  1. Cool post; lucky guy I wish I could visit these fabled markets. Would be a lot of fun just to see everything available in the flesh, even the stuff I have no real interest in. DEFINITELY compile a write up, it's something I never tire of. Good luck!
  2. I think we're definitely in the "golden age" of replicas, myself. Yes there were good replicas a year ago, but there weren't as many options if you wanted one as far as dealers and models were concerned. It's been interesting, I have been buying reps for about the last 8 years now, and have been a member of the rep forums for about 4 or so. The price of the watches has gone down quite a bit, and the quality of the newer ones is pretty amazing. I started looking for a new modern Submariner again after a hiatus about 4 years ago and then the price of ETA Sub's was approaching $300 from most dealers. Just have fun, buy some nice watches, and enjoy it for as long as you can
  3. The first Sub's out were very slender, before the 6536. The 1680 and the 5512/13 had the same midcase I believe, but I'm not positive. I don't think they are bad by any means, I would mod the CG's a little, yank out the pearl, give it the penny treatment above and have fun wearing a watch with some great character
  4. the 55xx sub's are some of the best looking Rolex ever made, IMO. I definitely dig the plexi crystal and how clean they look without the date and cyclops. The main difference between the 5512 and the 5513 is that the 5512 was a COSC Chronometer while the 5513 was not. Different calibers were also used. I actually didn't know they had some good 5512's out there, probably the only Submariner I would buy today. I am done with the modern ones, and I am still waiting for a killer 1675 The 14060's were better a few years ago, oddly enough. Now they all seem to have maxi dials, and some even have SEL's. I do like them, but they just don't have the charm the vintage models do. I would definitely go that way, especially if you had one prior. Just remember to put it in a jar of pennies and shake it in your free time for a few days to get it looking used Good luck, and if you do end up buying that 5512 please post phots, I would like to see it. Take care
  5. definitely 3k no way a 3 watch Orbita was only three hundred. They also make the watch winder James Bond would own, a 40 watch model that has a hidden motorized winding panel http://www.orbita.net/pages/12300.htm
  6. The chrono pushers don't screw down on the gen. either. I have owned both, and I would say the rep. is fantastic.
  7. that GP Seahawk would be freakin awesome. If they make another Rolex out of all this, I am going to kill myself.
  8. My first thought too Looks like one from Paul
  9. 6542 is a cool GMT but I would rather see a fantastic 1675. In my opinion, no CG Sub.'s are the way to go if you're into that look. I do dig the bakelite bezel though, very cool.
  10. I definitely dig these old Omega's. I have a few Seamaster's that look similar. What caliber movement is inside? 565? I just wish there were larger one's around... Guessing this is about 34mm? Looks great
  11. Omega is a great alternative to Panerai Great choices.
  12. This theme is bringing back some terrible memories
  13. 1675 is easily one of my all time favorite Rollies This one looks great. I really dig the CG and casework, looks very good.
  14. One of the best ever Looks great, can't wait for mine.
  15. Yep, they should be the same font. The Seamaster's use the standard ETA daterings, but some of these SMP chrono's have been shipping with the same movement as the TAG Link chrono's, which have the wrong font.
  16. Great writeup, stunning watch. Can't wait for mine to come. Also worth mentioning that your particular watch has the correct datefont.
  17. Well it's pretty clean for a 1680 and I am 100% sure that's an MBW dial. Also the fact he states he got it overhauled and Rolex won't give him a copy of the report is a bizarre thing to mention.

  19. WOW seeing this watch is going to make me cry. It's beautiful!
