  1. The Mrs. OiRogers insists that the watch be removed prior to any *activities*... ususally make the watch be left in another room too... But, as a male, that is a price I'm more than willing to pay...
  2. Thats nice to hear. Perhaps the impending ETA drought won't be so bad. I'd always guessed another ebauche maker would step up and produce full movements to fill the void... Perhaps the SW200 is the way of the future (of reps)
  3. Only issue left then is the Datewheel alignment the OP mentions... I'm guessing the SW200 isn't a direct replacement for the 2824 then size wise... best of luck in resolving your issue Gavilan. No reason to have to settle for a crappy datewheel alignment if the photos you purchased from show'd otherwise.
  4. Actually that clasp is fairly accurate... I had an opportunity to try a gen on at a duty free shop at the SanJuan PR airport... they had the stainless/ceramic bezel in the case with a "sold" tag on it... talked em into letting me try it on though. Very nice watch but the clasp on the gen sat wierd... I think any single deployant is prone to do such though. I would say (other than the obvious movement/rotor sticker issues) tells are the datefont and CF dial. And with all the variations of datewheels and dials coming out with the gens, keep it on your wrist and no one will be the wiser. Not a bad rep for a 9000usd+ gen.
  5. Wow.. and here I thought that I was the only one who has a severe distate for Sector watches... And yeesh, that may be the ugliest rollie ever.... useful for a yacht-racer? sure, but its ugly. Useful for anyone else? nope, and its still ugly.
  6. If your just ordering the springbars from River you have no customs issues to worry about... Finding them local? I guess ask for the suppliers finest Thickest 24mm springbars... Seriously... go with River. Failing that ... go with Rivers Ebay sales.
  7. Yes, you do. First rule... beat somes @ss the first day so that you can show people your tough... Second rule... if you drop the soap in the shower... let it go.. Don't reach for it. Thirdly... Let us all know where you'll be doing your time so anyone close can come on visiting day for a GTG. In all seriousness... nah. I do seriously hope all is well with our collector friend. He is a stand up fellow. But, if you do have anything to worry about, re-read the above rules and pay special attention to rule 2.
  8. As I've posted elsewhere on this board... I have a a7750 28.8k with the GMT mod in a pam 186 and its run like a champ for me... super accurate and very durable. i'm guessing that like every other rep, this one is hit or miss. I got lucky with a hit.
  9. Wait... I missed something (perhaps in my self imposed absence from about December to around a week and half ago...) When in the heck did an ETA noobmariner become available?... You mean I've had my wrist go "Swish-swish-swish...etc... ad nauseum" for no reason? Please enlighten this Born Again Noob where one can acquire such a thing as an ETA NoobMariner? If its as simple as a movement swap I'm there, but I didn't think the ETA fit the Noobmariner case of Neil offerings.. (the only Noobmariner I have)
  10. As far as I'm aware the Asian Copy hands are a different size from the ETA's... I'm pretty certain Vacumm or The Zigmeister posted the exact sizes of each hand somewhere.... Check with the various parts sources (gen ones...) about sourcing gen hands... the Gen hand fit on the ETA movements no problems.
  11. I can vouch for the A7750 28.8k GMT movement in my particular example of the Pam 186. It's scary accurate for a rep. Within 1 sec a day on the wrist, about 3 sec a day on the winder. COSC Easy. I've used it as a daily wear beater for about 3 monthes now. Anyone who knows me personally knows I'm not gentle with my watches. I've smashed more than one Saphire crystal, big reason why I don't own any "mineral crystal" or "synthetic" saphire cyrstals. Pretty much all of my steel sport watches have a big ding or two in the case or on the strap. I've had two leather straps ripped off my wrist in various actions... once on the 186 GMT i'm praising here; it fell about 12 feet onto concrete as a result. It's taken my abuse and kept running spot on. I've only had to adjust it to the atomic clock twice since I've had it. As one can imagine, I don't sell my used watches; I bury them once all traces of life have been squeezed from em... Nanuq Jr I guess. The GMT hand has tracked accurately with the hour hand since minute one, no issues there. I wish my 2836-2 rep gmt were this nice. I've got one thats given me nothing but trouble. I'm to the point that if a GMT rep is available with the A7750, I'll pick that everytime over an ETA 2836-2. As always in the rep world, each watch is different. It could well be that my next A7750 GMT (prolly a timewalker) will be worthless. I've had great luck with mine, it came from Andrew.
  12. I'm a few days late here... But pass on my Congrats as well. I'm an Eagle Scout myself... back from the dark ages of 1994. And yes, Obeyan, rougly 1% of scouts reach Eagle. This speaks volumes about the quality of their leadership that Nanuq has had soo many. In many ways reaching the Eagle rank reflects more highly on the leaders than the scouts. I'm pretty certain that a large portion of youngsters have the potential, it takes leadership to bring that potential forward. Keep up the great work Nanuq. One question though Nanuq... do your scouts know anything about reps?... my scout master never said a word about em... taught us all alot about carrying heavy things for long distances over rough terrain... that and old stories of his time in Vietnam. Kind of strange how these things DO prove useful in adult life though.
  13. For the 42.5mm PO the gen hands cost me less than 50usd from Ofrei, well worth the upgrade. The Gen dial also is a quick swap in the 4th/5th gen.... but the dial is 200usd, not worth it in my book.
  14. Doh, My bad... I forgot that there were two link versions available... *tachy* and *non-tachy*. I never saw the point of a chrono lacking a Tach so I pretty much forgot a smooth bezel version existed. Yes, I realize I referenced the non-tachy version... It was the one I popped to on Tags site, didn't look a the bezel, just the dial. I stand corrected. But imho, the Blue dial is the only way to go.
  15. As a proud owner of both a UPO (45mm) and a 4th Gen (42.5mm) Po I can say they are both great reps... By-Tors Omega guide is the root cause of me owning the 4th gen... and buying the 4th gen got me interested enough in Omegas to get a UPO when they were released. Both watches are beautiful. My 4th gen is now modded lightly with Gen hands and is one of the nicest reps I've ever seen. My UPO on arrival was a bit of a disappointment... fit and finish was a step below the 4th gen. But after a few hours of filing, polishing and a little movement work, My UPO is a great watch too... I've got a UPO "Lite" enroute from the far east as I type this... I decided to get that so I wouldn't have to risk damage to an insert any time i felt like changing it. I look forward to the Lite UPO, if its Externally as nice as the UPO i'll be thrilled. An ETA swap and Gen hands and I'll be in there.
  16. Not true... pop over to the Tag site... Black exists from the factory... reference number CJF2110.BA0576 White (silverish) is also available with the aforementioned Grey and Blue. Also... to continue the dredging of old (but classic) watches... its "tells" were mainly the date-font and the crown. My particular example also had the distinction of featuring a fliplock that had its underside finished by an epileptic hamster rather than being polished. I can't complain too much though.. it was my first A7750 rep and it has run like a champ since I recieved it. All in all a beauty of a watch and a rep must have.
  17. As another thought... Fossil (eek!!!1!) makes a very similar watch. Saw it just the other day as I went to the mall locally to restock my Burberry Brit.
  18. Wow... if the worst complaint we can have about a new rep is a speck of dust on the dial, we have arrived. Gentlemen (and the 1 lady who reads these forums... you know who you are) Welcome to the Golden Age. Just kidding here @OP. Hop on over to TZ and check out their watchschools... you'll learn a huge amount and be more than willing to uncase and get any other phantom specks out within a week.
  19. @ Cornerstone If you do it on grey with say... navy printing... I'm in for one. Also... I'm still trying to locate one of those JetMid tour 2005 T's...
  20. Great magazine... Been a reader/subscriber for a bit over a year now. And its a magazine I can proudly tell the wife that Yes, I do read it mainly for the pictures.
  21. These facts... they are a damn shame... I've been cruising Eb*y for monthes for Sub dials with this swap in mind... Never quite got about to pulling the trigger... now perhaps it is for the best. I hear the Datejust/daydate gen to rep is a quick easy one... perhaps in 30 years when I'm all old and Datejust/diaper wearing i'll be all over that mod.
  22. As per my Sig... this threads title is pretty much one of the finest combos of words in the English language... Now... as long as the package reaches you without any of that dreaded Green Tape of DOOOM on it.
  23. Another option: Pen Erasers (the greyish one). Erasable Pens that have that Greyish slightly gritty eraser work wonders as well... Smoothes up the edges of rough bracelets quickly and easily... Scotchbrite is a great idea too... Either way you go... test on a small area first to make certain your particular bracelet will look good after treatment.
  24. A note on the 2836-2 modified GMT movements... I've had nothing but trouble with mine. It cannot keep a constant rate... it varies from 20+ min slow a day to 1+hour fast a day, adjustments have made no difference. The GMT hand itself seems to *slip* occasionally and drop hours behind for no reason. (i'm aware of the 24hour dial... it loses 3 hours some days... others its bang on) When screwing the crown home... it frequently will change the date 2 or 3 days ahead, or move the hands backward 12 to 15 minutes... what a wonderful movment my watch contains that the stem doesn't *quite* fit correctly, or even incorrectly consistantly. I'm certain a full servicing *could* fix a few of its issues, but I'm not willing to invest the time or money in it, If I ever decide to get another GMT2 rollie rep I'll be going ETA 2893. I've had the watch on my winder for a few monthes trying to "break it in"... Not gonna happen, its "broken". The 2836-2 might be much cheaper than the 2893 but IMHO you get what you pay for. All the GMTS I wear now are either 2893 or 7750 based... the 2836-2 isn't up to par in my experience. Your milage may vary and I'm certain someone reading the forums here has a 2836-2 based GMT that runs like a top, mine certainly doesn't.
  25. By "Sub" I was refering to the rollie variety... I will however now have to do some quick photoshopping of a Pam and some Chromehearts stuff... I wonder if they make anything large enough.... off I go to google image search and such.
