support the lower end of the range and supply a ready stream of folk who will buy that overpriced lump of gold when they get older. The GMT gives these people something to wear to work (out of the office, of cause :) ) and the Daytona somthing to play in but basicly they are all life support and feeders for the DDs and DJs which are what Rolex are realy all about. How many dials are there for the DD Robbie? Hundreds of them.

    Robbie:

we don't need another IWC or Panerai - and we don't need a "new" Rolex...

Yep, it reminds me of Porsche stuffing with the 911. It works, people buy as many as you make so why change it?

Narikaa: nice mate, now all you need is a gen bezel + insert, date wheel, crystal, crown and a CG shave! :)

  7. Nice pics but I still don't like the watch. Love the clasp but that's about all. Seems the traditional Rolex crowd don't like this 'un as much as those who have never been Rolex fans. To me that says they have got something wrong. The watch is not appealing to their client base rather to someone elses.

I beleive the design of the DSSD reflects it's purpose ... Go DEEP cool.gif

Yep, you may just be correct there. The problem is, however, these are never used for their intended purpose. Not nowdays anyway. No one actualy uses a dive watch as a tool. That's what dive computers are for. The bezel on a Rolex (like most "dive" watches) doesn't even meet the international standerd for a dive watch. Face it, few if any of these are ever going to "go deep"

  8. The price/performance one I have found is this one.

    What do you think?

Yep, same as my household one. Quite good enough for bracelets etc. Everything the add says is true.

For the workshop I have one of these in the 8ltr size.

Cleans anything off anything. Great for cleaning carbies, injectors, thru hull transducers, anything realy. You don't shove your hand in there when it's on, that's for shure!

Every home should have a US cleaner of some type. They realy are that handy. You will just keep on finding uses appart from watches. Just don't submerge your watch in it and switch on. You will learn the true meaning of "water resistant" :)

  9. Never known Ken to make a threat in all the time I'v been here. Ken just isn't the nasty type. 'sides, he's an Aussie and Aussis don't make threats. Promises maybe, threats no. Anyway, no one mentioned doing stuff "to you" more like about you my friend. I don't think your exactly gaining much sympathy the way you're going either.

What's the responce to his rant at RG? Only major watch forum I don't have an account at.

    Col.

  10. Regardless of how you want to view this the fact is that there is a member out there who offers mod work via PM and is not keen on fixing his stuff ups.

I believe the Admin teams of each board should be told who this member is.

    Ken

    +1

I also do not like the idea this guy may be floating arround. Hopefully he may have learned his lesson by now but you can never tell.

The mear fact that Flav says "it doesn't matter who it was" Is neither here nor there since we ain't at RG. I would be takeing much the same line if this were posted at RWG1.1. As a rule we don't demand anything from anyone but for this I would be makeing an exception.

    Regards,

    Col.
