  1. Great read and wonderful shot... Now where oh where can I score a mini-sub of my own?... my wife's been joking that I'd have a rollie on my daughters wrist before she's three... with that mini-sub, it would be possible.
  2. spring could be hung up upon itself... shortening its overall length, causing it to run fast. A somewhat solid thump dial down into your palm followed by a somewhat solid thump dial up in to your palm will often free the sticking point.... that being said, my watchmaking skills don't even register when compared to The Zigmeister and several others... perhaps one of the more knowledgeable will chime in.
  3. A while back I started to become interested in MB fountainpens... I looked at the reps and decided it would be easier to buy one gen (used) MB for the price of 2 or 3 reps... Did a bit of digging and found that many many wonderful Gen pens can be had for prices not much higher than the reps... And anyone who uses a nice fountain pen knows the Nib is everything... I've used reps and they were almost unusable due to scratchy feel and feed issues. A MB that I wanted badly sells in the 50usd range... I found a used Gen for 90usd... well worth the price difference. And much like watches... good pens are made by many many more companies than MB... modern MB's can't hold a candle to Omas and Pelikan and several other makes. So far... the only rep items I've found that have been of usable quality have been watches... i may give some rep clothing a whirl, but I would expect that much like gen stuff... until you get it tailored to actually fit, its going to look like a fancy potato sack. If anyone knows a source for rep Prada mens dress shoes... let me know... the gen pair I want on clearance is still over 500usd... wife would kill me.
  4. Lets see... on vacation till the 12th... that would mean no posting of watches and probably no responses to emails... a backlog would ensue, both of emails and shipments needing to go out. Obviously the time from your order to the 12th can be considered "dead" time... he wasn't around to deal with the order then, so don't count the time. I've always been of the opinion that patience is the best thing one can have in this rep business... a charge back should be the furthest thing from your mind at this point... email him and give it a week... if no response try again... if no response ask a mod to contact him on your behalf... 8 days after order to be considering a charge back is just nuts and a good way to get other dealers to take notice and "blackball" yah. I think you'd find that the average shipping time on our reps is between 9 days and 2 weeks... sometimes longer, sometimes shorter... It also isn't unheard of for dealers to take a couple of days in responding to emails... I think that its safe to say that pretty much everyone else on the forum would feel that you are jumping the gun here.
  5. Maybe its a rep?... or perhaps Breguet just employs rep makers in making its more "modestly priced" watches.
  6. Beautiful watch... good size for a "dressy" watch too... might be the first watch I've seen that I would prefer on leather or rubber to the metal bracelet... I'd have to see it in person to make my final verdict, but the bracelet just overpowers the dial/case IMHO. I'd be down for one if it was done with a decent movement and with good attention to detail.
  7. Its all in what you like... mine is on a carmel color with hints of red now... looks great on the range of brown straps... very light to dark brown all look good in my opinion... I tried black on it for a few minutes and decided it wasn't for me. And your correct.. the 127 does go well with a dress shirt / sport coat in a way the 187 never could.
  8. I'd suggest contact Savage_Here up there... I got my first Savage strap about a month ago and love it. Made to order an priced well below what I would have expected for a custom build.... build quality is fantastic and the leather is robust but nice and soft. Email him with your exact wants (toss of a photo of a leather color on as well) and I'm sure he'll come up with a masterpiece for you. *not a paid endorsement, just a thrilled prior customer*
  9. Man, you guys are brutal... I could be interested in a single button chrono... but I do agree, for ease of reading... Date mag and larger hands would be something I'd prefer.
  10. Only one of those which I see as being realistic to expect anytime soon is the Deep Sea Sea Dweller... I'm guessing the PO is past it's repping "prime" time. And I'm sure the Milgaus will have a few generations of rep done, but it doesn't strike me as having the following of many of the other Rollie watches... but as with many things, I could be wrong.
  11. I do agree... the stock rubber felt a bit "floppy" on my wrist no matter how tight I made it... a nice hunk of leather tamed the beast... Be aware the rubber strap my 187 came with had a 26/24 measurement... so the buckle was only a 24mm. 26mm buckles (non-branded) can be found pretty easily... 26mm branded are quite a bit rarer. So how long before you go after the 127 too?... its also a beautiful watch =)
  12. Not exactly "Loupe stuff"... but can be seen pretty clearly from about 8"... the AR will be a clear giveaway LONG before that point with the logo. The pearl is a somewhat easy fix... get a Gen insert and sand the back down a bit and a drop of epoxy will do the trick. And overall... Yes, the UPO is a fantasic rep for the 45mm... the 4th gen 42mm is the best of that size yet. The Gen dial and hands can fix lots of issues with the watch... a bit pricey, but a wonderful upgrade to a great watch.
  13. +1 I've got one of each variety... all with gen hands... and two with gen dials... (3rd dial will be installed shortly)... I find the most versatile overall and most worn of my three is the black bezel / orange dial... the small bit of orange livens up the watch just a touch, yet still looks good with a suit. I thing the black/white is just a bit too formal... my SSD can fit that bill easily... and the Pumpkin is a great casual watch... the "black widow" as I've heard it called splits the difference nicely.
  14. I can only speak from my experiences... I've got the Ingy (with the AR/datewheel fixed, mine was an older mid '06 watch so no AR from the factory) and the newer version of the VCO... Both are wonderful watches. I agree with the posts above... the Ingy is more casual, and the VCO makes a great dress watch... but in all honesty... which gets more wear? My Ingy, by a long shot.... and the newer version with factory AR? no-brainer, toss on the datewheel and your good to go. I do however stare adoringly at the VCO at least once a week and think to myself "Self, You should really wear that one more... its beautiful".
  15. WOW... our resident King of all things Bling doesn't like the Versace?... How about if they threw a bunch of diamonds on em? J/K =) And believe it or not JFreeman420, they are actually pretty steep in price for what you get.... I agree they "should" be about 100$... but what they "are" is a different story. Shame though.. they make some nice suits and cuff-links... the rest of their stuff I'm not a fan of.
  16. I have no idea why I hit that link... I knew in the bottom of my heart that it wouldn't go anywhere (except perhaps farm-animal-pronz)... but I clicked it anyhow. I know I'm not the only one. I usually just troll the Cartel sites... they seem to post up the new toys pretty regularly... been a long time since I've seen one I *needed* to own. I also know I'm not the only one that misses the days of the UPO-Lite type watches... great looking on the wrist and easy to write off if the look/feel wasn't up to snuff.
  17. My three PO's are water tight... 4th gen 42, UPO and UPO Lite have all proven to be fine swimmers... just had to tighten casebacks.
  18. Nah... that just means our malfunctioning, complete lack of QC pams will be just *that* much closer to gen. When you watch falls off your wrist because the pin slipped... just say "damn Richemont and their lack of quality control"!
  19. Date setting on the 7750's (ETA and Asian)... just to be on the safe side of things... don't set the date between 10pm and 2am ...I've been pretty anal about mine and set the date to noon (furthest point from midnight on the movements wheels) before I set the date and never had an issue. I believe that the 7750 design has a bit of a flaw that allows the date quick set function to become inoperable if it is used too near the "date change" (i.e. midnight) point on the movement. Also with Asian 7750s (and any chrono in general... just to be safe): make sure you've got a good amount of power reserve before you run/stop/reset the chronos. Many say don't wind the a7750 from the crown, I tend to follow that advise.... swirl around in you hand for 30 sec or so to get the works running and then wear for a day to get a full wind... Removing and replacing a crystal can require a bit of technique, or just brute force with your thumbs... depends on the watch. I generally pop crystals out by hand (remove caseback and movement first obviously) and replace with a crystal press available from any of the watch tool houses... i've seen neat little PVC pipe creations used to remove crystals as well, but I have yet to encounter one that can't be popped by hand. One must be careful though, many crystals have a gasket that increase the water-resistance... very fragile and pretty much impossible to replace if damaged. I'm sure a search of the site hear will show the basics of what you need to know to do this yourself, or decide if you want a modder to do it for you. I learned how do do many repairs by sourcing MANY MANY crappy watches to play with and learn the skills... I destroyed more than one cheap rep in learning and I'm still learning... been working at it for two years and consider myself a solid n00b at modding/watchsmithing. As far as AR goes... us the search on this site... several members have ability or links to those that can AR your crystal... or if you trust your own skill enough to remove and reset your own crystals... call around to local places that make eye-glasses and inquire if they would be willing to put the anti-reflective coating on a watch crystal you provided... some will, some won't, some will do it poorly, some do a great job.
  20. Any idea on the "twist rate" as it were on the Pam screws Gavidoc?... I never had luck in finding them in the wild so I cowboyed up and took a few inches right in the ole' keester and got em from a cartel dealer when I ordered my UPO Lite a while back... four full CG's with 8 screws was almost as much as the watch... but at least shipping was combined. now I have several spares and use the removable lock-tite to keep my wallet from getting abused again. BTW... anyone know what size screw holds the rotor to a highbeat a7750?
  21. The Honpo versions are supossed to be better... not having a chance to have a side by side of an unmodded Honpo with any other version, I can't really say... I lucked into mine and I love it. I know the really old 7753 version is coveted for its correct movement but the bezel, dial and case were a bit off. I will say my Honpo has great lume for a rep... I'm about 95% certain it hadn't been relumed by a prior owner. I don't think I would get mine re-lumed, in a nice dark room its legible all night long as is (as long as your eyes are adjusted to the dark) I know the newer Honpo versions had individually numbered casebacks... in other words, all the 187 reps aren't case number 117 like all the 127s (it is "0117/1000" isn't it... can't be bothered to dig my 127 out of the safe atm....) Thats the biggest selling point I recall of the Honpos, the case detail was supposed to be nicer as well... but the "live" serial numbers were the standout feature of the Honpo 187s. And with any other PAM, the shoes (strap) really make the watch... don't skimp. There are many fine custom makers that will whip up a masterpiece for you for less than 150$... I'm recently infatuated with Savage, he made a strap for a PVD pam for me I just can't stop wearing... price was perfect too. Doesn't Ztech (isn't that Chieftangs new moniker?) do AR... he's CONUS if I'm not mistaken... I take my crystals to the local Lens Crafters.. the young woman with green hair there is very nice to me and does my AR's cheap and quickly... just have to supply the bare crystal to them. Call any place that actually makes glasses, they can coat crystals, its just a matter of if they *will* do it for anything/anyone other than inhouse glasses lenses. All in all the 187 headed your way looks good... as others have said; make certain your Bezel markers are fimly attached, I've heard of folks knocking them off and losing them... thats probably the biggest issue with the 187... also be a bit wary of the movement, its an a7750 modded to the 3,6,9 layout... a bit less reliable than the native 6,9,12 layout for chrono use.... for general time keeping it'll run fine... repeated chrono use could cause an issue. If you plan on keeping the watch for a long period and have to use your chrono's... invest in a servicing... well worth the cash for a watch you plan on keeping and using for a long time.
  22. Just looking at the photos... the 187 appears to be one of the later Honpo offerings... in the 2nd photo the "too far threaded pushers" are clearly visible... as I suggested earlier, back off the screw down part a bit and it will cover the threading no problems. Can't see the He valve or the faux "quick date set" on the case side... they look decent on the Honpo 187s but are "different" from gen. Looks like its AR free.. I'm sure you can track down a modder here that will be more than happy to coat that crystal for you. The recessed date wheel is something that unfixable (at least as far as I know) with the 7750 movement... That all being said, Enjoy your watch... the 187 is a spectacular toy.... and the odds of ever encountering a Gen on someone elses wrist in the wild is pretty slim. I see the Gen strap is still up for grabs... hrmm... so tempting.
  23. Its a damn shame, because the GMT mod is a wonderful thing... but every GMT modded ETA 2836-2 I've had over the past two years is now dead... one Asian 21j is still running... but is very very touchy as far as setting time/date/24hour hand... I've got a few 2893-2's running with 24hour hands, they run like champs, but are pretty much unavailable these days. That leaves the a7750 as the best GMT modded option in my mind (obviously wouldn't work to well with Rollie reps)....Only GMT modded rep's I've got that run well are the a7750 based Pam ones... I'm not a a7750 fan by any means... but at least the GMT modded variety seems to last / work as intended for at least the service life of a rep. Haven't tried to service a gmt-modded 7750 yet... still working up my chops on the unmodded 7750's.
  24. Nothing at all. Intermember drama from other forums bleeding over here. Seems that the internet isn't big enough for everyones egos to fit at the same time. (not directed at any person, just a general observation)
  25. Beat me too my thought on the matter... buy what you like if you intend to wear it and actually use it... resale value be damned. If your looking for an investment, consult a financial adviser... investing in watches at the low to mid end (i.e... under 25k or so) seems like a harsh market to me... even the higher end market seems like the returns would be lower than many other "safe" investments. Buy the gen you like for yourself... not what anyone else thinks or likes. I will say that the EasyDiver is an interesting watch... not exactly my cup of tea, but it is a neat watch. I always have to give several "OiRogers Brand Cool Points" (available now in bulk purchase, PM for details) to any watch with an actual inhouse movement that isn't a 50,000usd watch. So many 7750 and other ETA based watches out there... the inhouse movement makes that watch stand out to me. If you do buy it, please post some photos... always wonderful to see someones new pride and joy!
