  1. I think this depends what AD you are in, I have heard some stories turn nasty! Wearig a rep Breitling or Omega into an AD would probably not ring any bells, unless closely inspected, but wearing a Patek or Audemars rep into the relevant AD would be like showing up to a Ferrari dealership in a bodykitted Toyota Mr2, claiming it was real!!

It is an illegal hobby, and whilst they may have no powers of confiscation, it is the effects in the wider sense that would have more repercussions for us -such as advertising the fact that communities such as ours exist.

  2. Couldn't fit me in your suitcase could you V? :)

I am flexible with the date, I will be there from June - August, but Late July through to August would be better for me. Let's see what interest we get, and then we can get some details together....

  3. I am going to be locating to the midlands (Derbyshire) for the summer. I was wondering if there are many members who would like to have a GTG in July time around this area? I know of a few members who live near to here, so if you're intereted lets try and organise something? If there is much interest form London based members,, we could meet in the middle somwhere?

    I had in mind a weekend in late July....maybe 19th, or 26th...

  4. Trading patterns between all EU countries are of an equal status (or they should be) as this is defined by EU Community law. Yes the EU was originally set up to conquer the economic short fall after the war, however, it has very much changed from being primarily an economic community - which was created under the Treaty of Paris, and expanded on by the Treaty of Rome.

The EU has changed from this economic model to one of fairness and equality for its members. The Single European Act and the Treaty of Amsterdam saw a move from an economic basis to the equal treatment of its citizens regardless of race, gender, religion etc... So although the EU's original objectve was theaim to create stability and strengthening the economies of the member countries, it is as much about equality and social objectives as it is monetary.

Therefore the only reason someone would want to see the exact country of origin would be due to having to ship an item the member x who reside in country y within the EU - because all tariffs and customs should be of equal status between EU countries.

I hope this helps remove the coldness of the EU's basis :)

  5. I am well aware that the dealers may be unaware of non ETA movement being substituted due to ETA availability issues. However, they are now aware of it and should make the manufacturers aware of it. I personally like the movement in this particular watch as it seems to look closer to what is under the hood of a genuine Planet Ocean. But, It is still Asian and has nowhere near the value of the ETA version. If there is indeed an ETA shortage, bump the price on the ETAs and offer these Asian versions for $150. Do not try and scam us by substitution. As this is a first time occurrence I'll let it slide as the dealer may not have known, but it better not happen again or the thread will be a lot less pleasant!

    Amen

  6. I disagree completely. Ralph Lauren built his clothing business (more of an empire) on a lifestyle -- The Ralph Lauren Lifestyle, which epitomizes traditional luxury. And Lauren has always been associated with Rolex, Mercedes & similarly traditional luxury brands. Fitting a Swatch or Seiko, although both are quality brands, to 1 of his mannequin's wrists would not promote the image that RL is trying to infer.

I concur, this is all relevant. To the normal person, associating Rolex with Ralph Lauren is all part of differentiating said clothes from brand x. If someone see's Ralh Lauren clothes as being associtaed with a brand like Rolex, then that would create a much different perception than if it were a Rotary on the wrist.
