  1. I have a couple of cases laying around that eventually will be part of a snowflake project. In the meantime I saw this movement, hands and dial on the bay and could not resist. Parts all fit an eta movement (thoretically at least), but come mounted on a chinese movement. Given my long history of screwing up keyless works by removing the stem in the wrong position - where should the crown be when I pull it out? By the way the seiko 7s26 is the best I have seen, in that the lever you push is only visible when the crown is in the correct place.
  2. anyone have experience with the $98 sea dweller with pretty much the same "closest rep ever" description?
  3. buddy dizzy, not you do think my 5510 daytona dial with in case swatch made by is one off $$ multi watch original? what2 watch has wrist on... original must be.. as i many posts have once have made wait where was I... "I" before "E" except when trying to right in made up english....
  4. I wonder what name orchi uses to post here?
  5. I just hope I never get as anal about anything as those guys do about subjects such as "3 milled rings in the case instead of 2" or even more exciting is the 25 or so posts on the reason that a certain watch differs from the picture in a well know rolex book is because "the movement hold down screw in the watch pictured is not tightened completely"
  6. cheap b@st@rd, if you got one of the 3-axis routers why would you stop as case backs, couldn't you do whole cases. Add a 3-d laser scanner and could you not make a copy of any case you stuck in it?
  7. My mods are going to be limited to snowflake dial and hands and a gen crown, so the true craftsmen on the board are going to probably look at my creation in horror
  8. some quick and dirty pictures, biggest glaring difference is the case back, making an exact rep a difficult process. The rest of the case though is close enough in my opinion to serve as the base of a wearable snowflake rep. The gen is on the top the crown guards "curve" the opposite way, the gens are sloped down while the rep are sloped up. The crown is also wrong, though I have a gen crown to replace it. I did some work on a seiko sub to tide me over until I get the tudor put together, a sterile mil-sub rep.
  9. a great forumer donated a 1680 rep case to the cause, and I have my gen snowflake to compare... while there are subtle differences all around the biggest difference is in fact the caseback, other than that the cases are very close in size and shape. The contrasts are not to the point of killing the project since all I really am after is a snowflake looking watch that I can get wet. I'll take some comparison pictures once the sun comes fully up out here in seattle.
  10. keep in touch, once I build the rep I will probably flip it
  11. I've got a 1680 case coming from a forumer, and bought this yesterday to serve as my guide... lets see what happens next, just hoping the whole thing does not end up in a ziplock bag in my watch box along with other "bright idea" projects.
  12. I"m thinking the answer might be no, if so is there another easier to find family of eta movements that use the same hand size? Yukiwath for instance sells a dial and hand set for 2784, dial I am not worried about with glue... hands though might be a problem.
  13. thanks for the offer. Now I can get to work finding the rest of the parts
  14. and am I correct in assuming that mbk cases are made of un-obtanium?
  15. and most rolex rep cases uses 28MM dials, do any of them uses the smaller dial size?
  16. looking for a basic vintage sub style case to put a repro snowflake dial and hand set that I found, I am not overly worried about absolute accuracy.
  17. not looking for 100% accuracy, just a decent snowflake I can wear without fear, what are your thoughts?
  18. and skip my 1st step of buying a $5 wrench set on ebay, suprisingly that one does not work either
  19. note to self..... 45 minutes in the oven is too long for a dial. You can guess how I know!
  20. I did the same thing to mine, I used a bit less epoxy, and a gasket to hold the bezel in place. Problem started when I took the bezel off and never could get it back together right with the plastic retaining ring. Of course I disclosed all this when I sold it...
  21. I have a rep older style rolex box that might work, not sure where I picked it up. You can have it for the cost of the postage
  22. the trouble is that about the only time I have to work on watches is late at night, and I have no patience... Actually I have a bunch of non-working movements to practice on.
  23. Es95 kit, they were out of 2801's, but I get access to both sets of lessons so once I get finished losing the parts from this one I will follow the eta lessons
