  1. now why would a chrono movement make more sense in a watch that doesnt act as a chrono?

It's because it has the seconds dial at the 9 o'clock position. An ETA 2836 has the regular standard second hand that everyone is used to in the middle.

The question is, what is the difference between the 21j Asian automatics (eg. Arktos around USD140) and these Asian 7750 copy based watches which we are seeing for over double that price.

The reliability of the Asian 7750 copy in this instance should be fine, as The Zigmeister did his breakdown and there was no problem with normal timekeeping - only the chrono functions in the original 7750 copy had problems.

These particular submersibles don't have a chrono function, so in theory the Asian 7750 copy should be pretty solid here.

  2. There will always be some willing to spend whatever for the perfect rep. I like gold and would spend more for a really good gold rep that would wear and last. If you spend 10K on an original $500 seems pretty inexpensive.

Solid gold rep would be a lot more than $500. Just with a two-tone solid gold mid-link (hollow) is not *that* far behind that price... maybe a ladies model.

I remember there was someone (Josh,TTK, River?) who had a solid gold R*l*x rep and that was going for $1000 - $2000 so you may want to look around, possibly ask those three listed to see if they can get one for you.

  3. For the time being they are going to focus on items that if they weren't counterfeited, people would buy the originals. This is cd's, dvd's computer games, software etc... If the counterfeits could be stopped people would buy these so it is easy to calculate the losses. For something like watches it is much more difficult. Pretty much everyone on this forum has bought a replica watch, the original of which is worth more than $5k. However, if the replica hadn't been around, how many would have bought the gen? No idea. I'm not suggesting that people here can't afford gens, I know they can, I'm suggesting that the rep market doesn't really eat away at the gen market share or revenue.

Brand new, no... and Panerais are mostly overpriced for what they are. A Rolex I cannot afford. A used Omega or Breitling, possibly and I would get certain models that are not replicated easily or well.

  4. Man, where did they find this writer? his knowledge of genuine watches is very poor."any watch that sweeps, is more than likely a genuine". not his exact words, but that's what he was saying.......how naive. I guess that is why he is writing for askmen.com, and not some watch magazine. can't say I can expect too much out of that guy.....

Anyone know how I can get hold of him and sell him a watch that says Rolex on the dial, and a second hand that sweeps ? :Jumpy:

  5. he threatened legal action againt people posting or selling replicas on his webforum. he sent legal notices to people who post on his site and rep forums stating this. his reasons for doing so are posted on trc.

many people who received the warning took it personaly.

Hmmm I can see why he wouldnt want reps on a site associated with genuines (see that thread listed at the start of this topic). Maybe he was a little heavy handed with the legal notices.

  6. Getting back to your point about particular models however I think we can find a way

in which we can all order individually, our own model choice and still save..

Sounds like you went through a lot to get silix here, and for that I am sure there are many who are grateful.

Now this last point is interesting... need a how to :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Usually the best way is shopping around. There seems to be price differences from dealer to dealer.

I know some stay loyal to one dealer, but what if that dealer doesn't have the particular watch that you want?

  7. Just another question: The mid links of the straps and the crowns are solid 14k gold. Okay. But what's about the mid part of the end links and also the mid part of the clasp? Which quality of 'gold' is it? I guess it is just plated?

    Interesting question.

It's plated on those parts of a MBW Submariner.

  8. It's also such hypocrisy to build a hommage watch (as someone over there is doing without any screams and shouts from the others) - which is essentially the same thing as our reps - a fake!!!

Agreed, but their argument would be that there is no Panerai name on the watch, and it does not fund "terrorism, organised crime" etc.

  9. could someone shed some light on *what elliot did*?

From what I understand, he put down rep collectors and did not want to sell straps to any rep collector. He laso said he would forward any details (names/addresses) to Richemont or the police.

It seems like he's changed his mind now, or is trying to collect more names and addresses to pass on, while making some money perhaps?

And I assume Elazarus is Elliot ?

  10. So true,.. however the lowest price I have found is much less than $700, unless of course you are paying

for high risk customs guarantees, or are placing higher value on some area of panerism that eludes me,..

though as far as I know, all 7753 196s are the same, past the differences in cases from old to new..?? :(

Where did you find it a lot cheaper?

All the dealers I made enquiries to were quoting around the 700 mark, one was slightly more, one was slightly less.

  11. By-Tor has links from his write-up on his GMT-Master II which shows how to clean and polish the bracelet.

As for whether it's the correct insert, I'm not sure any more. Since I decided against a GMT-Master until there is a reliably independent hour hand change, I have been out of the loop on that one.

    Good luck! :yu:

  12.

    Yes Chronus, I know; I own a 7753 196.

My point (in reference to the comment I was responding to) was that even if it were $500.00, it would be worth it to have the 7753. Vlaletom seemed to be indicating that the extra money was not justified.

Hopefully my 7753 based PAM196 is in transit :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I think with something like the PAMs, they are different in that you can get an almost exact watch to the genuine, with the exact same movement. Most reps of the likes of R*l*x cannot, as no one has replicated the modern day R*l*x movement. Similarly with some genuines like the Zenith El Primero, Patek Phillipes etc.

With these ones they can look as accurate on the outside but not on the inside.

With the ETA Panerai reps, you are essentially getting the same watch (if the rep is any good), minus things like bridgework/engraving/decoration and water resistance and luminosity. Considering the price of the genuine watch, it's not a bad deal getting a PAM196 with ETA 7753 for $700 and then a re-lume job done, and possible water-resistance testing done/case-back tightening.

I would say these Panerai reps are much greater value-for-money in some ways than many other reps which superficially re-create the original watch.

  13. Send them on in - just got new stocks of lume so plenty to go round!!

Waiting for delivery via the silix bulk buy...

You know I gotta spend a few days at least wearing them though, and then in for the lume job :thumbsupsmileyanim:

The GMTs may need one of your cyclops jobs, so let me know when you will be ordering these. Probably a good idea to get a spare on for future use too.

If you are still doing AR coating let me know as well!

Looks like enough PAM fans around here getting some real tangible mods done.

I've never really been bothered by R*l*x crown guards size being very slightly off, but an AR coat or better maginification cyclops is visually obvious. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  14. Personally, I feel solid gold is too much for a rep.

Kind of like putting $4000 worth of accessories on a $2000 car.

TuTone 14k however for an ETA accurate piece can add the right touch of class...

I agree, two tone looks much classier... with a couple of dealers selling solid gold in some of their rep two tone watches, it's definitely worth a look.

I find a full gold watch looks too gaudy for my tastes, and I'm in my 20s.

Maybe after 50 years service :whistling:
