  1. I'm thinking the same thing, they're aftermarket and not gen end links.

Tribal has the best idea if the lug holes are indeed off. Good luck there!

Either you have poorly made (after-market) endlinks or your case was improperly made. My gen 93150/580/2mm springbar combo fits my MBW 1665 just fine without any modifications of any kind

Maybe The Zigmeister could post pics of your end links?

  2. Allthough every Rolex fan has a 16610, in my case it seems it is the one with the less wrist time.

So I decided to go for it today :)

Believe it or not Stephane, as much of a Rolex nut as I am -I don't own one

The only modern Rolex I used to own some 10+ years ago was a gen GMT II.

  3. RH,

FYI, if those are the CWP hands they won't fit an ETA movement, they're made for Rolex 15xx movements and are a totally different size.

You can get similar hands from MkII Watches for an ETA, but only in white lume.

Man... This whole search is like beating my head on a wall. It pretty much seems to get a snowflake Tudor sub you kinda have to buy an older one and then fix it up, which will add like another $300-500 to the cost of one.

I have a great vintage military rolex bond sub from UncleJay. I was thinking of just putting these hands on it (replacing the mercedes hands)

That would be similar, and would only cost $65 + shipping instead of getting a whole new damn watch :) And it's still ETA powered. What do you guys think?

  4. Jetsons, I really want to see someone make a nice 6542...I bet you could do it ;)

XRT, I'm very jealous of your collection! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Saabin built a 6542 with the same Paul case. Great results!

I've been trying to build a 1675 with the Silix watch too. The case seems to be the correct thickness -or should I say thiness. The lug holes are okay drilled out, they are ever so slightly a bit to the outer edge. I'll try and snap some updated pix in the next few days. Here' an old pix before I worked on the lug holes and case, the bezel is next. The darn case won't take a gen dial though

  5. Hi guys

Do you think it would be wise to start with something like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Scarce-94110-Rolex-Tud...1QQcmdZViewItem

And just replace the crystal & hands?

Or would it just be better to get the one from Phong on jewelryandwatch?

    Thank you

It really depends on your budget RH. A gen will go up in value, a rep won't. I can tell you the Snowflake models are going for more than the standard sub dialed Tudors, but I still see some selling for under $2000 on timezone occasionally. Condition, how original the parts are and accessories play a big part in the cost too.

The crystal looks fine on the ebay auction, perhaps just a swap of the hands. If you look around and are patient you can find a gen set of axe hands.

  6. If you're right about the GMT's going up recently along with the rest of the vintage world, then I may have to look at at switching to an Explorer if something were to materialize with the vietnamese thing. I like the McQueen better than the GMT, but figured that if the GMT's were still half-way reasonable, then it would make more sense to do the economical thing. The rep gods would never allow such a thing, I should've realized... :p

Your point about how sometimes you can find yourself with an extra watch is something I have experienced too. Sometimes in the parts collections phase, I'll end up with duplicate parts for whatever reason. I realized a while back that I could've put together a fully modded DRSD just with spare parts. I thought long and hard about it, but decided in the end that the cost of actually putting it all together would've been too expensive.

Awesome work, and I'm looking forward to what may come in the future...

Mezz, were you thinking of an NDT 1675 case for a GMT? Maybe it's just the photos but the crown guards look like a sub and seem way off. Maybe there'll be a rev2 on it with improvements. Until then I'm stuch with my budget Silix 1675, I just have to work on the bezel now and that's about as much time and energy I want to spend on that piece.

  7. UJ, that is the 6542 that was made for PanAm desk pilots, something like 100 pieces made -don't quote me on that number. Truly a Holy Grail for collectors.

I think think Michael Young at CWP would make that dial for you and NDT sells the case. Not sure what movement would fit though?? -someday!

  8. Thanks for all the kind words gents! I have narrow tastes -what can I say.

Mezz, I know what you mean. I certainly didn't plan on having so many sub styles. The explorer dial 5513 was a what the hell I have an MBK case I spent all this time modding and its just sitting in the parts box, do something with it....

Collections do take funny turns at times.

Gen 1675's aren't much of a reasonable value any longer I've noticed over the last 6-9 months, they're all selling for 5513 prices as well. Now some of the transitional 16750 are still decent buys.
