  1. I agree mate... size makes all the difference... I keep hearing that somewhere as well....outside this forum as well !!! ;) ;)

Hopefully see some soon on thier sites :) I keep checking ;)

I think prices are starting to come in higher on new stuff of late :(

I reckon 6 months ago this would have popped up for around $330-350...

But whether its a dealer decision or maker is always hard to tell.. as prices tend to stay pretty constant across dealers... and so many factors can influence who is taking what and why..

  2. Hi Everyone! I just got my grey faced GTXL yesterday and i too noticed the choppy chrono seconds hand.  Did a search and found this thread.  Looks like i'm not alone.

After i removed the watch and figured out the deployment clasp, the plate with the engraved map at the back fell off the caseback! I seem to have no luck with these things.  Anyone know how i can secure it permanently to the caseback?

Btw it is a beautiful watch.  Just seems a tad big for my skinny wrists...

I always preferred the A07 options myself on the chronos... the versions from H maker..which IMHO I think are more accurate..

A good service wil sort your choppiness out mate I am sure.... and its always a good idea to do a service on any rep you intend to keep :) whether it has an issue or not as any dirt etc will slowly cause an issue and might do more damage if left... well you know what I mean I am sure :)

Surely your CB is screwed on?

Do you mean that fell off? ie all screws are gone? (I am sure that aint the case but always best to ask) Or is this version you have not engraved on the CB but the map on a thin metal sheet and just glued on to a blank CB ?

If it is then just glue it back on... maybe with an aralidite 2 pack for metal... just prepare surfaces like clean and remove old glue etc

Have you a pic mate ? It helps and stops us guessing on possible solutions :) ( I aint being sarky mate :) )

  3. I would like to handle one or  the Rolex strap just to get an idea of the quality... I am not really into rubber straps but if I do wear them I always go OEM as reps never touch them IMHO :)

I know a few mates (OK maybe I am exaggerating as someone is bound to mention that I dont have any !! :) ) who are Rolex geeks...and they love thier RubberBs...

The fit at lugs is very nice and really changes the look of the case styles..I have had a few leather straps custom made to sit like that not as good of course but similar in terms of sitting higher to cover the edge between the lugs and filling the length of the lugs too... which especially looke dgood for making the watch look more evening style...if that makes sense ;)

I also had one from ABP for my Rad..which really looked good to me anyway ;)

Would love to see that Deep Sea with one on...

  4. Now I know I don't have the balls to do that!

I am not trying to push into trying mate....but I would still recommend you look at the HowTos etc...so when you are dealing with watchsmiths etc you will know what is involved and time it should take and most importantly the value of the work relative to what the guy might want to charge you... and if you get into a conversation he will know you have some idea even if you wouldnt do it yourself :)

Also if something similar happens again you will be more savy about whether it is a serious issue or not and in tun know how to deal with getting matter resolved and likely cost etc .. :)

  5.

Great info mate thanks...and seeing some of those Beatles albums reminds of what I have sitting in my loft... I should dig them out...and have a listen..I cant remember what it is like to hear the sound of vinyl playing or indeed mono ! :)

But I think I missed something from there...you mentioned Pan-Am...

".....Of course, due to Pan Am's familiarity with airplanes (Pan Am was an airline, after all), Perspex was an obvious (& readily accessible off-the-shelf) choice for the GMT's insert."

What did they have to do with your comments please?

Sweet little red hand bag in that post too :)

  6. I thought this was all done...blimey time flies I remember when it all started on there and the months that followed...

I dont know why I thought that now ...

It is looking very nice.... I saw a new model from MkII yesterday and was thinking about this watch was thinking I still prefferred this one... :)

I am looking forward to the wristies from you guys...and the big grins when you do !! :)

  7. Well done mate :)    Good to see you join up :)

You see there is a great incentive apart from the above to upgrade and its very cheap to do it and also you can do it monthly for just a couple of bucks :)
  8. learned its a scam...deleted and moving on :D

Glad to hear its sorted mate :)

First one I have heard on here...but I have seen it reported on websites... seems they do the same with other couriers too... so you think you have a package of value and of course you know you aint but your curiousness or greed or both sort of lures you into falling for it as genuine.. :)

My son keeps getting variations of a Police email saying he has been using illegal sites for downloads and games etc and he will be prosecuted and his computer shut down if he doesnt send a £100 fine to the link in the email..

The first time he got one his face was a picture !! Of course at his age he thought it was real and also that guilt all young teenagers have when questioned about what they have searched and looked for on the internet !!

He was really paniking...I so enjoyed questioning him and winding him up a bit more.... I think it may of don some good for him as he aint as busy on it as he used to be.. ;)

  9. The Swedish customs gotten ridiculous tight last year.

I've had to pay import tax on everything sent from a non-EU country.

It doesn't matter what's in the package, they don't open it, just want a receipt or proof of purchase to release it, and then you have to pay tax and crap.

When I order reps I just show them the PayPal amount and pay the tax. I rather want the watch and kind of expect the watch to cost more and pay the tax instead of them opening the package and sending the lawyers after me.

It seems to be a common approach across EU more and more... Even UK has changed... the processes and methods plus thresholds etc have all changed....

Unlike Sweden though it can be hit and miss if they get their hands on it... which can surprise some guys who say get 2-4 watches previously over the year and then bang get smacked for surcharges etc on one and then cant understand why...

I think those copyright enforcement agencies are still there at our customs... but it is funny as they only look for specific brands of reps so if they catch say a Graham they will let it through but if it is a PAM then as its Richemont..they keep it...

And at this time of year we get more part time staff in mail service (RM/PF) and they dont mind lifting the odd package especilly if it has a look or feel that suggests what it is or maybe...

I dont think any dealers send in toys etc anymore but it may be a good idea around this time and especially if you are in a busy and/or large town or city... :)

  10. Ok, since i had a problem with a "1:1" BR03 Type Aviation (real disappointment!), i brought it down to a shop mentioned in RWI forum once and struck up a conversation.  He's working out or temporary premises for now but says that once he gets back to his old shop location, he'll set up his waterproof tester thingamajik.  That should be 6 months from now.  So maybe no swimming with the watches for now...

He outsources any 7750 movement work, and says local smiths are abit "hit-and-miss" for this movement.  He said he may consider sending movements overseas for servicing.  Don't know if he's proficient with other movements but i notice he does carry alot of movements and parts.

Well, anyway, if you need some basic work done cheap with a rep friendly 'smith, then PM me and i'll give you his contact.

Thats good to hear mate...that you are striking out and willing to share :) Appreciate it :)

With Spin mate...be a little more patient mate... especially at this time of year.... you can imagine how many emails he gets...and how many time wasters...then other issues that email can generate..going to spam folders... etc plus on top of that work load...personal life... etc etc He may even have posted somewhere or someone posted for him that he wont be getting abck into till x date etc :)

I am sure he will reply ... I normally wait a week maybe longer to get a reply then if not I just resend it rather than spend a few lines saying how I had already tried contacting..it can come across wrong and isnt really relevant... ;)

Give him a few more days mate... and you will be swimming in no time :) :)

  11. They appear to be aiming for the very end seller who's trying to pass them off as genuine, which I've got no problem with them being taken down.

Me neither mate...but unfortunately the net thats cast can be less discerning.. :)

And I wont tell you the story of how it can be misused... not in public anyway.. ;)

    got mine too?

I use forum name jungssyang in RWI.

    I like it !...the same...but different..... :);)

  12. The inserts used in the 6542 were Perspex, not bakelite. Bakelite is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, an early plastic and the name was misplaced on other plastics. Perspex, a Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) transparent thermoplastic,  is a brand name for an acrylic plastic, others being Plexiglass, Lucite, Optix and more. Modern acrylics are not as brittle as they were initially.

Lexan is the brand name for polycarbonate resin thermoplastic. It is used for many things including bullet resistance canopies for fighter aircraft.

And, of course, worn by the more discerning Rolex 6542 owner.  :whistling:

Great...Thanks mate.... so just so the less discerning amongst us can be sure  :)... generally there was no clear bakelite? And regardless that comment in the link is just incorrect and likely for same reason you explain in your post.....just a misplaced name

So again just so I am clear ;).... you would treat that insert in the same way you would a plexi glass...say in terms of refurbing etc?

Now my last question and probably the most important one..

Do you know any "more discerning 6542" wearers that I could contact to discuss further.... :) :) ;)

Thanks again though :) Always learning .....  :)

  13. No mate from Sweden... No lurking please.. :) I did that and got arrested !! :) :)

Have a read of some of the guides here in this section at the top ....it will help you understand some simple ways to use this forum...

And once you get your watches why not post them? It would be great to see them and see new members getting involved... the more guys here the more experience and knowledge we get :)

Also posting pics on here is much much easier than on any other forum and you dont need to PB or compress and pics stay large rather than small like other forums ;)

If you need help using that tool just ask :) for when you get your new watches :) Just PM me or post a thread in the photgraphy section :)

Welcome mate...I hope you stick around on here :)

And remember if you want to stick around or just use this place as well... if you up grade your membership you can get many more features and access much more info and advice...and of course you can post in the trade section too !!

And if you go to the general discussion forum and look at this thread

  14. I have never seen any like this with rounded end and under fit... looks quite nice or rather sleek.. but blimey they are some price for non oem and vulcanised rubber always makes me sweat more under the strap... but a lot of Rolex guys swear by these RubberBs on gen forums...

Would like to see a wristie with this .. it looks like it might force the watch base off the top of your wrist given the thickness or look of it in those pics underneath.. though that could be the angle.. :)

the link shows the other cases like LM etc but I need to search for a wristie...they even do them with "go faster" stripes !! :)

I generally never like the rubber on a PAM accept a few of late on some 47s with the accordion strap... but still $250 ...blimey !!

I wonder if they will do a deplyant version like they do on Rolex's

    Thanks for sharing ... :)

Yet more strap options...Its bad enough buying the watches gen or rep...but the straps can cripple you if you get carried away !! :)

  15. Hi PeteM, thanks for that reassuring response. Yes, I got QC pics. In fact, I rejected the first one cos of marks I see on the case. The second one's QC pics seemed ok. I'm certainly gonna try to get it done by a local watchsmith, if possible, and seek concessions thereafter from TD. TD has suggested I go to a particular mall with quite a few watchshops. I'm asking him to be specific about which shop. Fingers crossed about getting a good resolution for this... You reckon I should ask him for a discount with my next purchase to take into account the repair cost? Is that "kosher"?

Hi Ssteel, I'm in Singapore. The watch came with another 3 watches and looked fine in the QC. The other watched seemed to be ok save for a Chopard MM XL chrono where the plate with the engraved map attached to the centre of the case back fell off. Which brings me to my next question... How do you glue the engraved plate back on the case back securely?

I just don't seem to have any luck with this TD. Had to send a Rollie project 6241 back to him cos they gave me the one with the wrong dial and the bezel insert came off. It's been awhile and it's still not reached the Chinese address yet...

    No probs mate :)

I would suggest if you find or use a strange place... that you stay with it if you can mayb booked his time and return with it so you can..but I am sure that there will be guys that can help you on this forum as many guys are from where you are... but sinmaster is a modder there if you have no joy locally...

As for discount..most dealers try to avoid that if they can and never haggle so to speak :) But assuming you want to use the guy again given your other issues ;) as a discount shouldnt be a big incentive if you may have other concerns.. ;) however it has happened to us all and to most dealers even the ebst of them so its always hard to judge the worth of a dealer on the strength of the watches alone..its more how they respond and communicate after you have raised the problem you have that matters.. to me anyway. ;)

I would probably suggest you ask for free shipping rather than a discount... :)

Which ever way you go mate...good luck :)

  16. You know in your Interests you put down "Collecting Ectsacy pills"? Are a few of em missing? :D

I never like to keep more than 2 of any particular tab in my collection..... :);)

I spent the other day eating a whole sheet of blotting paper ...till I realised it was blotting paper...

  17. Oh I'm sick of their little cards or letters, "You need to pay BLOOD, SWEAT and TEARS cause the fat cat wants a new solid gold butt plug!"

I wonder if there's any EU country where they don't check US mail as much as the UK?

Just need a friend there then who can ship to the UK :)

    Ireland .. :)

  18. My bad, it was not addressed to you in specific, should have quoted better.

Thanks for the input! (all of you).

I think I will go with Noob, and later on get some other bits and pieces to mod it.

No worries mate...of late guys seem to be reacting to my posts..I guess I am just a bit sensitive because I dont know what I am saying or if its the way I am saying it ... is for some reason producing exclamation or some sort of competitive reaction...and I never intend to do that in anything I write...

Nor do I seek it ...its all about sharing and  expressing all our views or opinions... so for me in most cases related to these great watches there is no black or white ..just grey .. :)

I think thats a good choice overall mate and I am sure you will love it....

My only word of caution would be the time of year... consider the method etc for the shipping ...
