  1. thank you Ken, I appreciate your response and stand corrected. I had thought the scammers section was mostly for sellers on here and dealers. I will be more careful next time. thanks again.
  2. well I realise that this might be slightly inflammatory , but I want to understand why the mods moved a post I put up, asking for help to save some poor bugger from buying a very low-quality replica rep on Ebay Australia. It is currently listed at $360 USD with a day to go... I was hoping a little pressure from ebay might help. The post was moved, without any reason given, to the Breitling area (yes it is a Breitling rep). I really don't see how this is an exclusively "Breitling" issue however?? What it is; is a great way to kill a thread and any chance there was of saving someone from getting scammed. Now look, I don't presume to try to tell mods how to run their site, particularly as a relative noob to RWG. But as a financial contributor, I would think that I would at least get some response from when I respectfully enquired about it being moved. So I also realise that I will probably be blacklisted here for asking this publicly , but I tried it through the proper, more respectful avenues. So I guess I'm after some concensus. If I was wrong to start a thread like that to save someone being scammed, I apologise. But my understanding of this community and what makes it stand out from some of the others and part of the reason I pay to be a member, includes the integrity and way that everyone here functions as a community and 'gives a [censored]'. If that's not the case, and I am wrong, then it's just another forum of information... I hope that by posting here, I will get a better understanding of the why's and what is okay to post here. matt
  3. its unbelieveable hey. I've reported t 3 times and sent a generic email to ebay. Can you imagine being stoked that you've just won a Breitling watch for such a small amount, and then when you see it, realise youve paid $400 for a piece of [censored], low-quality rep that you could buy new from a dealer for $80... poor bugger indeed! thanks guys. mg
  4. I agree, most people would. But so far it is up to about $230 USD -with still 3 days to go. I don't think anyone would pay that for a beat-up rep, do you? We know what it should look like and the telling signs, but it's the few who don't that I would be worried for. Breitling is listed in the subject line, albeit in (brackets). Again, obvious to most, but it's the unexpetcing punter that I'm looking out for...
  5. Hi team, I found this when searching for a vintage breit. The listing hints at it being a rep; advertised as "silver watch (with Breitling written on the inside)". But still, I don't think anyone would pay $255 (current bid) for a broken rep... I emailed the guy to ask if it was real and where he bought it. He told me he wasn't sure, but it looks real to him. Said he got it from an auction I have emailed ebay to report a fraud, but as usual, they are reluctant to act. I reported on Saturday and it is now Tuesday morning here. There is 3 three days left on the listing, so I'd appreciate some help in applying some pressure Here is the listing: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310209651509&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Thanks in advance mg
  6. + 2 and Amen to that! Love the simplicity factor. And as you say, if I was going to spend the top $$$ I would add a gen. For mine, the Breitling Navitimer I bought from Josh ($350) has that heavy, well constructed feel. Far as I'm concerned, it does 'feel' like the gen Navi. It's my favourite watch for that reason (including my gens). Pretty keen on the steelfish having heard such great things about it on here. In saying that, I've been so amazed with a recent purchase from Watcheden, a $128 Omega Seamaster with the blue markers etc. and cheap asian auto. It has a few minor QC issues, but it has a very nice feel, smooth bracelet and great crystal etc. Amazing what you can pick up for such a small amount of $$ Happy buying mate! mg In saying that
  7. Hey Dean, I got my beauty from Joshua (Perfect-Hour). Got the 12-9-6 configuration with the A7750. So happy with it mate. I had a problem with the first one sent, and Joshua was fantastic to deal with. Sent a replacement immediately. -That's the kind of service that you want when buying your dream watch, given all the QC issues that we face in this hobby. Best of luck with it!!! mg
  8. +2 Strange as this might sound, I bought a strap that I just loved. It has sat by my bedside for a few months now, until I finally decided to buy the Panerai 111 to put it on. I hated them before coming to RWG. But seeing all those beautiful straps that you guys have made me spend hours looking at them. I can't wait to get this one. Haven't been that excited about a new arrival for... well... a couple of months. love the thread too. Seems like this is a subi/pam breeding ground mg
  9. only person flamed here was the sales assistant. Good on you!!! I can't stand that attitude and like the others, I will only give my business to someone who is polite and friendly. It doesn't take much to show people a littel respect. If they can't do that, then I think your approach might have taught a little lesson that needed to be learned... I hate it when people think they are better than others
  10. I share your thoughts that the field is pretty narrow with the trusted dealers. In saying that, I am so grateful for that list and the community support, so that we can get what we pay for and with some certainty. I do buy some from other sites though, as part of the fun is the hunt and the punt... More to the point Vilan, welcome back to the forum! I'm only a new member here, but it's great to know that after so many years someone who was a founding member is back and active in the 'game'. mg
  11. Nice one. Agree. with class -as you say. Is he known as Xslyxx on all those forums?? Or do we need to be looking out for others? team up mg
  12. like with any other community, if there is a criminal, then why not chase them out. Give us all his personal details. I'd love to give the guy a call. I'm sure between all the members we could find a few friends near by to knock on his door Whether the watch was posted or not isn't the issue anymore. After all the angst and poor/inconsistent communication, hte seller is clearly at fault. Out the bast*#d please. mg
  13. thanks to the mods, good to know you are on top of it! As a famous Australian politician said -Keep the bast*#ds honest... mg
  14. haha, I'm with Deniz, got caught out at work last week when I was meeting with one of my team. I looked down at my new and fav wtach, the Navi. and he said to me "ah, sorry -you've got a meeting". I said oh no, just thought of something happening at another branch. I was too embarassed to tell him I was perving at my beautiful watch. Didn't even look at the hands... mg
  15. thanks Lani, appreciate your reply. I know the joy of a good rep (go through Joshua for the good ones, following your advice), but I wouldn't have bought this watch in preference to others, so I thought for the price it was worth a gamble (Pam is next on the list...) When I saw these cheapies, I thought I'd see what you get for those bucks? It is obviously as you say a low-grade, but overall, I'm so impressed with the quality. I've bought many crappy reps over the years, but this Ome is pretty sweet. I know it's stupid, but I have to save & justify (to my wife & myself) when I buy a gen, or a $300 rep, but if I buy 3 $100 reps, it seems more acceptable Stupid I know. But I'm impatient! I have tried and tried with both of our cameras to get some pics as you asked. Both cameras are pretty good quality -although automatics. So the common denominator is me I'm going to have to read the photo tips on here so I can do my collection justice. I have thought more overnight and decided that I'll let this one go through. The flaws are minor. I guess I should have asked a more open ended question, like what makes people send their watches back -e.g. what's good enough? thanks again for your reply mate mg
  16. What is that Nunuq?? Sorry, I'm sure it's a dumb question, but I have no idea???
  17. I reckon you're onto there OS. I love the rep world because it amazes me what can be done undercover in a chinese factory, just how accurate they can be. I also just love these little beauties and I couldnever afford to have all the watches I have and will aquire if they were all gens. It's funny, that my favourite watch is my rep Navi (just new). I was more excited finding it, getting it, looking at it when I first wake up/when I'm at work/when I'm driving than any other watch I own, including any of my gens. I think it's the whole experience that is fascinating. Much more so that just walking into a shop and handing over the $$. or mine anyway
  18. Hi team, I'm keen to know what your opinions/advice would be about my latest arrival. I ordered an Omega Seamaster from one of the recommended dealers and it has arrived with some pretty minor QC issues, namely very minute scratch/smear on the inside wall of the face (under the crystal) and some inconsistency around the paint on the markers. The watch itself is a cheapie (e.g. circa $100). It's the SS seamaster with the blue hands & markers, with an "asian automatic" movement (whatever that is??). It is in every other sense an absolutely beautiful watch. It has the glass back, with the movement engraved with the correct markings, the bracelet moves freely, and the srew down crown feels reasonably steady etc. etc. It's amazing what you can buy for 100 bucks! It was my curiosity that led me to buy it in the first place, in order to see what could be bought for this money. So my question is, does anyone think I should be contacting the dealer about these minor issues? What would you do? I think for the $$$ it's great and not worth the hassle. Before I found RWG, I would have been satisfied with this and just accepted it, but now I wonder... I am typically a grateful buyer and appreciate the dealings I've had with recommended dealers on here already, but the question remains?? Keen to hear your thoughts, mg
  19. well mate, I'm afrid I fall into the "born late" category... Don't know if it's an Aussie thing, but I always seem to be running late for everything. Must admit though, if it's something that requires someone's time, which is costing them money (e.g Dr. business meetings) I wouldn't dare waste their money/time. Takin t easy, mg
  20. yeah, I just leave it at "thanks, it's a real passion of mine -love watches". If they want to know more, and enquire about legitimacy of the watch, I say I have some gens and some fakes; make your own mind up. If they are intrigued/impressed with the quality, then perhaps they are a candidate for conversion into this world... I think it's nice to be able to share this enjoyment with friends and fam. Talked my sis and brother in law into one last night, since they have been so impressed with my latest purchase from Joshua. I think people asking if the watch is a fake fall into 2 categories; 1. they are having a go at you personally 2. they are genuinely interested in watches and the possibility of replicating gens. If they are "2's", then I give them some time to try and help grow their appreciation. If they are "1's", then... I think if you love your watch and you're not trying to pretend to be something/one you're not, then you've got nothing to be ashamed of -wear it with pride!!! mg
  21. Man, just yesterday I was in this position. I went into a dealer looking for a first watch for my little God daughters (trying to start the passion early in life)first day of school. I had my new Breit Navi on and couldn't help but stop to look at the Tag's and the Longines that I have on the way... The saleswoman was falling over herself to assist me. "looking to buy yourself another watch sir...". To be honest I didn't even think about having a rep on -as I normally think it's the little obsession in my head that others are unaware of Afterwards I thought it was probably a little silly to have had it on. But then had I thought about it, I don't know what I would have done. I don't think I would have taken it off? Not ashamed of having a rep on. Perhaps if I was being an arrogant ass, then I might think differently, but hey, I love the watch I had on and gen, or rep, I'm proud of it! As far as confiscating it goes, they have no authority to do this whatsoever, other than under "common law". But I would like to see some AD try to take one of my watches off my wrist Good thread! mg
  22. hey Dean, you should follow Lani's advice in my opinion and check out Joshua's site perfect-hour. Just got my Navi back today *so stoked* from him, after searching for the right one and right dealer for years. It was worth the wait. The model you have picked out here with the Chronos at 3,6,9 has the date wheel sunken much deeper than the same version navi with the chronos at 6,9,12. Joshua sells the same watches, with the Valjoux 7750, for less than what you have found. But why I went through him for this one is that I wanted it to be perfect and as Tonio said, a cheap navi looks like s**t. Joshua has the best service and will fix any problems you have; that has been my experience. Check out that site and see what you think?? mg
  23. Prayers are coming from Australia for little Ella, you and your family. Glad to hear during this tough time your you are finding strength in His faith in you. mg
  24. Lani, I believe you opened this discussion up with integrity and it was responded to in the same spirit -kudos. As you point out, it affects all fora, given the likeness and to an even greater extent, the shared membership. If nothing else, it's good to reiterate the openness and transparency of managing funds to keep communities such as this alive. I mentioned once before (but 'shouted' it) I signed up as a member based on the welcome I got from members here and particularly from yourself! I think it's great that it's open for information to be had by anyone, but once you are made to feel like a part of a community, then you begin to assume resonsibility for it. That's what you and some of the other great members on here do for newcomers. If any needed evidence of how supportive this community is, they would only have to look at how so many members (having followed your lead) have chipped in to build a watch for a long-term member, just because... *respect* So cheers , and good on you for starting this thread! mg
  25. Dont despair burst, you're not alone. Going through the same process at the moment (including the explanation to the wife...). It's frustrating, but hopefully when all is done, the perfect watch is enough to help us forget about the pain! Mine lasted 2 days of working sporadically. Hope it all works out for you mate. mg
