  1. Sometimes though that journey isnt possible. Due to parts no longer made etc or due to personal circumstances. The sum of its parts might not be the driver in buying but the parts itself.

Or with the intention to take the watch further despite its current state of franken or modding.

I still say this world, this hobby can be and/or is all things to all men.

I think also the difficulty for us noobies is the lack of suitable parts being made readily available if they are that is, from my experience so far a lot of the good stuff is passed around through contacts rather than on sales forums. This is due to relationships between members and their knowledge of what those members have what they want etc. Its almost an underground network or inner circle so to speak.

Now I am not criticising that, its understandable given the way these relationships work and time creates these. I know guys on here that phone or PM, EM etc each other while searching for parts or even dealers etc they dont have to wait or certainlly get the heads up before these parts appear on the sales section. Again a lot of guys dont know how to do this except by 'cold calling' other members but as I have found on here and elsewhere this isnt very productive.

So I can empathise with some guys who buy out of frustration rather than laziness, though those guys do exist, so I dont think there is any objective view to this debate.

Now I am not talking about TST's watch but generally. I myself have bought watches that I dont want per se but do want the parts with the idea of interchanging, I am sure a lot of us do.

  2. this may sound like a dumb question - and prob is - but is there a way to tell if the AR is on the outside without purposely trying to scratch it?...

Pete and i were chatting tonight - and we both laughed - it could be that the blue AR visible on my PAM 036 is on the inside and that the outer was stripped already?!...but then again, i don't think it's been stripped based on it history...its the old skool model that's been discontinued...

i'm just playing/learning with this stripping exercise...totally agree with you Lani!...

I think a chisel will make you sure mate :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Dont worry as long as chisel is really sharp any ruts or scoring will buff right out........Honest ;)

  3. It looks like the Palp will have the same amount of teeth, same beveling, but will give you the option of dish depth :D, and may even be available in a spring loaded version :D :D

Oh, and it is priced lower, well was priced lower before T announced his special pricing.

Thanks Doc what about the teeth themselves how sharp and deep are they compared to T Crown?

  4. It depends on the watch and how really good the rep is. But I don't think I would spend more than $500 on any one rep at all.

I own a gen Rolex Seadweller that I spent $5,000....I know it's a gen and love it.

The Reps to me are for variety and I can't see spending much more for a rep...but with that said....

If there was a rep of a Rolex Daytona that was perfect with the rehaut and all.....i'd be tempted to spend under a grand to really have something special...

Or like a really amazing two tone rolex with solid gold end links and gold that isn't plated...I'd spend more and close to one grand on that...it all depends.

I've yet to see a two tone model stay looking good and be solid gold...if they can do that on a Rolex Two Tone...i'll be in line...so far it's been folklore...and also a Daytona with a correct rehaut and movt that isn't laden with problems...

So in summary...it depends on the watch and the person who wants to wear it or sell it...

Shouldnt this be in the want to buy section!!! :D

  5. You see to me this isnt just about reps or about getting them close to gens. Its about something I enjoy a hobby a pastime its something that challenges me that can satisfy me that can disappoint me and here I can share.

I used to mod cars and bikes I spent a fortune on them when I sold I lost money generally not always though. So I would break it up and sell the modded parts seperately I got more back that way.

So if TST broke up that watch he would still make a good size of that value back but he wants to keep it as a semi completed piece so then you can throw in labour.

This rep world means different things to different people so your question has no answer its subjective not objective mate.

We all came here for different reasons and we all stay here for different reasons.

Its like a recent thread on WTB a guy searching for a supermodded/franken PAM for $2000, thats what its worth to that guy but not to others.

  6. Maybe you should ask TST why.

But at the end of the day he is looking for what he thinks its worth or what it owes him.

The buyer will buy it for whatever he feels its worth to him as we all do.

Some people are out there who dont want the hassle but want the kudos in the rep world.

    Its a market economy.

Your comments could be made about gens.... its all about kudos not value

Personally I wouldnt pay that for a ready made rep but I might spend that on making my 'perfect' rep

  7. thanks, Chief...i'll desist from trying and put up with the blue hue for now - and ask Z to strip it off when he re-lumes it...the blue hue really is annoying with the tobacco dial - kinda muddies up the look...

Not sure what your using mate with SS polish or how but Chiefs AR came off with it.

Are you sure its on the side your cleaning off??

  8. Ask any woman how to remove nail polish with nail polish remover. The procedure is the same. Pure ammonia (from your local supermarket) removes AR on eyeglass lenses similarly. - easy & fast.

Funny but I tried that first on DSN rep AR but it wasnt very good took a lot of rubbing. The SS poilsh took it straight off
