  1. It may just be me, or the lighting, but the back end of the seconds hand looks black when it should not be.

Go here for a good pic:

    http://www.time2watch.net/SeamasterGMTreview.htm

Don't forget to AR coat your crystal before putting it on - I know finepics does that in the UK but it's a little far for you I would think.

I'd be interested to know how much you would have spent on this in total. I think a 2nd hand genuine (good condition) would set you back around US$1100-1200 nowadays. But then you wouldn't have learned what you have in the meantime!

yep, its the lighting! the back of the seconds hand is not black.

Last project in terms of using genuine movements. Just couldnt resist when this movement became available for sale, I only picked it up for $210AUD and it was working very well, just need a 24hour hour wheel. Hands cost me altogether $60AUD and the replica case and dial cost me $90 AUD. 24 Hour wheel cost me $5AUD and bezel insert cost me $30AUD.

    So overall,

    210 + 60 + 90 + 30 + 5= $395AUD roughly.

Hopefully i can complete project by end of the week.

  2. ok, my other project.

Genuine dial and hands, I had to relum the dial as the indices were like black and had no glow at all. I'm happy to just use normal luminova, not skilled enough with the superlum haha.

Again, Picked up a damaged Omega 2890 movement and got it serviced, so its running fine now.

Case and bracelet i will put around the movement and dial soon, just waiting for a crown, as the old crown was broken.

    Will update when completed.

    thanks for looking!

  3. Ok, so i've had some time to write up this quick breakdown. Bear with me ok guys.

A fun project which lasted almost 3 months long waiting for a 24hour wheel for the 1128 and other bits and pieces. Altogether i've already listed the amount of money i've spend on this but the time has been worth it as i'm able to wear this now.

Lets get to the actual procedure.

    1. Started with an Omega GMT case with white dial but wrong bezel (it was with the half black half white one)

    2. Purchased a Omega 1128, running well.

    3. Had Genuine Omega Sword hands; hr, minute, second for the 2254 version.

    4. Ordered the GMT hand

    5. Ordered Bezel insert from Silix.

    6. Purchased watch crystal

Firstly, please don't do what i did and work with a movement without being held in a movement holder. My 2 holders were in use and this movement was already in its movement spacer so it wasn't as bad. Please note.

After everything was recieved and in order i started to built it. Firstly, Started with fixing the dial on the movement, the replica dial does not align with the movement well, so i had to cut off the feet and re-arrange. The hands were painted black to look more like the genuine.

Now, i've slowly placed the hands on, making sure that I put it on at 12 o'clock midnight. So all 4 hands must all line up at 12. The picture shows it at 10:08 for visibility purposes.

The crystal that came with the rep was domed and with no anti-reflective coating and i found it very annoying and the dial looks like its been magnified slighty. So I bought a standard flat crystal and installed it on, no problems with glare and that "distorted" look when view at certain angles now. The original crown and crown tube with replaced with my old SMP crown and crown tube, also the crown guards were worked a little. Then the whole case was brushed along with the bracelet, the genuine version is full brushed FYI.

The movement is then placed into the case and held down by clamps. The seal is then greased.

The watch is now screwed shut and adjusted to see if its working well.

    Advice:

For the guys who want this model, I've seen this model from Paul and its not bad. ETA 2836 with modified GMT function 24 hour hand. The two things i would recommend to be done with that one straight out of the box is:

    1. Replace the crystal with a flat crystal as its much better looking. Cost - $10USD

    2. Brush the whole case and bracelet with fine sandpaper. Cost - $3USD

    Cost:

    $210 + $60 + $90 + $30 + $5 + $13= $408AUD roughly.

Another shot of it with the bracelet attached.

  5. Looking at getting one of the obove watches from PT. I have and Breitling chrono avenger Ti, from PT and im worried about he reliability of the asian 7750 mov. the SMP has the eta 2386 i think @ 28.800 bph?? what is in the GMT??

i realy like the look of the gmt but im worried about the life of the movment ?? any thoughts.

GMT also uses the ETA 2836-2, but its modified to accommodate the GMT function, if you read some more you will understand that some of them do have some problems and why its not really a true GMT watch.

I trust that you will do some more research, good luck!

  6. Hi Marrickvilleboy,

Excellent .. I just bought a VC Malte from Joshua. It has a Lemania Manual Working Chronograph movement .. I'm expecting it to be in very good nick but I would like to have an initial service done.

Are you able to do an initial service on that?

    Thanks

Is it an actual Lemania Movement or a Venus Copy?

How do you feel about a 2836 modified for GMT?

    And a crown replacement..

    And a ...

Jeez I can think of lots of posibilities!

Yes, 2836 Modified with GMT is no problem and crown replacement is fine too.

    :)

  7. @ By-tor

My Seiko was made in 1977, the 6309 models were discontinued in 1987, but there are similar models e.g 7S26 Divers, they look very similar to the 6309s, some of the modern divers have the crown at 3'o clock.

    @ Ubi

thats one fine collection! Not a big fan of Rolex, but wow!

  8. I think we all know that Joe isn't a robot, so he will make mistakes at times. Every watch is different and may have different flaws to them, whether Joe has picked them up initially or not is another thing.

I think its understandable if Joe does good work on 25 watches and not so good on 1 watch (25:1 ratio), but as long as he fixes up the 1 bad one (out of his own money is standard, considering he is charging quite a lot of money). But I think everyone should speak up if they are unhappy with the watch, and get Joe to do it right, it is no use if they just ignore it.

As for the watches that have been unreturned in 4-5-6 months, thats just ridiculous, there is no excuse for that, and the charges should definitely be reduced alot for that time lapse.

I personally have not dealt with Joe as i do my own mods, but reading this does alert me, but i know things like this will happen as long as we are human and there is always going to be human error, but we must reduce the number of human error and correct them when they occur.

  9. Mboy:

Just wondering, would you be able to service Asian 7750s? I guess this would be the movement most in need of servicing. :)

Yes i understand the situation with the 7750s. Unfortunately, I dont feel confident enough as of yet with the chronograph movements, So i'm afraid I would not be offering services or repairs on 7750s or Venus Moonwatch movements =(

But i'm sure i will offer servicing for this movement soon.

    ^_^

  10. thanks for all the support guys! very kind words!

In terms of price, i haven't had anything structured up and i dont think i can put myself anywhere near Rob (The Zigmeister) and Joe (RBJ) as they have alot more experience in repairs and mods. But i'm more than happy to hear what you would like me to do and see if i can do it for you! At the moment, complete overhaul with oiling will start at $60AUD (usual watchmaker charges start at $110) - includes cleaning, re-oiling and re-greasing of parts and reassemble. I'm going to stick with local work for now as its quicker for the australians here and safer in terms of customs.

Non-working watches will be inspected and parts will be replaced if needed. I will be getting parts from Smith and Smith and one other source in sydney.

As with Modifications, I'm only geared to work with Omegas at the moment, as i have played with far too many omegas so i have alot of experience in what to do and which parts needs to be done. But in terms of re-working the crown guards and oiling and polishing the bracelet, i can extend that to Rolex and Tags. Also, crystal replacing is also available as I work part time at a watchstore so i have access to pressure testing and crystal press.

Thanks again for all your welcome and i'll get some photos up soon!

    regards,

    Mboy

    ^_^
