  1. I dont believe any the asian-movement reps costing more than MAX $100 to buy from the factory. Or do you really think some of these reps cost $500, with the normal Asian 7750? Sure, the dealers say they do"quality control", but how many of those do something better than winding and letting the watch run for a day before sending (if even that)?
  2. Yup, I think it was a 16,5 ligne movement. I have a pocketwatch with a stunning (in my opinion ) Illinois movement in it on the way, couldn't find exact info on the movement, but it should be ok . Of course this is no way historically correct . Then again, I don't see the point of abusing a freshly-milled steel case to make it appear old and then put the historically correct movement either. That being said I'm also waiting for a nice old "sterile" Molnija 3602 with no russian engravings
  3. Guess it depends on the viscosity. There are 3 kinds of oils used for watches anyhow, with different properties (surface tension, viscosity and blabla I guess?). If you can get silicon oil with similar stats, what difference can it make?? I'd think the synthetic lubricants have some silicon parts in them anyhow So wheres the Zigmeister
  4. I just posted that link because there was some different ideas of watch winders (so the OP could decide on which to build ;o ), didn't pay much attention to the details lol . Glad you guys read it tho !
  5. I believe you need a 16.5 ligne (36.6mm) movement for most Panerai cases? I think the 532 might fit in a 47mm case with extra work tho? The 665 is too small to be worth trying imo, won't look good. I personally am I love with the American movements from the 20's and 30's. I'm a huge naab, but I doubt any european-made movements come even close to those. Amazing decoration, very fine micro-regulators, beautiful screwed golden chatons... Cant wait to get my first one . Hopefully I'll manage to get it in a Panerai sterile case
  6. Awsome work!! Thanks for sharing, I was thinking of trying something out myself. Now that the road is paved...
  7. Rofl all the hate. Hillarious. \ $300 new from Russia I think. Quick googling -> Clickie Rugift. a vintage piece would be interesting I guess . 1min/24 hours deviation
  8. God, I hate the way the "luxurious" lifestyle is presented to the masses in such articles and even TV shows. Makes me nauseous..
  9. Keep in mind the winding mechanism isnt perfect - depending on the movement, the rotor has to make a certain amount of movement before even engaging the gears and transfering power to the mainspring. I don't really remember the numbers, and its very dependent on the exact movement.. A link for you about different winders. (hope its ok to post it, if not, mods please remove it)
  10. Why do you even handwind an automatic?? I just give it a quick swirl and its good to go.. Handwinding seems counterproductive to me in that aspect . I don't think hacking movements with fully wound mainspring is a great idea, the stress coming from the mainspring constantly cant be good .
  11. Zenith used to make such beautiful watches :<. Then LVMH came..
  12. Switch the first "m" for a "u" and we are good Wrapped might refer to gold-filled/rolled gold, but with a thinner layer of gold.. The idea is that a layer of gold is bonded to the base material (brass, copper, silver, you get the idea) and then further processed to the final piece. Lots of pens for example use rolled gold, as it should be quite easy to make a cylindrical object like that . That being said, I dont see how anyone can weld a layer of gold ontop of a thing as complex as a watch case or similar.. . So it doesnt seem that realistic after all
  13. I doubt those movements will get "cloned". All movements which run over 48-52 hours seem to be with multiple barrels/mainsprings.. The only source of such a movement from Asia could comefrom the Seagull factories, as they are really trying to impress.. I wouldnt hold my breath tho
  14. Are there versions with working power reserve indication? Or are these not so close to the gen piece?
  15. Is it the 42mm version? Do all 42mm ones come with the Seagull ST19? It's a bit confusing which is which with these imo ;x
  16. Does the gear move, or is it simply glued there (as some suggested before)? Also, i cant make it out, does the plate have the Geneva waves decoration? Looks like it but maybe my eyes are lying
  17. Well I find it quite nice . However I can only imagine it looking good on a lady's wrist.. It should look quite fine there tho
  18. Around $750 for IWC 79350, the movement used in a Ingenieur Chronograph or the AMG edition of the same. I think if you have a watchsmith clean and oil the rep movement it should be good for some years to come..
  19. Are you sure the geniune doesn't have AR? I find this kind of hard to believe.. Can't really think of any maker in this price segment that doesn't use AR on all watches
  20. Jeez, I hate marketing crap so much.. "Forged Carbon" please . It is neither forged, nor in any way unique. It would have also been better if they used the real names of the involved materials as well - "carbon wires" or "resin wires" dont really exist. Carbon fibre filament on the other side Oh well
  21. Ah I was drooling just yesterday about that watch . Too bad I missed it by a few days.. Wear it well
