  1. actually....the correct term is to "release the power".

How to release the power is a little difficult to explain. Lets see if i can explain it to you all.

There are 2 main "wheels/gears" that move when you manual wind the watch, one is called the crown wheel and the other is called the ratchet wheel. The wheel that has very obvious protruding teeth is the ratchet wheel - it is also the closest to the stem.

if you look carefully at the ratchet wheel, you will see there is a component that we watchmakers call "click", the purpose of it is to hold the ratchet wheel and not let it slip - so when you wind the watch up it doesn't just release by itself.

Now, if you wind your watch via the crown you will see the ratchet wheel moves anti-clockwise, you will also notice that the "click" will engage then disengage, then engage then disengage, so on, so on as you keep winding. The key to the release of the power is to disengage the click from the ratchet wheel using a small pin/tooth pick and let the power run down by itself.

    Hope this helps.

  2. hmmm trusty has take that one off now.

Soem of the dealers had a couple of XXL railmasters on sale- but due to having asian movements the subsecond had to be moved up closer to the center.

Some of the rep XXL had the "6" in full - and some had no "6" at all.

Maybe this one has been re-dialled? very strange indeed.

  3. If it was vintage it would no be a co-axial works though!, that type of escarpment has only been in production the last few years, that there fore rules out the vintage years.

    woah...i missed that!

I saw a very similar old vintage Railmaster with subseconds just like that one - but without the co-axial wording as we all know that co-axial is new technology.

[censored]....intriguing indeed - actually - [censored] i think we are looking at a REPLICA DIAL - the rep OMEGA RAILMASTER XXL has the subseconds higher than the Genuine - have a look at trusty's website for his version - very similar yeah? you be the judge.

  4. Looks very nice!

Is that an automatic movement?? Haven't heard of that one and the subdial spacing is quite different from autos I've seen.

its an ETA Quartz movement - same as the one they put in the TAG HEUER Quartz Chronograph. This is how it works:

the subdials run like this: 10 o'clock subdial counts hours; 2 o'clock subdial counts 1/10 of a second: 6 o'clock subdial is a running seconds.

the center hands run like this: hour hand per usual; minute hand per usual; primary center seconds hand counts seconds when stopwatch is in use; secondary center minute hand counts minutes when stopwatch is in use.

Altogther the watch has 7 hands. Hope this clears it up =)

  5. Ok...so I had a chance to purchase some old TAG Heuer parts and I thought i would put together a nice watch, here's the result.

I picked up a Used case with dial, since being a watchmaker, I'm able to pick up parts cheaper, so i bought genuine Hour + Minute hands and also bought a ETA 251.262 movement which came with subseconds hands and 2 split timing hands (seconds and minutes)

So I put it all together and ordered a Rep bracelet to go with the case, the rep bracelet is from SILIX (thanks) it doesnt actually fit that well but i will get them to fit better when i have time to do them up.

    What do you guys think?
