  1. The holes on both inserts look a bit large. I would get a ofrei or yuki pearl with a dab of offwhite paint inside. I personally like the bleached one better. On a side note, is that a PT case? Keep an eye on the crystal at the 10 oclock marker, it may have been slightly damaged when pressing it on. My clark 127 looked exactly the same as yours and now leaks there.
  2. Thanks Freddy, was afraid that would be the case with converting the movement. I saw a 1575 24hr go on ebay last week at a premium. Guess I'll pass on the NDT 1655 over on the FS forum.
  3. Can someone point me in the right direction to get my 1570 converted to a 24hr GMT 1570/5? Is it cost effect to convert, or to just pick up a GMT 1570 movement? My 1570 should go in for servicing, if someone could give me a recommendation to someone for servicing + customizing, I'd really appreciate it!
  4. I hate this place. Looks like I have another project in my queue
  5. I purchased one of these from Josh, and while it was in transit was able to pick up a PT 1680 from a private sale. The watches (as stated above) are indeed quite different. Here's what I've been able to notice. PT's crown guards are much taller and meatier which is a good thing because they need a serious massage. Josh's are stubby and short - which can be made to look decent if you take some meat off the at 10/20. 703 will fit both cases rep tubes - a good thing if you dont feel like countersinking gen/clark tubes. PT case and caseback are stamped 1680, Josh's are stamped 5512 / 5513 Bezel assembly on Josh's allows perfect swaps for clark and gen xtals. On PT's you need to get a new retaining ring fabricated if you want to change xtals.Josh's xtal is nicely bevelled while PT's has no bevel at all. Both date mags are very good. PT's case back is nicely rounded, Josh's has some flat spots which look like it was flat before then someone tried grinding it round << could be a manufacturing defect only on mine The dials are totally differnt. Most notably, PT's date window sits a bit too far to the right therefore dates arent centered. PT's insert (imo) is nicer than josh's. Josh's pearl hole is too large - for those who like to pop pearls off while vintage-izing Both reps out the box are very good and will fool 95% of the folks out there. The only real mods needed are to drill out the lug holes, pick up some 2mm spring bars, and a gen crown. Anyways, for my project I took the good parts from both watches, added an MBW dial (THANKS UBI!), a gen 702 crown/tube and it's now at Pb Dad's spa for treatment.
  6. Another fantastic project! I totally forgot that the older explorers were 36mm! I wonder if a similar build can be done with a 1500 and an ETA? I picked up a 1500 for the movement a while ago and never got around dumping the case. Anyone know where I can get a set of short mercedes hands for ETA?
  7. My dream build! I've got a 1570 in my parts bin just waiting for a worthy project. How on earth did you get a deal on a gen 1665 dial? The only ones I see pop up are $$$$$$.
  8. What did you treat the hands and insert in to get that effect? Acid? Lovely!
  9. Another tip - Instead of randomly picking a site to purchase from, select one from the vendor list here>> http://www.rwgforum.com/forum/230-watches-clothing-accessories/ When dealing with unknown vendors, you run the risk of getting scammed. OH, one more very important tip. If you use paypal or any other method of payment, never enter any verbage in the subject or comments field with regards to replica, rep, fake, watch, etc. Best to leave it blank.
  10. First pick a model you like, then your budget. Once that's been settled, I'm sure a lot of us can help steer you in the right direction on picking up a decent piece. There are quite a number of vendors and sponsors here that'll get you whatever you want.
  11. Speechless. I love every single one of these and in my 'perfect world', I'd have the same exact collection as yours. What 1665 dial is that? The date wheel bevel is lovely! And who's the source for the last case? Is that a yuki valve?
  12. Besides what you mentioned about the lug holes, here's what I can see from your photos. GMT: Oyster Perpetual print looks a bit weird, crown is too large, case looks like its the wrong shape and thickness, no mag on xtal, date wheel looks wrong too. 1680: the "=" sign looks a bit off where it states 660ft=200m, date wheel looks wrong also possibly wrong magnification on cyclops. plexi looks domed or flat - not beveled top hat like gen. Insert and dot are horrible. Markers on dial looks small too. 5513: unsure if Tiffany ever sold a signed a 5513, but think I've seen a 5512 4 liner before. Bezel insert same as the 1680. Out of the 3, I wouldnt purchase any of them. But if I were forced to, I'd get the 5513, but would swap out the dial immediately. These are the types of reps I'd expect to see in Chinatown for $35 each. Hope you didnt purchase any of these.
  13. Just picked up a 42mm version of one of these but it arrived somewhat DOA (12hr power reserve, studdering second hand). Instead of sending it back to the cartel I've ordered a new ETA from ofrei and will pop it in. I've never owned an Omega rep because quite honestly theyre "attainable". Purchased this one after seeing the no happy feet dial and fit/finish and I must admit that this is by leaps and bounds better than any replica I've ever purchased. The weight alone makes it worth the entrance fee, and the fit and finish are an added bonus. The AR is a bit too blue when compared to my speedy, and I may decide to just strip it all together. The crown and HEV arent as crisply cut as my other gen omegas and I may consider swapping them out since gen omega replacement parts arent nearly as expensive as one would think. All in all a fantastic watch at an even better price. Well worth the price - just have some bad luck with mine not working straight out of the box.
  14. I've seen bits and pieces of all these beauties, but do you happen to have a list of details and mods for them? I'm halfway in building a similiar collection and it appears we have the same tastes
  15. Thanks Dizzy! Hopefully after the dial and the JMB retaining ring, I'll be done with this little project, and onto my next
  16. hi All, I picked up a PT 1680 recently and had begun modding it with a clark crystal, a gen 702 crown/tube, lug holes, gen spring bars, etc.. and then took a close look at the dial and was appalled at the lack of quality and QA in the print and font. The date wheel opening was too far right, therefore the any date over the 9th would be either cut off or hidden from view, as seen below - it's the 11th and I can only see the 1 in 11. But the worst part is the printing of the 200m = 660ft as shown below. Anyone try fitting a postless yuki dial over the PT 2846 movement? Will the datewheel line up with the window? Dumb questions, I know - but I'd like to hear some experiences before investing the $$ into a new dial which costs almost as much as the watch its going into. Thanks!
  17. I used to play NCAA golf, but that was 20 years ago. Now I try to play whenever I can, which really isn't often enough. My clubs are a bit dated, and I'm carrying two drivers due to a lack of confidence in my swing. Mizzy mp27/32's on project x 6 TM R580 TP Tour issue on ozik TM R7 TP on Fuji 757 Callway steelhead 16 on dg400 Some hybrid that I can't remember on dg400 Scotty Tei3 H.I. currently high 6 to low 7s, used to be a lot lower. Any BSG or gwrx guys here?
  18. I've owned 3 rep rivet bracelets and theyve all been super flimsy and 'tinny'. Is yours similar? If not, is there anyway to find out where you sourced yours from?
  19. I'm going to email King asap!! Polex Polex Polex!!!
  20. In this corner we have Josh's "new" white 1680: http://www.1-pc8838.com/0rlsv01004-vintage-1680-white-asia-2836-best-p-9479.html And in the other corner, we have PT's tried and true 1680 with slow beat 2846: http://www.puretimewatch.com/product/vintage-white-submariner-1680/ Since nobody can find me an older MBW 1680, it's time I move down the range and into cartel territory for my next acquisition. I'll be doing some simple mods, but want the better base between these two choices. The only PT dial I've seen upclose didnt have a beveled date window, and the fonts were a bit "hokey". I have yet to see Josh's new 1680 in person or in pictures so I can't compare. Hoping someone out there in RWG land can comment on the two dials. Also, Josh advertises that his 1680 can take all gen parts - something that PT doesnt claim. Can the PT take gen xtals and tubes? The mods that'll be applied are: Massaged crown guards Gen 703/7030 Clark tropic plexi Age dial + bezel Yuki pearl I'd appreciate the forums thoughts on which to build please. Happy Holidays!
  21. After the addition of a new crown/tube, my 2824 (Octo signed) has stopped functioning normally and I'm hoping that someone here can advise as what to do next. I'm hoping for a quick fix, something that I can do myself. The movement ticks and runs as usual, but the hour hand will not go beyond the 6 position, nor the 12 when setting counter-clockwise with the crown. I had taken the movement out of the case thinking that the hour hand had come unseated, but quickly realized that it was the hour wheel that seemed to be getting stuck. During the new crown/tube procedure, I had to shorten the stem a number of times to get it right - did I perhaps mess something up since the stem was a bit too long in the beginning? I would take the dial off the movement, but (to my dismay) it's glued onto it. Before doing so, what should I be looking for? I've worked on keyless works before, but that's the furthest I've ever gone into servicing a movement. Hopefully this is an easy fix. Any suggestions are very welcome!

    1665

Yep it is, and I snatched it up Going to see if I can make two decent 1665's with all the parts I have.
  23. Freddy, Good points mate. I'll take some macro shots of my watch and share.
  24. Agreed. Due to the bevelled inside edge of the 702, it looks like it's further away from the case than it really is. So I grabbed my loupe and saw that there were exposed threads. Also, it's this bevel that actually accentuates the flaw. I'll take a stab at reworking the tube tonight, but.. Anyone have a source for 7020 tubes? There was someone here before that had sourced some. I PM'd him and never heard a response. Can 7030 tubes be modified to fit? Thanks guys!
