  1. Wow! Fantastic looking job! Wear it well!
  2. I was going to go this route, but instead decided to go with gen 1570's If anyone is interested, they could have the three datewheels I bought for what they cost me
  3. gave up on trying to fit parts together and bought a gen..
  4. TT, I'd love to know a better deal if there's one out there any tips?. I bought two boxes during one of their weekly specials, a box of Cohiba Siglo 4, and a box of Cohiba Robustos. Total price USD was a little over 7
  5. Just thought I'd share a recent experience with a couple items ordered from habanodirect. About a month ago I ordered two boxes of my favorite cigars, which unfortunately got halted along the line (ugh!). They quickly shipped a full replacement, which arrived yesterday Like many of our dealers, customer service came first, and was very much appreciated. ....Heh heh, I think I may have to dig out the dupont!
  6. It's nice to see that Zig got this well deserved show of appreciation, well done! I hope he gets to enjoy a slow sip by the fireplace with family and friends
  7. Wow! Absolutely fantastic job! Wear it in good health
  8. ...mine still doesn't even come close to this beauty:
  9. Original WatchMaster 6541 with slow beat 2846. Further modded with vintagized dial, gen tropic installed, case reworked, gen crown/tube, Michael Young insert/bezel, and a gen rivet bracelet... enjoy....
  10. I knew I was headed down this road a while ago, as soon as I realized I was becoming more and more critical of the defects in our reps that simply drove me crazy. Anyway, I finally bought my first gen. Tritium 16660, all original with documented recent Rolex service. This watch is the transitional sea dweller (no reps made of it that I know of). Early eighties watch, nicely patina'd tritium ...now, the only question I have.... .....should I mod it???? ..and here is a pic of it next to my fully modded mbw 16610:
  11. Rob, Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed explanation of your feelings concerning this site, mods, scammers, etc. Being fairly new to this hobby, I can say very honestly that finding this site a little over a year ago has inspired me to learn as much as I could about rep watches. My very first rep was one I bought for forty bucks on the street in front of the Empire State Building on 34th St. At the time, I couldn't believe how great the watch looked. Now I look back and realize what an incredibly poor watch it actually was. Learning things here on the forum has taught me that; especially posts you have made. I agree that for someone who has an analytical mind, shortcuts motivated by pure laziness are totally unacceptable. Although I don't have to worry about stall speeds in my line of work, running into burning buildings without sizing up appropriately will kill just as fast. Luckily for me I have not lost anyone close since September of '01. Reading your posts have always been an education for me, and I will miss reading your latest. As I'm sure many here will agree, not only are you a complete gentleman in person, but the information you have always given freely to each and every member here though your posts is priceless. For everyone who reads this, here are two complete works of art Rob has done for me. Without a doubt, these are art, and worth much more than something someone can just go out and buy anywhere:
  12. I've never seen one that looks like this. It appears fake to me. Why the closed "6" on "26"? Print on disc does not appear identical to the four gen 1570's with silver date wheels I have on my desk
  13. Thanks for the compliment on the watch. I have dove all over the world, although one of my favorite dives is the "devil's throat" in Cozumel.. heh heh.. 80 degree Fahrenheit water temps at 120' depth. Here's a link to where I dove last, definitely dry suit territory, with water temps at 120' depth in the low 40 degree Fahrenheit range: http://njscuba.net/sites/site_submarines_2.html
  14. Here's a really rough estimate on just the parts: MBW 1665: about $300 gen crown & tube: $45 give or take a few bucks gen insert w/acrylic pearl: $150 springbars: $10 gen superdome: $200 to $300 gen movement: $1000 gen bracelet: $600 So, that brings us close to $2400, which of course does not include installation/casework etc. These prices will vary of course since most of it is used or NOS; however, as Jetsons mentioned earlier, it's still better than $14 grand!
  15. Thank you ! ! ! The best review I have ever read! That pretty much makes up my mind, I think I'll be headed to an AD tomorrow and buying a gen...
  16. Ha haha.. The sea dweller The Zigmeister just did for me looks a thousand times better!!!!
