  1. A few pics of both: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tre...19975&rid=0
  2. I was looking at that Silix watch recently. It looks good but I wonder about the lug holes that seem to be pushing the case edges a tad too far. It may be a bear to drill to 2.1mm? A project that I have had in mind for some time is the 16700. The base watch would be the lug hole case the MBW 16710. I have the OEM dial, insert. crown/tube & more correct GMT hand but the date wheel remains an issue. The movement would be the 2893-2 which unfortunately, I don't believe the DW is interchangeable with one from the 2836-2. Nothing like having projects in the fire.
  3. I believe Saabin is a member. Last I saw him post here was selling a few old school Tropic 127s. Other than this, I haven't heard much from him. He could certainly build some vintage beauties. His RR SD was also one nice piece of work. Added: Joe did a fine job on your dial. I had to look at it twice.
  4. An old Paul 1675 case, that's something I haven't heard mentioned in a very long time. I believe it remains the best rep case ever produced for the 1675. That explains a few things. Perhaps you remember the 1675 Saabin built many moons ago (@ the original RWG) using the same case. It was also a stunner! Sorry to hear about the dial. The gen 1675 matte dials are starting to get very expensive. You fooled me on the bezel. I thought you had somehow shoehorned a gen on the case.
  5. I think "seriously modded" is an understatement considering you probably started with something along these lines: If I recall, the MBW/WM 1675 case was considerably thicker. Did you machine it to a more correct profile? Beautiful work! Enjoy!
  6. Awesome, XRT! I didn't think that was an MBW dial. When UncleJay is done, I'd like to take photos of this beauty as well.
  7. Big Tudor fan here as well. I'm just sorry I didn't buy every Sub I could get my hands on 2-3 years a go. The military reps were offered by Watchmaster/Kenzo in very limited quantities a year or two back. Haven't seen any others offered at down to earth prices. My small collection & would like to add a 40mm blue Sub down the road.
  8. Glad to be of help. The T-19 also looks darn good on the 1680. Nice change of pace from the cyclops.
  9. Perfecto for the 5513. BTW, the gen crystal looks terrific on these frankens.
  10. Laz, I would be glad to. It may take a couple of days to get her to pose with some daylight. We normally don't have much time together during the day, except weekends. Cheers, J
  11. Freddy, it is a bit small but it is so darn well built and finished that it's a very enjoyable little watch. It be great if I could find the full sized equivalent but the cost would be a few multiples of this one. Thanks, Stephane! She loves it and is wearing it as we speak. I think your old SD may be taking a bit of a vacation.
  12. I'm a big fan of the blue dial Tudor subs and stumbled cross this little guy at a very reasonable $. It's in NOS condition complete with the original folded oyster bracelet. Very impressed with the quality & feel of the little Tudor. It's a stunner with the blue dial & matching insert. It's on the small side at 32mm X 40mm but has a thick case with a rather tall acrylic crystal. It would be fine for small wrists and looks terrific on a lady. A few pics I took in a hurry. Hope you enjoy. Compared to its full sized relative: Cheers!
  13. Just a thought, but perhaps you could have the end links re-plated which shouldn't be expensive. It would probably result in the best quality outside of replacing with the gen, which should fit the old TW case. I can't suggest anyone specifically that does this type of work but perhaps someone could chime in. A search in a gen forum may also point you in the right direction. I've read of folks that have had their cases (mostly vintage) gold plated with good results. Nice watch you have there. Best of luck!
  14. I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend, Sql. I've been there as well and understand what you are feeling. All the best, J My little buddy.
  15. Unfortunately, the hand outs don't stop there. A proposed tax rebate (scam) targeted solely at the large home builders has an approximate price tag of $12 billion. The mom & pop independent builders are mysteriously excluded. There is an additional proposal moving through the House of Representatives to bail out home owners through the FHA. The estimated price tag is $400 billion. Add all these up and we're starting to talk about some serious change, $562 billion by my calculation. Of course, they will be funded with an addition to the national debt which is quickly approaching $10 trillion. On a positive note, looking forward to your franken post.
  16. I think your deep feelings on the SSD would be censored if posted on the forum. Anytime time want to trade, let me know. I'll even throw in a couple of Pam 2893-2 GMTs.
  17. Congrats, Stephane! That is one amazing watch and perhaps the only clone that I regret not picking up in the good old days when it was available. Those were the true super reps, IMO. I never thought Kruz would part with this watch. I've seen it in the flesh and it is a stunner. Glad to see you're enjoying the new toy.
  18. As with w.genzo, I thought it may be gen crystal but wasn't sure it would be a direct fit on the TW case. I have the same watch with the 2893-2 & the crystal has the over sized cyclops. Your's looks 1000% more accurate. Nice date wheel as well. Where you able to fit a gen crystal without any problems? Congrats on the terrific work and one awesome GMT!
  19. Sorry to hear about your house. The housing market is a mess and this is starting to hit NYC is a big way as we speak.. The price range I'm quoting is from reputable secondary dealers such Bernardwatch & Watchseller. These folks do not negotiate & the the watches do sell. I've not seen a mint & complete SS Daytona in the secondary market for under $10K. Here is one offered for $12K, not an AD: http://bernardwatch.com/Rolex/Daytona-Chronograph/RLX3620
  20. If it's your dream watch and it's not a stretch on the ol' budget, I'd say go gor it. Should you decide to sell it down the road, I doubt you'll have problems recovering your investment. Serious economic downturns aside, I see SS Daytonas in the secondary market in the range of $11K-$12.5K. There is also a lot of piece of mind in making such a sizeable purchase form an AD and with all paper work in your name.
  21. Do you have a photo of this watch? Curious minds would like to know what exactly is a "limited edition bond sub". Omega perhaps? It's probably not too much if it's the Seamaster 007 LTD edition from the old factory which closed 3 years or so ago. Otherwise, it's too rich for my blood.
  22. perry, I think it would be easiest to swap movement/dail/hands as a complete unit on the cases. I would suggest the RR only because the "single red" SD is a such a rare watch. I think there are only around 400 in existence & they are worth a princely sum.
  23. Yeeeez, I like the rep better than this new super deep SD. I think it's a mistake for rlx to move away from the slim cases of old. The new sports models are getting so far removed from original timeless designs that they are losing their resemblance to the rlx brand. At a thickness of 18mm, the new SD should make a Pam feel like a toy in comparison. J, terrific 1675. I agree that these vintage beauties will continue to escalate in value.
  24. Thanks for the link, JT! That is one excellent comparison of the two movements. The detail of poster Bob photos remind me of those of The Zigmeister in his tutorials. The good news is that the ST seems to be a quality movement and something we'll see a lot more of as ETA availability continues to dwindle. Overall, the ETA does seem better finished to me.
