  1. Why is DLP not mentioned or an option? Plasma....overpriced and the picture dulls quickly as the gas burns. LCD....not bad, but the issue of dead pixels still remains. Don't think it won't happen to you....it will. DLP does not have these issues...and 1080p (which they don't even broadcast in yet) is available at an extremely reasonable price. Sony has an overly bright picture. It is designed that way to look good in the show room. Looks lousy once you get it home in a normal environment. Samsung is extremely unreliable. No shops in my area will even take them in because they are so problematic. Now is actually the best time to be in the market. Mitsubishi is in the process of switching from BB to Circuit City as a primary vendor. Any Mits left at BB are being cleared out at insane prices. I got a 65 inch DLP 1080p set with multiple HDMI inputs for $2600 U.S. This is $1200 off it's original price....and the finest quality set you can imagine. It is amazingly better than the 42" Mits HD rear projection that I have....and that was "state of the art" 2 years ago. Do your research...consider DLP...and take a look at the Mits. If you do...I guarantee that you won't be sorry. Perhaps true bliss is viewing "the game" in high def....in surround sound....with a good rep on one hand....and an ice cold (American thing?...LOL) beer in the other. I do enjoy the pursuit of bliss.....
  2. Very well said!! I couldn't agree more. I know that every aspect of my life and beliefs changed when I became a Father. It's just something that defies accurate description....yet any good parent feels it and knows it. It needs no words. We are all part of the same "club" with no barriers of language, borders, political ideals or religious affiliations. It's horrific what we have turned our world into. While you are reading this.....someone....somewhere....just died for no reason, benefit, or purpose. Maybe it's something that will merit a blurb on CNN that won't even register while we surf channels. More than likely...not. XX dead in a roadside bombing, XX killed in a drive-by shooting, amber alert of a child abducted, missile attacks on XX, more violence in XX....the hit parade goes on and on. War is only the beginning of hell. It's the after effects that plunge us deeply into the true meaning of it. Our beloved children and families pay the ultimate price for the vanity (and wallets) of our so-called "leaders". I'm going to climb off the soap box and tuck my son into bed. It's the only part of my day that has mattered for the last 12 years. I wish nothing but good things for you all.....even the ones who don't like me... 3. Why watches? I really have no idea why that's something I'm into either...I just have been since the teenage years. For me it's mostly "dive" type watches. Rolex was always at the top of the list. Something about the look that is perfection for me. I guess it's like women....everyone has their own taste. What might be incredibly hot to one person is barely lukewarm to another. I was eventually lured by the spam monster as well. Bored at work one day I followed a link out of curiosity. The site sent up some red flags (regardless of the fact that I would not do business with a spam site) but it did get my curiousity piqued...and the research began. I also started with some of the "boards" that are scams advertising scam sites. Never did purchase. Got close...but it never "felt" right when it was time to pull the trigger. I found TRC and watched to see if it was a scam. Found this place and watched as well. So far I've received my first rep, have two more set to arrive any day, and bought another one today. The experience and education is fantastic! It's refreshing to have something new to delve into. Now, based on Saturday when I wore my rep for the first time, I'll just have to get used to the ramifications of wearing my new toys. But that's fodder for a different thread I'm sure. The ride is fun, the amount of knowledge here is amazing, and the people (most...LOL) are friendly and helpful. The three dealers I've dealt with have been exemplary. All of this is greatly appreciated by someone new at the game.
  4. Thanks for the input on the ruggedness of the reps. It's good to know that some things may not need to be worried about. As far as the dealers....I'd have to totally agree with you! I've dealt with two so far and received product from one. The service level from both of these dealers defies accurate description. Top notch all the way! I think it's these successful transactions that make it easier to continue shopping. The PayPal account is screwed........
  5. Hello, I've seen mentioned that it is a good idea to tighten the case back on a new watch. Any suggestions on what to look for in a tool that will do this? An Ebay search turned up hundreds, and there are many different types. This would be for Rolex reps. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  6. That's a good way to look at it....and I'll take that approach in the future. It's appreciated to be able to learn from the experience of others. I'll have a less critical eye when my two new ones arrive.......
  7. Absolutely fantastic information!!! Thank you for taking the time to document all that!
  8. Oh Geez.... I never said I had no reference. I was very clear in what I said. You can call my attitude "cool" in a public post....but that is completely different than the PM you sent me....isn't it? I'm not going to post it or let others see you showing your a$$. There's no point. If you feel the need to attack and use profanity....go ahead. At the end of the day...... "It's just a watch, dude".
  9. OK.....let me try to clarify before this gets really silly. It's obvious that I did not do an effective job of expressing what I was thinking. The only issue I was having a problem with was trying to understand why....with all the interest and money involved....aren't subs guaranteed water resistant. Simply put.....why, if I spend $200 on something, should I have to be nervous if I want to jump off the boat to get cool or somebody pushes me in the pool? That's all. I only mentioned cheap a$$ brands because I've had them...still do...and not one has had a water issue. I mentioned "fit and finish" because I've just gotten my first rep and am a little disappointed. I covered that in a different thread and received some insightful responses which I appreciate. I've got two more reps on the way and have been reading ad nauseum everything I can find on the TT sub I truly want. It seems like a Holy Grail at this point. My intent was to gain information....and maybe some venting came out in that.....but I certainly was not trying to insult anyone or cast aspersions. To those who have offered opinions based on their wisdom....I sincerely thank you. To those who simply want to bash because it makes them feel better at some level......knock yourself out.....but perhaps you could remember that we've all had a "first day" in this.
  10. OK CJ....since it's obviously bothering you so much... What's up with that is that I'm reading the responses and taking everything in. We always learn more from listening than talking. There have been some fantastic, informative, and wise responses from members. Lancelot, Clive, Pugwash, Ubi, Archibald (GREAT last line in the response!), and Kanerich all offered insight and education that I appreciate greatly. I'm sorry if the fact that I don't feel the need to post a "thanks! great answer!" post following each response bothers you. (that was sarcasm btw. I'm actually not sorry at all....but it sounded good). The aforementioned members (that means the ones I mentioned before) have been very helpful to someone new at this. You have yet to do that on either thread. In fact....it was a mere two minutes between the time you posted your second pointless negative response to my other thread....and when you jumped on here. If you have anything positive to impart, I'm open to it. On the other hand...if it's your new hobby to chase my a$$....that's a little odd. Have a good day 'eh. P.S. Even as a "noob" I recognize and appreciate what this community has to offer. That's why I have no problem putting money down and supporting the site. Feel free to join me at any time.
  11. Hello all. Is there information available on how to care for ETA movements? How often to wind...what not to do....things like that. I have done searches but can't seem to find anything. Thanks.
  12. Hello all. You'll have to forgive the obvious "noob" question....but there is something I have to ask because it makes no sense to me. There is obviously a HUGE market for rep watches. Lots of dealers....lots of sites....LOTS of spam emails....there's money in it. What I can't understand is why I can go to Wal-Mart and pay 10 bucks for a watch that is (for example) guaranteed water resistant and actually is. Of course it's not a "fine timepiece"....but it looks good....the finish wears for about two years....and there is no disclaimer that you shouldn't wear it while even taking a shower. It's made in the same countries that the reps are. I just snagged 4 watches off the bay that are great daily beaters. 2 Gruen and 2 Benrus. I've had the brands before and they perform well. Water resistant as can be....keep great time....and have a nice finish to them. Got all 4 for $34 plus shipping. So if it's that easy to make something halfway decent....why do repeated problems happen with reps? It's not like the problems can't be fixed. When money is involved......anything is possible. I'm new to this and not sure how the whole acquisition process works for the dealers. What I'm not 'getting' is why a $200 rep has worse 'form and finish' than an 'off the shelf' other brand that costs less than 10% of the price. They're made in the same place...... Is it just that the emperor truly has no clothes......and only a select few make serious coin off that? The whole dynamic seems much more complicated than it needs to be. Maybe it's just me......LOL
  13. Hello to all. I received my first rep and I'm a little disappointed. There are things I don't like about it that jumped out at me. This got me wondering what is realistic to expect, and what isn't. So I'm reaching out to the experts. I purchased an LV Sub for around $200. The etched crown in the crystal isn't directly over the 6. It is between minute markers 30 and 31. The pearl on the bezel....is it supposed to be rounded or look like a painted dot? The paint (?) in the circles on the hour markers....some of them are concave...some of them are convex. The crown guards...where the brushed areas meet the polished...are at a different level on each guard. Where the crown guard meets the base (where the crown sets) isn't a sharp inside corner on one side. I know it's difficult to tell exactly without pictures (I'll be trying to figure out how to do that) but what I'm asking those with more experience is am I expecting too much? I know that these aren't supposed to fool a jeweler. What I'm most curious about is should you be able to hand this to the average person....or are these meant to be looked at from a distance? FYI....I have been reading this forum and another for quite a while and did do a lot of research. The item came from a dealer with an excellent reputation. Don't ask who because I'm not comfortable saying so until I get some feedback. I appreciate any insights you can offer. Thanks in advance.
