c'mon marrickville boy...
"let mama-kenberg handle it" ???
How about: Let mama's-boy-marrickville read the post again.
See? I didn't mean that either, but it still sounds a little disrespectful.
Then again, maybe ken doesn't take it that way either, another ozzie and all... but then, so is offshore innt he? I'm so confused by all these overly sensitive fellas.
Oi! Do you just call me a Yobo!?!

@ Cwai02 and @ Leit
I understand that it may be weak, but at least you can read the dial when the watch is on an angle, you can't even see the dial when you look at watches with domed crystals without AR coating. Maybe you can find a watch in your collection which will show this. I've tried to capture the issue with my pictures and I hope you can see where i'm coming from.

REALLY?
Without AR coating
With AR coating
I think we'll let the pictures do the talking, I won't pull out the books for this argument.
Enough said.
AR doesn't have squat to do with distortion, but it has everything to do with contrast. Lack of AR doesn't 'distort' the dial - that is related to crystal geometry.A dial will always look 'distorted' through a domed crystal even with heavy AR.

I suggest you read forum rule #4- " respect the moderator"
You are treading on thin ice here, your warn level is now upped over this and other comments, and you're close to some "Time Out"
Offshore
??
i didnt see any dis-respect there Offshore.....

No. None of my Rolexes are AR coated and there is no distortion of the dial looking at an angle through the flat surfaced portions of the crystal.
I'm at Tikerz's house this evening - there's no AR on his 4th version PO. I know AR - this is not AR. The 'blue' that everyone is wanting to see is not AR - that is separation of light passing through lightly curved crystal, particularly when point light sources are reflected at an angle off the crystal face. The bluish hue that is characteristic of AR should be uniform at an angle across the crystal face - not just as a halo around point light reflections.
thats because the rolexes have FLAT crystals. Flat crystals dont have any distortion issues.
The Omegas have domed crystals, so thats why we have this AR coating issues. As far as I know, only the Omega SMP blue and Constellation has AR coating on their crystals, i'm not sure about the P.O.
-
you can tell if there is AR coating when you look at the dial at angles and still be able to see the dial clearly, the crystals with no AR coating will distort the dial badly.

just get him what every kid at 11 years old gets:
CASIO!
He'll learn to appreciate the art of watchery, and upgrade as he gets older, don't make him skip steps!

I just got an email from Paul saying that the W-2008 does not have AR coating on the crystal anymore, its just a standard Sapphire crystal now.
Anyone else able to confirm this? Because on his website, it states clearly that it does have AR coating. I've written back to him asking him about this.
EDIT: THERE IS AR COATING
-
that looks terribly good!
may i ask where the original watch was from?
-
@ Space,
The Handwind Moonwatch has running seconds at 9 o'clock. The Automatic Moonwatch has running seconds at 3 o'clock.
-
just go to your nearest watchmaker and ask to have the crystal replaced.
If you are scared of them seeing reps, and if you are able to, remove the movement from the case, and just get them to replace the crystal for you.
-
your Omega GMT would have an ETA 2836. The ETA 2824 can't be modified to house an extra "4th" hand function.
Nice collection btw, deville is nice!

I usually use 2 ingredients:
1. toothpaste
2. Polywatch
If the scratch is deep, I usually use fine sandpaper to grit it out then use toothpaste (white paste, not gel) and polywatch to top it off.
You can get polywatch from ebay.

@ 2005submariner
U know what buddy...i just saw a replica of it on ioffer
It looks orite, just non-working chronograph.
-
definitely problems with the setting and winding mechanism, if you don't get it repaired then you will risk damaging the gears which will mean $$$
At the moment, if everything is running, it may just need lubricating and re-adjusting of the components so better soon than later.
-
well if you didnt bat an eyelid when saying 'yes' to their $2000 repair charge, another $2000 should just be loose change for you....dont fret...
=S

@ TTK
learn to show people on this board some more manners, I knew what you meant when you wrote this topic, but you didn't have to talk to cwai like that.
lucky you're a dealer here, otherwise everyone else would tell you what they really think of you..
go on..flame me...thats all you do on this board...

@offshore
yeah, 4 jewels in the oscillator, 2 jewels on the pallet + 2 jewels for the pallet fork makes it already 8. So it must be 17 jewels, there is a spelling mistake on the rotor of this watch.
Hope this clears this issue up.
-
I have to admit, I have never seen an automatic with 7 jewels before. I'm thinking there must be a spelling mistake and its actually 17 jewels.
7 jewels would mean that the watch would be lacking a jewelled gear train - and that wouldn't function properly for an automatic.

Eat me now
Ken
something you say to Mrs Kenberg? hahahaha
-
they are different in quality.
The bezel and dial looks different to start off with. I would choose carefully which one you want because they are two different 007s
-
very very good!
and its the same for smaller leather bands as well i'm assuming, just use thinner leather?
-
mboy - will the real GMT hand on the 300m GMT fit on a 2893?
Not sure about that actually.
The genuine OMEGA GMT hand fits onto the 24hour hour wheel of the Omega modified 2892. I'm thinking perhaps they may be slightly different. Better to just buy the replica Omega GMT as its pretty good, you wouldn't be disappointed.

GOLD!
will try that one, one day....
