  1. there is a nice little handwind movement in the box from Ofrei... happily ticking along... much like the cows in line at the packing plant.. blissfully unaware of the "adventures" that await. Should have ordered a spare movement at the start and save time later
  2. soon I will have the lack of skills to screw up movements too...
  3. what is the trade name of Andrew's site.
  4. I have a spare Josh 1655 case I can sell you cheap, the movement dial and hands are unfortunatly no longer with us due to a combination of me, my watch tools and a couple of scotches... sad sad story... I think some epoxy was involved too... but on the plus side I did gain the bracelet to put on my 1680.
  5. well given my history making a profit is not really a worry
  6. I am thinking of selling a watch I have posted for discussion, want to start a new project... what are the forum rules as far as how long I need to wait before posting the piece for sale?
  7. funny thing is now that I have the 1680 pretty much where I want it I more or less lost interest... and I have another gen crown... maybe a 5512?
  8. got a gen crown for my 1680, amazing how easy that was to put on. Of course as is my custom I only attempt watch work when i am drinking single malt, which led to me taking it all apart and putting it back together with the rep crown back on, luckily I noticed my error before the locktite set. I even made sure that the stem was in the correct position before removing it. Then I started thinking that while the bracelet that came with it was nice.... a 1680 should really be on a folded link.. the good/bad news was that I had one of the new folded link rep bracelets from a explorer 2 mcqueen that had met an unfortunate death at the hands of my watch tools; should be easy right? Changing the clasp was a nightmare, drew blood twice For all the talk of how cheaply made reps are; I am guessing that the one piece made to military/nasa specs is the folded link holding the clasp to the bracelet. Luckily I was able to resist the urge to take a saw to it, and after a while and much blood and swearing got it off. Anyway I am happy with the results and I will never try it again. My bracelet needed just a bit of work to get the 2mm spring bars in by the way
  9. my best ideas generally come when I am trying to fix something I screwed up...
  10. The puretime 5514's are nice, though I am still leaning more towards a 5512-13 style. Thinking that trusty may be the way to go and live with the known issues
  11. so I have come full circle... back to a trusty 5512? Or is a there a closer to reality version for about the same amount money?
  12. same thing I was thinking, seems like I spend $180 or so and know what I am getting is 5512ish, or spend a bunch more and have no idea?
  13. still after a decent, $200 or so 5513/5512, been told that the trusty is not up to par. Another was suggested that was much closer to reality case wise but it had a 369 dial which I do not want. What are the suggestions as to the best band for the buck 5513 wise? I don't mind changing inserts, and I have a spare rolex crown
  14. My first idea was an o-ring... it was too big. I found that unless the band was very tight against the side of the crystal the bezel would not seat flush against the case.. which was the problem I had with the original white plastic ring to start with.
  15. I picked up a puretime 1680 a while back, messed up the hands.. fixed that, then the crown would not lock in, justasgood fixed that for me. Then we come to the bezel, and the ^*(%(* white plastic ring that holds the bezel on and the crystal too I guess. I could not get it all back together right, justasgood could not do it.. started to look around for something else to use. I planned on setting the crystal with epoxy so I did not have to worry about holding it on. Came across some tiny rubber bands that my wife uses for my 5 year old daughters hair. The barely fit on my pinky and are about 1mm in size. I put a blue one on first and stuck on the bezel.. and perfect; the bezel fit tight and turned with just the right amount of resistance, unfortunately the crystal had a blue tint from the rubber band. Dug through the big box of rubber bands and saw one that was kind of a faded yellow. Bam that was the ticket, the crystal took on a slightly yellow tone from the rubber band and the bezel works great. crappy pictures but you get the idea, can hardly notice the bubbles in the dial from my baking it for 45 minutes... I think the insert could use a bit more bleach. I also have a gen crown coming in the next day or two.
  16. that was more or less what I was thinking too, just thought maybe there was a seller I did not know of
  17. $35,000 on the VRF, I am after the same look at about 1/100 the price..
  18. I love gens, have a couple and bought another yesterday...but since these guys bid beatup rolex watches to the $10,000 or more I can't do it.. and if I did would be afraid to wear it.
  19. for a lazy guy who is dangerous with watch tools...
  20. so are noobmariners a good buy or bad buy... they are not expensive but if they are way off then then the cost does not really matter does it?
  21. thinking of this sea dweller am I gaining anything by going NOOB, or would a puretime be just as good or better?
  22. narikaa is out, tried a search but all I seem to find is members telling others they should get a noob.. but where?
  23. I had not noticed but the PC has a somewhat smaller bulge, but there none the less.
