  1. The V-3 crystal height was rather flat compared to the gen DSSD.. it was due in part with the insert riding to high and the crystal itself being rather flat.. the New DSSD by Perfect Clones seems to have addressed both issues. It was difficult capturing the outline of the domed sapphire on the new version.. it is rather translucent (obviously) and challenging to get perfect.. so I had to take it at times at a little bit of an angle.. but I think the outline is captured so you can make out the shape.. anyway.. some pics for crystal height.. You can make out the lip of the crystal in the New Version DSSD in the backgound and look to the reflection on the crystal for curvature. at this angle you can see the curvature and apex of the crystal a little better than horizontally.. where the apex of the crystal distorts, with light bouncing around on the inside of the crystal. The best shot I could get of the genuine.. again borrowed from a gen. forum.. thank you gen forum and owner of this pic. You can make out the shape, though not the best image, but enough to give you an idea of the slight dome in the crystal. This is the most I can go on the New DSSD without loosing the shape in the image But you can see how flat the V3 crystal is.. almost no dome Notice the reflection in the crystal that looks like steps.. progressing as the dome increases. the newest DSSD version is definitely a domed crystal.. AC/Lani
  2. You always have a way to make me chuckle at life W... thank you Arthur.. just got up and didn't have my coffee on my last post AC L
  3. Ok so we've compared basically the 316 steel to my gen. Explorer .. mainly the bracelets.. I took images of the case sets of my new DSSD from Perfect Clones and compared it with my gens. As state before .. whatever metal is in the rep. case set and bracelet ..IMO.. it "visually".. looks great in comparison to the color and texture of the genuine Rolex steel.. if you were to take it side by side into a test for depth .. no doubt the rep will not hold up.. as was done on a professional test by a member a couple of years ago.. that's why Rolex' claim to have conquered the Sea, stands tall..we won't get into Doxa.. ..having been the "first" with an He valve.. anyway I digress .. here are some images in an assortment of lighting. This first image has the most light from left to right.. the Exp.(gen) getting the most light and the GMTII(gen) getting the least with the DSSD in the middle as far as light and ceiling reflection this was taken under a little more controlled lighting with a studio lamp. Max natural lighting with optimum exposure Lower natural light with less exposure the metal on the Exp. has been refinished, but a example of the quality of Rolex Steel.. from the 70's strange set up .. just for visual effect to get them as close together as possible The 316f steel looks like a winner in the case set also..
  4. processing the comparison in crystal height now with the newest version and the V3 .. also, shot images of the case with my genuine'.. I'll start a separate thread for those 2 topics. AC/L
  5. yes Zirrrr.... relumed by Zig.. AR by chief. eta DW swap,... eta 7750 dropped in.
  6. Gio.. the rep does come AR from the factory.. not bad either... but for maximum effect.. guess who's Ar sits atop my CD 06 ?? here's my Slevin with Chiefs AR .. the glare is the reflection off the "dial" AC/Lani
  7. I can always use the crown.. bracelet parts.. etc. etc. we'll see what the bidding is like A .. if the crown fits on my 300nt.. and I can get it to screw down.. then my signature crown form the NT already has a second home.. AC/L
  8. R it depend largely on the lighting source for the pics also..in strong artificial lighting the patina look can appear white as does your pic of the gen.,, may be flashed used on that one.. I would just trust Ziggy' judgment on the colour. he has "seen and handled" the genuine too.. here is a pic of a genuine with flash.. the lume looks lighter in colour A pic of my Ziggy lume FGD dial.. in natural light. A little more light I would just leave it to Zig....even the gen tritium lume will have a chameleon effect in different lighting... Ziggy's mix for colour reacts the same way .. and what I like is that it's not a strong lume when charged.. very faint.. I don't want it to glow like C1-C3 in the dark.. AC/L
  9. Not to compromise what Gio is stating.. we all have preferences.. cape cod is used a lot for polishing silver .. it does remove fine scratches for me also.. I use it on my Pams.. and Rollies.. even brushed surfaces for more sheen and believe it or not PVD to remove scratches.. to remove the sheen on PVD just use a tooth brush soap and warm water.. You should wash off the underside of the bracelet before wearing a watch that has been polished with cape code and do not get the residue on your upper part of your hand .. it will cause a severe rash in some people. I usually just cut off a very small piece and work a piece at a time with my watches... the black soot residue that comes off the ss is oxidation from the metal... it will appear on the cape code... the blacker the cloth gets the more oxidation is on the metal surface. Do not get the solution on any AR coating.. it will damage the coat. Here are some pics of my Pam's and my VC.. the brushed finish has more sheen after the cape cod.. After using the cape cod I polish the metal with an ole undershirt.. use cotton fabric to finish.. the cape cod is like applying polish to the surface and acts as a macro compound to remove fine scratches. I also use aluminum mag wheel polish.. but this is a little messier ... a toothbrush to finish removing polish form the cape cod cloth in cracks.. and the cracks in between the bezel..if you don't remove it it will dry to a white residue. AC Lani
  10. are you talking about the light distortion ?? the genuine Rolex has the same properties.. no AR.. or are you referring to the mag effect with the thick crystal?? I used a macro lens for the pics.. manual focus.. and at that close range focusing is challenging.. I will take pics of the height difference today with a normal lens.. for more clarity of the crysatl, since focusing on a transparent piece of the watch has it's draw backs with a macro... auto focus does not work with these close ups.. the camera gets confused as to what to focus on with the metal reflecting light. you must mean one of the other fora's Samu .. it would be funny if you posted it here in another DSSD thread.. AC/Lani
  11. Ok .. thanks gavi.. more constructive than the post after yours.... I'll add that to my comparison of the crystal heights.. thanks for not listing the googled compounds .. seen it a dozen times myself.. this thread is mainly to "compare" the aesthetics and not the chemical composition that most people who post them don't know WTF they mean.. there are only a couple of members whom work with metal, and know wht the compositions refer to.. ergo .. I did not attempt to impress with things I have no knowledge with... I do know chromium and nickel.. as my skin reacts to nickel and I've worked with chromium..so I stuck with the issues I am familiar with. that is a bold statement from a noob Pete.. I am just like any other customer/member.. that I do these reviews does not give me "special" status.. you can do them.. that's how I started reviewing watches .. buy them, take pics .. so others can have the opportunity to choose.. you will find for all your time and effort ... there are those who appreciate it by crapping on the thread..and those viewing,.. using the info and not having the courtesy to say "thankyou".. takers in life I post the Dealer to avert me getting 50 pm's which take a good part of my day to get through... as in the past I just post the watch without naming any dealer and get swamped with PM's and inquiries on the thread... and it's not like I don't have other things to get done.. The raffles ...which as a noob I'll fill you in .. in case you think I get "special" privileges from that too. sometime ago Admin would have to dig in his own pocket to meet the monthly bills.. and or ask members for donations.. it was always the same members donating rather large amounts of cash while others turned away and surfed .. while others payed for their weight. I donated a couple of watches for auction to raise money for our monthly usage.. after some time.. I was asked if I could take on the responsibility of "raffles".. and this being my one and only fora that I call home.. I accepted.. Until now Joshua and Andrew are the only dealers that have donated watches.. a lot of them actually, along with my own collection of new unused pieces we have done ok as a community .. with members paying for raffle tickets to support the monthly usage.. we will be in need of more raffle funds for our winter months shortly. I do not get "special status" from this either.. I'm in service to the community.. as others are and some remain anonymous.. old time vets whose passion for RWG is endless. So .. as a Noob .. this was to fill you in on what "we" do as a community.. reviews can take up to a full day or longer .. Andrew spent 40 hours once on a comprehensive review on Breitlings.. we receive no pay, or compensation... so if you think I get better treatment than any other rank and file member.... think again Pete We are a "not for profit fora".. and rely on members as a community to share knowledge and experience.. some share only negative .. that is their course in life too.. imo.. So as you "learn" what we are as a community.. someday I hope to read "your" reviews and "thank you" for the endless hours spent on these beasts..everyone starts somewhere in life, as is true in this community also, be one of the good guy's and give back.. which I believe you will ~ AC/L
  12. Here's mine with Ziggy serviced PVD Zig vintage lume AC/L
  13. go here Perfect Clones @P4.. yeah.. it was the lighting and reflection in the lighting.. the light bouncing off the inside of the crystal see the other pics the lettering looks fine.. AC/Lani
  14. tis that Stephane !! Patina coming on sloooowwwly.. the 316F steel looks even better in person.. AC/L
  15. I've edited my initial comment on the height of the crystal, the V3 looked lower due to the insert height.. the newest version crystal appears to be the correct height due to the insert riding lower on the bezel the gen the rep I'll take pics of the V3 next to this version to compare.. but a very nice fix although the "10" is still incorrect.. this insert raises the crystal. AC/L
  16. Don't feel to badly RT ... my V3 was also modded.. blue lume etc. .. I can always raffle it now.. or do something totally outta line like sell it.. but that would negate another raffle.. AC/L
  17. Muckin Fuch
  18. Cousteau 2006 Slevin AC/Lani
  19. Thanks BT.. believe it or not.. my frankens get more wrist time than my gen. outta the 2 gen expl. .. the white dial is my fav.. AC L
  20. thank you JJ .. gonna take a capecod to it tonight and see if it will make a difference.. although with as much chromium in the 316f.. I don't think it'll make as much difference as it does on the 316L.. AC/Lani
  21. Thank you Mac. ... it is rewarding when the review is appreciated.. the Bezel insert can be replaced..as others have commented about on this thread.. I am totally happy with mine after 2 other versions didn't cut the mustard.. and Josh and andrew are great with after purchase service.. I guess it depends on how you come across to others .. I've had issues with all other dealers concerning QC.. all others.. and Joshua and Andrew (and a couple of others) are dealers who come through "always" with defects or parts if I need them. Looking forward to your pics.. AC/Lani
  22. Welcome Snap See you found your way to the intro section .. good to have you aboard !!! this is a great community, full of great knowledge bar none. be it replications or genuine.. it's all here.. more info than any genuine forum .. and much more FUN!!. there is much to learn here from the vets.. about movements and dials and the whole ball o wax.. so get ready to have fun and enjoy this hobby and community as I and countless others have.. for EU.. members have Eurotimez and PT (Puretime).. but any dealer can ship to the EU with relatively no problem with Customs.. Are you talking about the DSSD? Deep Sea Sea Dweller?? there are 2 new versions out that kick butt !! and Pams from DSN.. but fishgodeep produces the best PreV Vintage dials,.. and there are members who offer services from Mods to the best AR (anti reflective coating) in the known Universe.. there are 2 mods that are endorsed by RWG.. Ziggy and Vac. .. chieftang is the AR guru.. with his AR better than any genuine brand .. the only one that compares is the gen. UN's So get ready for an adventure.. give a holla if you need an assist.. Just please check before buying form any other source than our "trusted dealers".. it will save you and your wallet heartache.. AC/Lani
  23. IMO.. the closest to the genuine Rolex steel has been produced in the 316F steel.. Within the 300 ss grade there are multiple grades of the, 302,..304 and the 316's (this being the strongest and best in resisting corrosion).. all have a certain amount of Chromium in them and nickel, iron being the main component.. the chromium added to iron along with other metals give iron it "Stainless Steel" name,.. "resistant" to corrosion with more strength and less weight with the 316L steel my wrists turns a little blackish.. even with the 914 steel in the gen. Rolex, maybe due to the nickel in the metal.. dunno.. and I haven't worn the DSSD long enough in the day to see if this is the case with the 316F also.. It is the "finish" that gives any metal it's final "look", the genuine Rolex is no exception.. very fine brushed "satin" finish.. lends to more sheen than the coarser brushed finish IMO the new DSSD I have from Perfect clones comes the closest to the genuine Rolex steel in aesthetics... the genuine Rolex must have a good amount of chromium in it, my statement comes from the fact that when I take a capecod cloth to it the cloth does not turn as soot black as the 316L steel does.. making me think there is more nickel in the 316L than chromium.. ergo the reason the steel is darker and oxidizes faster. The black soot like residue forms on the cape code or polishing rag when you use a metal polish due to the oxidation being removed from the metal. I took a little piece of capecod to the DSSD 316F and found much, much less oxidation or nickel (or whatever alloy it is) on the cloth.. Regardless of my thought's here are some pics of the DSSD 316F next to my gen. Rolex Explorer First here is the old 316L DSSD next to the gen. .. dull, dark and no sheen in comparison to the genuine Perfect Clones new DSSD 316F steel next to the gen... focus viewing the links on the bracelet that are lite up .. Not the same height in the pics.. but you get the point I tried to get the watches exactly in the same location for the next 2 images.. I had to do them obviously separate form each other. I could not get the different sized links to be placed exactly the same.. but close enough. Gen. so, ..imo the makers nailed this one.. and I will repeat it has to do with the finish just as much as the metal itself.. I will have to refinish my Milgauss in order for it to have a more satin finish.. it is on the coarse side.. just gotta get to my cousins jewelry shop to borrow his satin finishing wheels .. and the Milgauss bracelet will be as good as the DSSD. thanks for viewing.. AC Lani
  24. only you would notice your work.. actually there is not a grain of difference from either side cept the stiching, and that makes it look more hand made.. \ I'll be sending out the buckle this week AC/L
