  1. phew! just barely made the cut! good luck, everyone; thanks for a great first year!!
  2. i could be wrong, but my basic understanding is that rolex started using 904L in an effort to reduce corrosion due to an increased chromium content in 904L v. 316L. this would certainly attribute to the greater heft and luster of gen pieces. again, could be wrong and would have no problem accepting correction, but after reading as many discussions on this as i could possibly handle before passing out, this is the information i retained.
  3. good on ya, laz...sure is a beauty! i greatly enjoyed the game; this should be come the new standard for those posting any "my new watch" threads. cheers, wear it well!
  4. @MOP: i have dealt with robbie@aoobuy several times; i'll attempt a brief review of various products: bought a breitling box from him and i swear to god it was a stolen oem. purchased a 111h (for practicing reluming), a uboat flightdeck mb, a rlx 16610LV and an iwc f.a. jones...pam was exactly the quality you'd expect for the price, ditto on the lv...f.a. jones was slightly better (came with the full decorated movement, not just the stickered up one) and the uboat, due to it's simplicity, seemed to be of a decently high quality. purchased some big pony polos and others and, having dozens of gens, i would have absolutely no qualms about both purchasing more. stitching is beautiful, just be careful when ordering sizes...the rl polos come slightly smaller than gen sizes, while the lacoste come slightly larger. both excellent quality, even withstand washing (for as long as i've had them). bought two pairs of shoes, both were excellent quality with great stitching, real leather, very comfortable and best of all, don't fall apart after three uses like you'd expect. perhaps a more in-depth review is in order, but i just thought i'd post my experiences.
  5. i've seen this on there too and been tempted to get one to play with...mainly interested in what movement they've got in the manual one...it's so thin! i was gonna get the quartz too, (thinking the mech, at 45$ with some crazy thin movement, will probably break) replace the strap and scratch it up a bit, so if anyone ever did ask me how i could afford a PP i'd just say it was my grandfather's watch! let us know if you pull the trigger; robbie@aoobuy is a great guy.
  6. a little while ago i bought a junker PAM111h for 40$ so i could try my hand at reluming...didn't go as well as i had hoped. so yesterday, decided "well it's already junk, may as well mess with it." sterilized the dial with 3 coats of 'high heat' spray paint to get a matte finish, sprayed the bottom plate white and then 3 coats of john deere yellow (had to touch up a few knicks on the mower...), threw it on a spare rubber strap, and voila! thinking about making the hands white...maybe the second hand red...thoughts?
  7. brand new (to me)...came in last night i feel like a proud new father...
  8. i have purchased from them before, but none of the "swiss" quality versions, only the cheapo ones, so i can't attest to the nice reps, only that it's not a scam. very fast (and free) shipping, no complaints, but again, didn't buy the good ones, only some boxes and a BSO i believe.
  9. thanks so much teejay, i knew i could count on you! sadly, that is very, very similar to his navitimer already....maybe i'll buy that one and we can trade...
  10. a friend of mine (who just received a lovely navitimer for christmas from his girlfriend <thanks to me...> and has been bitten by the rep bug) asked me if there were any reps that only had a 24-hour hand, not a 12-hour hour hand, and i don't know. i searched and didn't really find the answer, so if this has been covered before and i'm just an idiot than i sincerely apologize. are there any reps out there that meet this description?
  11. i was 17 and my then band-mate was trying to come up with better names for our band (star three...what were we thinking...) and he was in some bio class at NU, so while reading his text book, he came across "synaptic," and threw it out there. we all liked it, and so we were all going to change our AIM names to be "synaptic01," "synaptic02," et cetera. well, me being the caring friend i am, knew his favorite number was two. so i called "synaptic02." he got [censored] off, never changed his name, and it's just been my default since then. WAKE UP! that was TOO an interesting story!! ....jerks...
  12. thank you so much for everyone's kind words! they certainly do mean a lot more than a professor's, haha. LOVE the box freddy! i tried doing a film grain on mine as well, but it either messed with the contrast on the dial so that it no longer had that punchy, trademark look or, in hopes of combating that by turning up the contrast, i lost too much of the subtle detail, so i had to scrap it. so glad to see it worked out for somebody... the details, shundi, since this was the first assignment of the course, were simple: "find something you love and sell it to me." so, i'm really, really, really hoping that freddy secretly turns out to be my professor and teejay turns out to be my "tee-a!". wow that was lame, i apologize. ammandel, THANK YOU for FINALLY rewording my slogan. i thought about it for so long trying to simplify it, but all of the ways i came up with were too ambiguous. i LOVE "made for the bottom, worn at the top," and in fact, i'm going to steal it. if anyone would like larger res (even without slogan/logo or with the new slogan, i won't be upset, haha) just let me know what size you need and i'll make it happen! i sent a 1024x768 to laz earlier today that turned out really well...just be warned that anything too large (original res is 3008x2000 or whatever) will start to show all my photography flaws, haha. thanks again everyone!
  13. i had to make some advertisements for class, so i thought i'd share them with some people who might actually appreciate them for something other than composition and a lame phrase! oh, and i took the photos myself and wrote said lame phrase and everything. let me know what you think! unless you don't like them!
  14. second that motion. definitely my go-to "need a suit but less than a tux" watch.
  15. if my desk can wear black with brown, then so can i, dagumit!
