  1. I don't know actually. :g:

Seems Hollywood more than Britain is the thread that binds Brits and Panerai.

    Ewan McGregor too. :)

Laurie surprises me, if he does wear a Panerai. He doesn't seem the pretty or hard boy or fop type. It's not because he's an OE, or anything. He's just very discreet.

D'oh! I forgot about Ewan! Shame on me. Agreed, Hollyweird more than the UK, per se. In my own experience, the Brits that I've met have been more in tune with Panerai than the typical stateside WIS. This might not be the norm, however.

I agree, if he's wearing a PAM, it will surprise me. The Hamilton didn't surprise me a bit. I thought it rather fitting, actually.

  2. I'll have to pay extra attention during the Super Bowl episode. ;)

Usually I notice these things. Hmph.

Being that Hugh is a Brit, and Brits seem to be fans of the marque (right Victoria?), it wouldn't surprise me. Hugh would just join the club of other British actors like Jason Statham, Orlando Bloom, Hugh Grant, etc. who like the watches.

  3. Sorry to correct you ,

but Pre-a cases are the same cases as the A-D cases.

Here we are talking about Pre-Vendome !

Pre-Vendome has nothing to do with Pre-A.

A Pre-Vendome case has very easy visible differences to the Pre-A or actual Luminor cases.

    Yes, sorry, I meant Pre-V.

Well, I spot things more easily than most people on the gen Panerai sites, and I'd have a tough time spotting a Pre-V case on someone's wrist. If you can, great.

I stand by my earlier statement that the dial cut-outs and the dial printing are far more obvious than case differences or lume. This will NOT be a perfect rep, and I don't expect it to be.

If you've got the resources to make a correct Pre-V case, please do.

  4. Because the case is a much more subtle "tell" than the shape of the 6 and 9. Same goes for the lume, in the daylight, you wouldn't be able to tell. You'd nearly need to have a pic of a real Pre-A case or an actual watch side by side with the rep to spot the differences.

  5. I wouldn't worry about the lume, fellas. Anyone "in the know" enough to recognize the 201/A as a 15 yr old watch will know it's a rep, anyway.

Despite the 6 and 9 needing to be a little flatter, I think this watch is gorgeous overall. Nice work DSN! The text on the dial looks GREAT.

  6. They were sent out today via plain old First Class mail. I don't know how long it'll take to get there, though.

In the meantime, rek, you could put a dab of clear nail polish on the end of the stripped threads. That will help hold the lug screw in place, but it isn't such a strong adhesive that you won't be able to remove the screw again.

Please let me know when the springbars arrive!

  7. I have read on various fora anecdotes about gen watch purchases at AD's. Guite often I have read stories from buyers that received 20% discount of the retail from there AD's.

I would guess that these stories are from people who are VERY good customers at that particular AD. If you don't have a relationship (read - have spent a ton of money prior) at an AD, I wouldn't expect any discount. At least that's the climate at US ADs, anyway.

  8. The "Reg. T.M." stands for Registered Trademark. Panerai has patented their crown guard system, IIRC.

I think the prevailing logic is that running the chrono feature all the time will increase the wear on your movement. I wouldn't let it run all the time, personally. The sub-dial at 9 o'clock is the running seconds display.

What strap you use is a completely personal choice. If you like the rubber, I would think about shelling out the money for a gen rubber strap. All of the rep rubber PAM straps that I've had have been mediocre at best. Although Angus' new "ultimate" or whatever rubber strap might be better.

The rep from Trusty is pretty good. The only flaw that jumps right out at me is that the markers are thinner than they should be. I don't know if any of the dials with thicker markers are still available.

    Have fun!

  9. yesterday i recieved my "fiddy" from andrew after a long transport from china. and i must say, that is an amazing piece, big, bold and just great.

the quality is great to, expect one of the strap screws that don

  10. Do we really need ANOTHER strap source? With makers like Vintager, Savage, Tootall, Delaurian, V, HK Tan, etc constantly getting new hides and trying new ideas, it's nearly like a new strap maker every week. ;)

Not to mention all the semi-custom and pre-made strap makers. I personally think the market is plenty saturated...
