  1. I have the watch you speak of. I took "before" Chief photos, but have not gotten around to after photos.

It was a breeze to pop it out and replace it. I have had it side by side with Gen, and I swear more people would think Cheifs is gen. My wife does have a GEN SOH 38. I can side by side that too.

Give me a day or two. (Bump) if you don't see them.

  2. A quick word about PP disputes:

They should only be used for: a.) non-receipt of goods purchased, b.) significantly mis-represented items.

Seriously-- if the watch looks like what was in the photo, and keeps some semblance of time, the buyer really does not have grounds to dispute it via PP. I can not even begin to tell you the number of transactions that I have conducted that did not satisfy me, but in the end, I received the watch and I did not ask enough questions.

Final though, PP is not stupid, and if investigated deeper can link many of us together. Imagine bringing down the house of cards over a $135 trinket. Something like this not only threatens the buyers account, but your account, and possibly others... Just sayin'...

  3. I am curious, is this sort of thing legal/in line with eBay TOS, and what kind of precedent does this set?

I applaud the seller for being straight forward and honest about the mash-up of parts, but still wonder. Technically, if it contains 100% genuine parts I don't think Rolex or anyone really has a say in the matter. Not unlike, dropping an modern Porsche engine into a vintage model, etc.

    Here is the link:

    FTA:

    Rolex GMT Explorer Hybrid

Genuine Matte Dial with Beautiful Toned Luminous

Vintage Look with Durability of Modern Rolex

    Item Description

This is an interesting compilation of genuine Rolex parts. Case:16570 in excellent condition. Dial: Genuine GMT Matte Dial - great indexes

Movement: (GMT/Explorer) Rolex Caliber 3185 (quickset date and quickset GMT). Offered on the used shell-cordovan strap with steel buckle.

    ----------------

    Thoughts?

I guess I am fine with it since the seller is forthcoming. Same way I am ok with some of the "Re-Dialer's, etc" Might also be a way to harvest parts at a cheaper rate since many true Rolex guys will probably avoid it like the plague.

  4. Vintage Models: Bracelet quality (I love the looks, but to be honest Rolex bracelets have been a weak spot, prone to stretching, etc)

Current/New Models: Price, Fat Lugs, Maxi-Dials (proportions in general), bling factor. Putting "Gas Escape..." on the front of the DSSD.

Rolex as a company: RSC policies regarding service. Lack of vintage support. Failure to recognize classic models and do modern re-releases. (Although recent Tudor releases might change this)

  5. Ok, I just had a look at some of my "rep" bracelets of this design, riveted.

    Two possibilities.

1.) This is just a very poor quality rep bracelet, or has the wrong clasp. If this is the case you are screwed unless you want to bend and file etc. (Lets hope this is not the case.)

2.) After looking at the few of these I have, mine all taper down as you get closer to the clasp. IF YOU REMOVE A LINK - YOU MUST REMOVE LINKS FARTHEST FROM THE CLASP. The WIDER links.

So the million dollar question is: Have you or someone removed a link? If Yes, did you remove the link closest to the clasp or farthest from it?

Does this make sense? Make sure you maintain the SMALLER/THINER tapered link nearest the clasp.

If by some chance the narrower link you need is missing, you might be able to "flip-flop" with a narrower link from the other side of the bracelet.

    HTH,

  6. 1603. i need to learn more about this watch. And this strap.

Thanks for the kind words all.

@Cubeistan here is a shot of the strap:

Story on the watch is, it is a 1974 1603 with "hacking" 1575 movement. Bought it with intent to use the movement in either my 1680/1665 project. After having the movement serviced at the AD, it is keeping COSC time-- and JoJo managed to convinvce me not to part it out.

  7. I think this is great actually. I don't think they are selling out at all. If anything they are keeping their legacy alive. Embracing new media like this is not a bad thing. As Geddy mentions, the Guitar Hero / Rock Band franchise is a great launching pad for discovering new music.

I also think Rush is not getting any younger, and royalties, etc, from these type of things are a way to help fund their later years. :)

Although, I have been a "real" musician in the past (Bass, Keys, some drums, some guitar), these "Rhythm Games" are still fun to play. Some musicians thumb their nose at them, but fun is fun. I have the entire Moving Pictures DLC on Rock Band and drumming along to the songs pretending to be the great Neal Peart is a blast. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Finally, these rhythm games are progressing. Rock Band 3 for example has worked with Fender to use a REAL GUITAR. Now you can learn and REALLY play the songs.

    It's all good IMHO.
