new mods just finished and pics next to my gen.
babola replied to flavor flav's topic in The Panerai Area
Hmm, he or she will be a one happy customer for sure...great results Flav ! Noticed how the hour hand sits a bit lower on gen ? Do Panerai use 'special' cannon pin/hour wheel set ?!?!? Hmmm... cheers, babola -
Ti models - maybe, S/S not quite - my 111H rep looks the 'same' as the gen in that respect, and the dial is closer to the xtal compared to my 177H Ti. Two rep cases, two standards :-) cheers, babola

I'd say Logo Base, or maybe Ti Base ?
-
Just slightly wipe the dial entirely (including txt) - ever so slightly though, making sure you don't press on the dial. Great effort ! cheers, babola

Maybe I should have said: Warning ! Individual results may vary ! Honestly, no brown or dirty 'film' on my dial, I compared it afterwards with my other sandwich dial and it looked identical, except for the darkened dial txt. I didn't so much "smudge the tar around", just very lightly wiped the dial with the cotton bud, like the one women use as a make-up remover, it accentuated the ivory color of the text and no dirt or brown tar layer were left on the dial, well not visible one, anyway. It also preserved that matte finish, H-series PAM dials are known for. I'm currently in Europe for few more weeks, so no pics of my 111H to be posted yet. I only took my Logo Base with me. cheers, babola

Paul stil AWOL ?

I wouldn't use any liquid in direct touch with the dial...but that's just me. I've used proven technique of 'desensitizing' the crisp white txt to a nice off-white/cream/salmon color that's alnost 100% match with the gen. Just ask Flavor Flav, he's just finished re-luming it Basically, take a mid size glass jar, put a paper towel or similar on the bottom and place the dial on it facing up. Then find a cigar, or a cigarette from which you've removed filter first. Take a smoke, mouthful, and exhale SLOWLY into the jar. As soon as you fill the jar with the smoke replace the cap. Leave it like that for 15-20mins. At first you won't be able to observe much due to a heavy concentration of smoke, but after few minutes the smoke will settle, creating a micro layer of cigar tar. Remove the dial from the jar. You may be dissapointed with the result straight away asking yourself was it all worth the trouble, but don't despair - all you need to do is wipe the dial with a cotton bud or make-up remover pad (ever so slightly), and the tar from the dial will be evenly distributed across it, 'contaminating' the white txt letter to a shade mentioned above. Do not push that pad into the dial as you're likely to end up with a polished look, a definite no-no on gen PAMs of recent era. Don't forget to do this procedure ALWAYS BEFORE re-luming, as the numerals and bar indices on the lower sandwich layer will also get contaminated. Also, make sure you remind the person doing the re-lume job to scrap the old dirty lume before he or she applies the new one. Good luck, ...and you just own me $50 for this "how to" cheers, babola

FYI, his 'ultimate' Fiddy will be again available from end of May. cheers, babola

Man, that GMT rocks ! Just out of interest what lume mix did Rob use this time, if not a secret ? cheers, babola
-
It's PAM089 Ti, he's been wearing it for some time now. cheers, babola

California txt on top of the dial is definitely wrong, as it doesn't come on a gen. Case engraving between top lugs says - "Opus Facere", and between bottom lugs - "Panerai". Nice watch, very exotic looking vintage dial, and confusing to some cheers, babola

Paul's (Wo-Mart) 111G comes with the latest upgraded E-series Swiss ETA movement. Andrew's (Trusty) 111G still comes with an inferior Asian/Swiss ETA 6497 mov't, also referred to as ETA 'hybrid'. Wo_Mart 111G shouldn't be compared to Andrew's, but Joshua's (www.perfect-clones.com) 111G he currently offers. It is basically the same watch. As for your dealer preference...some people go with Paul based on his drop-pants prices, some prefer security they get with Joshua or Andrew. I used to source some of my reps from Paul, until one order went sour...you're on your own then on, buddy. hope this helps, babola

"New Panerai moddels have been released" ...yes, sadly... I'll stick to my old collection, most of my PAM reps are more Panerai than most of the gen Panerai watches these days. Sorry guys, but Bonati is not only 'loosing it', he's completely lost it. The real PAM afficionados will know what I mean by this. babola

Feel the power of the BASE brothers... All I can say - excellent work, although the final product is a complete mixed bag of gen and rep spare parts from different PAM Series, the final product just blows me away. Simple understated dial, uncomplicated raw movement, lume appearance and quality on par with the gen, sapphire glass etc...simply beautiful ! This is what Panerai watch should be all about, tool utalitarian watch in its roots...rattrapante, turbuillon, XX-days complications, gold plating and other watchamajigs should be left to other brands, IMO Keep 'em coming mate ! babola

Great stuff mate, let me see if I got it all correct: destro Marina is either a gen or sporting a gen dial...003 comes with gen dial, and gen case ?(Jymmy Fu maybe ?), 112i is a gen, and that Fer chrono must be one of the nicest PAM reps ever produced out of the box. cheers, enjoy your collection ! babola

Unfortunatelly we've seen this before...111H reps are selling like hotcakes anyway...no need for rep makers to 'fix' any of those evident flaws...and most of us know - there are many flaws on current 111H, just ask Flav I believe the current sandwich dial 111 version is it's last...they may come up with thicker CG at some stage, but I doubt it, that will just unnecessarily increase already tight production cost. Our only 'hope' is some other rep factory comes with MKII version, similar to current 44mm Ti PAM offering where 036 still comes in diferent case/crown/CG config from other 'standard' ones like 118 or 177. In general, the PAM reps are getting better every day, the new and updated models like 092, 239, 243, Ferrari etc are all much better made, and with greater attention to details compared to their older counterparts...unfortunatelly all powered by Asian mov'ts and none of them really appeals to me, so I'm still waiting for that perfect PAM_historic. Who knows, one day maybe...:-) cheers, babola

Guess you won't be buying a Pam-Fer gen then... Unfortunately, 'real Pam geeks' don't buy much into Pam Ferraris , although a very nice and well made reps. cheers, babola

Just received PMs from 2 members in same situation as you...they said Paul's "personal assistant" send them an email advising he will be back on board on 18th April...fingers crossed, eh! Still doesn't explain total absence of his 'wo-mart' domain name from name servers cheers, babola
-
His web site name has 'dissapeared' from the DNS servers as well...it's been like that for the last 3 days...that on top of his indefinite leave message he posted on main Web site page, hmm...something's fishy, for sure. :-( cheers, babola
-
@Tim FYI, your photo shows Swiss ETA 6497-1 movement, not Asian. cheers, babola

001 and 002B reps are some of the best PAM reps ever made, period FYI, PAM001 was made in pre-A, A, B, C and D-series (OPII mov't)...replaced in E-series with PAM111 with E-series mov't (OPXI) and display caseback. The most treasured ones are T-dial 001's from pre-A, A, and transitional B-series. babola

Don't have to be an expert to spot this one cheers, babola
