147 And 104 -- And My 1st Self-customized Strap
sssurfer replied to sssurfer's topic in The Panerai Area
About date: even that 7mm cyclops does not make for any significant improvement in magnification, it rather seems just a cosmetic improvement (quite a pleasant one, though). Also the datewheel font is the usual shitty one -- nothing to compare with the 050 datewheel -- so that overall date redability is as bad as usual. But another finding I may add: the crystal is internally milled to get a place to the cyclops!!! I just wonder why they took the trouble to do all those improvements, still they did not add a better lens and a better datewheel! About the case: it came as you see it: brushed. Exactly the day before I had finished brushing a case for this watch, and it came brushed already! Yes, I know that the 104 is supposed to have a polished case... but that strap was absolutely demanding a brushed case... and I got my 2nd pleasant surprise by getting it exactly as I needed it! If only had I not brushed the other case too! :wallbash: @all: thanks for your kind appreciation! Strap was made by bleaching a chocolato strap, then colouring the stitching with a green magic marker, then bleaching again the stitching only. I suppose that colouring the stitching before bleaching all at once would perform similarly. -
I am still unable to figure out why should anyone use Tantalum (formerly Tantalium) rather than Titanium in a watch -- 3-4 x weight, and almost the same resistance (unless you plan to wear it in a nuclear reactor, naturally ).

(a little hijacking) wheaton, where the heck have you been hiding so far? We missed your tales and writing skills!

New Pam Crown Review And Comments...
sssurfer replied to RWG Technical's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Eeeeewwwww! Stunning / enlightening review as always, The Zigmeister! Thanks! -
Well, sorry, I am unable to help, but I wanted to tell you it is a real beauty, and for free it is a steal! Odds are that you are going to own a $$$$$$$ vintage piece in a while....

Here are some quick shots, mainly wristshots, of my two new babies from Josh. The 147: And the 104 -- w/ Lello's crown and self-customized Don's strap. Notice: this watch has a 7mm cyclops! (And, besides of the watch, please have a look at the strap too): This watch came with quite a good black leather strap on its own, but I just had my 1st trying at strap customizing and this made for a too good occasion to resist. I think the result is not bad at all, but what do you think of it you strap experts? Do you like the light-green stitching matching the dial markers? I also managed to fit a double deployant clasp (Homer's courtesy) on it -- a 4mm thick strap. To anyone interested, what made the trick is leaving the buckle's small tubes out (else you'll get in troubles when closing the clasp):

Howto Press Crown Tube Into Pam Case?
sssurfer replied to ravishingrick's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Thanks Chris. So far, I gave out right after the first few attempts with pliers as it seemed not work and because I was afraid to scratch the tube's end (just in case the new tube would not fit). Now I'll try with renewed energy. And thanks for the advice on possibly screwed in tubes, I had no thought about it. -
Howto Press Crown Tube Into Pam Case?
sssurfer replied to ravishingrick's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
And... How do you remove an old crown tube from a case??? I tried in order to fit a Davidsen crown + tube, but I have never been able in doing it. -
BUMP! Last chance, folks...

My workout is Tai Chi Chuan, where they recommend not to wear even the tiniest bit of metal -- so none of my beloved watches for me there.

I had just some hundreds in the bank and they all have completely gone. All except a certificate of deposit. My onhand cash went down too. Boys, I know this is just a game, but this is the 2nd time it happens and I am getting quite annoyed at it. 80% taxes are ridicolous. I am going to post the least I can since now and on, so I'll get less robbed this way.

I think I've found what to think about as soon as I'll get rid of the cyclops thing... Oh, and besides of reluming, loose lever, and so on...

Great idea, Mahler, and a great step forward from punching every single hole individually with no guideline! Just two clarifications needed: Do you mean it just as an improved version of the cardboard outline, or are the nails rather supposed to be fixed to the outline so they can be punched / pressed all at once just by punching / pressing the outline? How can the screws holding the two outlines together not affect the strap? I seem to understand that they should be placed beyond the strap's ends, correct? Uhm... I feel some great project is taking shape here... keep up with the good work!

Asian 7750 is the standard movement for 40mm PAMs, where the Asian Auto 21J (rep of Miyota 82xx) would not fit due to its larger size. You may also find it in some best quality 44mm models (like Joshua's 104 PN10402). It performs quite well on non-chrono models, as the lacking of additional subdial and function reduces the stress on it. Yes, 048 and 119 are the same model but different dial color, like 049 too. 050, 051 and 120 are same models but with bracelets rather than straps. You may find all that info in my PAM table. Btw, this topic is not supposed to belong to the Photo Gallery.

Mmmm... sorry about that, Ronnie. Probably you are allergic to nickel embedded in SS rather than to SS itself. If so, I seem to remember that even titanium is not pure titanium, but a titanium compound with other elements among which nickel can be involved too. On the other hand, titanium compounds are surely less reactive than SS. Did you already try a test of wearing your Ti watch on summer?

Wow, maybe there is a phase 5?!?

Great info here, folks! Thanks! I am going to try drilling some CG levers in order to slightly enlarge their hole (to put a gasket in and fix the loose lever problems), and this thread comes very handy!

WWW, I am sorry to inform you that you are in phase 4 of Paneraitis according with Esmarc's staging. It is the last and final phase, no therapy is currently available. To your satisfaction, I may add that even phase 1 is suspected to be irreversible and incurable. Further details on related symptoms and syndromes can be found here.

Nice excuse. It seems almost true.

Thanks for your answers, Mahler! (As for the CD, it keeps on getting better and better . PM will follow as soon as I'll have a more complete listening at it -- it is huge!!! -- and as soon as I'll have something for you, too ).
