Thoughts For 2009 RWG Fund Raising Calendar
lanikai replied to lanikai's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the input J.. but the format jus needs polishing.. there will be several cataglories... the vintage reps or frankens should be ones that members actually source and hunt the parts down themselves.. weather they do the entire mod themselves or not.. jus buying a fully modded franken from another member kinda defeats the spirit .. IMO.. -
Just when I thought the big watch obsession was over.. No review.. or macro pics.. jus for easy viewing.. the Lite BB King.. some glue around the pearl that needs cleaning..

Corgi,.. there is nothing to apologize for.. IMO it is purely "cultural" .. not speaking for Chino .. but as a latino Male.. the "Machismo" like part of the anatomy... as many friends I have at the gym are very much in to the "Mui Macho" .. that is jus my opinion.. not a reflection on "stereotyping"... you two will find the same path eventually .. like many of us after "dueling".. we find that our common interest superseeds disagreements.. we all are obsessed with timepieces.. so Peace to da both of ya.... Remember Gang.. this is a "Calendar".. some idea's here are GREAT... but IMO would be better served as a post in Essay form .. such as the history of the Submariner Rep.. and other topics that would take pages to compose.. Other idea's such as TMG's "Trivia" "RWG History" could be noted on the dates they really took place.. I'm not saying to make it plain and mundane.. keeping it simple for our first edition does not mean it has to be boring .. We can go with the 12 month format .. and work a little, year round for the 2010 edition.. seeing that we only have a couple of months left in 2007 .. my suggestion is keep it very simple for our first edition and build on it .. otherwise we will not have enough time .. it may not make everyone happy which is alway's hard to do.. As our "Pilot" Calendar it should work out jus fine.. thoughts ?? (I hope I don't regret ending with that statement,.. say's to self..) -
Let me look and see what is all there.. but if I do have it as a spare.. your money would not be accepted..

Raymond has a wrist about that size .. and his fits no problem.. or you could alway's get a Gator strap .. which brings down the 'look" of the ROO being oversized.. jus a thought..

I think .. like all our disagreements.. it boils down to a misunderstanding,.. I'm sure Chino meant tasteful images.. and Corgi has a point too.. so no right or wrong in this issue.. jus a communication breakdown..or testsoterone overload.. whatever the case .. can we chaulk it up to what it is.. A Misunderstanding amonst friends... -

Corgi.. I think this would be better served as a normal Post.. this would be a project you may want to undertake.. it will take a good amount of research.. and time.. and IMO would do better as a well done research post .. with the possibility of being pinned than in a calendar.. great idea btw.. go for it.. -

Great idea Guy's... although I am wondering about any pics that would expose faces.. but the shot of the Pams spread out is .... "Snap !" @Teejay...Thanks TJ.. I'm sure your graphic expertise will be needed at some point and time. -
Reluming this dial would be something only Ziggy would be capable of accomplishing.. but if you look at how high the numerals are raised.. the re-lume may be questionable.. but I am not the 'expert' be sure the date window on the black dial is all black ... like the genuine Only the hands are lumed on the rep..(black dial)

That's a great idea S ... we need some input on this.. there are soooo much things.. maybe you can think of one or two to get it started.. would it be historical facts on watches ??.. reps..?? ie. vintage history .. movements. ?? -
Thank you HB .. doing more forearm curls to try and match the APROO .. or I can get a perfectly starched cuff like yours.. I likes those sharp edges in cuffs.. French Cuffs would be awesome with your HBB Cuz..

Corgi.. leaning towards pre-printed calendars for security and control purposes.. but if we can stay on point for now.. the tech experts will work on these issue.. I posted this for the base of ideas not on the tech side.. ie. each month does not have to be jus one pic .. it can be an assortment .. (jus an idea) .. multiple images on one page .. and not necessarily 12 months.. but for now we lay off the tech aspect.. jus trying to get the "meat and potatos" for the images.. -
Weather we see the Fund Raising Calendar come to fruition .. I would like to keep the idea alive !! Some thoughts for it .. Vintage Months: Pics From... Try to keep it simple.. this is our first attempt ... I for one would really like to see this happen .. even if it's not going to be a large number in production.. it's a start.. discussion please.. I was compeled to ask Hawaii's first Olympic Gold Medalist "Tommy Kono" ( at the gym I train at now) he's in his 70's but there almost daily .. "Mr Kono, what do you think about the new Generations coachability?" in which he replied.. "They are not coachable,.. with no experience, they think they know everything !" Seems like this is the norm rather than the exception in "life" these day's Thought for the day .......TT.. the "Hammer" .. RWG's Action Dude...

Thank you all... some really interesting feedback.. I agree with all that's said.. and TJ .. said it ... those who purposely "call out" anyone are really classless... although I could see doing it to someone that was acting the "snob" .. and pushing his or her weight around as if to say .. "I'm better than all of you".. then it would be an enjoyment to somehow ask if the timepiece they were wearing was actually "real" What I was actually trying to do was save someone from total embarrassment .. as he has the propenceity to over do "talk" .. but oh well .. lesson learned.. unless asked.. mind my business.. and btw.. I never wear a rep that is "over ma head".. if I go to dine at one of the 5 star hotels .. alot of international tourists there.. I like to wear something that has been modded by Ziggy.. after I sourced parts for it.. that way I am totally up front with .."my Hobby"

know what you mean C.. well you can alway's be like me .. learn by mistakes.. .. or improvise.. i don't know the way everybody else gets the second hand on.. but I put a pinch of radico on the hand tool stuck the hand on it and it popped right into the cannon pin thingi.. I see one of pugs pics with a toothpick he fashioned into a cool piece to put the hand on.. leave it to Pug.. @TT.. agree.. thanks for reminding me.. I keep putting off ordering the AS Tag.. cause my dealer say's something about the case back not being correct.. but that wouldn't bother me ..
-
You are "on it" Ubi.. the part about building a watch.. that is the difference ... the "Hobby" and Passion takes far more knowledge and research than walking into an AD and purchasing one ... I'm not knocking Genuines, (I wouldn't pass one up).. but for me it would be like.. OK, I bought it.. it looks good.. but where is the pay-off.. the Hunt so to speak.. ( I know we all discussed this previously) .. anticipation etc. .. the pride (especially for You) in getting it perfect.. I have known this persons character for a while.. there was someone that recognized me in the locker room and asked me if I still compete , and passed on some nice compliments , remembering one of the contest I entered.. well he 'burlarized' our converstaion and butted in with a long winded story of his accomplishments... although he dosen't know a diet from Crown... he needs to be the center of attention.. so I walked away.. not letting it bother me.... but when he started BS'ing about the insert .. believe me inside I was rolling.. Great advice to the newcomers A.... funny how the saying goes... "the greatest gift to a liar is to remember what he said yesterday" .. cause for every lie you need to make up another one to cover the last one.. and on infinitum Since being here on RWG what I have found is that this community as a whole is full of Honourable members .. and this being a replica forum and genuine forums looking down on our Hobby.. it is a wonderful thing to see ... I would put our communities Honor to any forum,.. watch or not ... all of you are a great example to the newcomers .. This place is a lot more than jus watches !!
-
Yes, but what is funny is I wasn't trying to call him out.. rather I was as tactful as I could be and was attempting to help the guy.. well he didn't know what a CG was let alone dial font.. so my lesson is learned ... with the reps that are bought genuines could be had for every 10 or 20 reps.. but I am not into that .. jus funny how this "hobby" needs to be kept "underground".. although google anything and we pop up..

what prompts me to post his topic is that I ran into a (I would say acquaintance) after many years at the new gym I joined.. And I noticed (of course) his watch .. which had the unmistakable link bracelet.. I of course became very interested as perhaps we had something in common.. after all it was obviously a vintage model and looked to new to be the real deal.. I asked him what he was wearing .. when I viewed the dial I realized it was a very "bad" replication.. it was a 1680 dial without the proper markings and very bad printing on the dial.. absolutely no lume or any indication that it had ever had lume on it.. I told him I was into vintage rolexes as a "Hobby" .. about the reps and genuine dials available.. well,... he insisted that he just sent his into "Rolex" for repair.. the bezel had fallen off.. and they replace it.. well it was a terrible insert with the wrong pearl and font on the insert.. he had a after market pexi crystal with a totally incorrect dial something in the mix of a 1680 and a 1665.. but not close to either.. the printing was "blurred" .. it was a embarrassment really.. I was sharing with this person that if he wanted a more accurate watch ... yada.. yada... at which point the said.. " I just spent 1300 usd for rolex to replace the insert"... so needless to say I just shut up and won't bring it up again.. it was such a terrible "fake" I thought I could clue him into being more accurate.. It's too bad.. I thought we had a common interest in the "Hobby".. obviously he wants people to believe something else.. If asked about the vintage Rolex's I have on I simply say that it is my "Hobby" .. and I have friends that are really into watches that have helped me have fun in sourcing genuine parts and modding watches.. it's fun ... like people who collect vintage model trains and such.. So it made me reflect on this Forum.. how we can share and really ENJOY what we do.. at least we "know" what we do is for enjoyment .. thanks RWG !! for being here !! Aloha~Cheers Lani
