Now that is excellent. Someone should pin this. Excellent Stevie. See this is what I am talking about. I only wish I could articulate what I wanted to say as good as you, then maybe not so many people would think I'm such a [censored]. On another note, don't be so quick to judge though my friend. You hit the nail on the head. You really don't know someone from how you perceive a persona on the internet. You asked what I do? I'm not sure that it is relevant but I work mostly alone in my own company. Myself and three people on a team and I love what I do. I'm just another guy man. And I'm not sure why if I should mention a car I own to puctuate a story that I should be pegged a guy who is spouting off about money. I just re-read everything I posted again to make sure I wasn't just lacking from sleep degredation last night and I guess I see how if someone wanted to make that slant out of it I suppose they could. People who want to see something can always see it. Suggesstion is a very powerful thing. If you re-read it again but another way this time you may not see that. All I ever did is mention a model of car (it goes fast - uh - I got a ticket - see...?) and that I could afford to pay the ticket which was less than $500. Do you think someone needs to be wealthy to pay such a ticket? I don't get it. And regarding the charity comments, you choose as I sald to see it that way. If you go back and re-read it in context you will correctly see that I said that as a response to a guy that was judgeing me and my membership status. I was telling him why he shouldn't judge what others do - like I'm telling you. In other words forget RWG, charities really need the money and I put mine where my wealth is. Everyone here should be doing the same regardless of income. I have been giving a portion of my income since my first part time job. So don't throw that in my face as ammo of how I brag about money. The bottom line is it is just the same jealosy coming from here as that cop. What else could it be. How else could one mention three numbers (996) and garner such bile. I guarantee if I went to the OT forum at TZ right now and posted a 996 story I wouldn't get one person saying a bad word about me. It is because people over there would take it at face value as they should. But since here the car is I guess not commonplace I suppose anyone who owns one and says so is either a braggart or he is lying? What kind of persecution is that? You are right I don't get it. God forbid I get a Ferrari one day. I'll be sure not to dare mention it here for fear that someone will go oh yeah great, there he goes again. Goes what, where? Huh? The funniest thing really is that this forum is for people who collect things that are supposed to be luxury goods. It only stands to reason that many of you might be frustrated for one reason or another about his station in life and maybe it bugs you that you can't have the things you covet? See how stupid that sounds? I retract that as I just wrote that for a reason to make a point. No sooner should I make that judgement about any in this forum than should they make judgements about me because I mention a car. If it was a rep 996 would that be OK? Then am I poor enough to be one of the group and not an elitist snob? I think you get the point. Don't read about my car then turn it around in my face and say I am doing something or am something I'm not because YOU don't like the story, or the way I sound when I write it. The fact is you are just using that portion of it as ammo. Which is why all the posts have been off topic. It is too easy to focus on the car instead of what I said because you are more interested in bringing me down. If my car was a Subaru this never would have happened. So small, man. So unevolved and untolerant. Let me tell you something else. One day you are going to have to grow up and realize that the guy next door is always going to have a faster car than you or more money or whatever and you are just going to have to deal with it. My cars look like junkers next to my neighbors and I could give a crap. That is the difference between me and you. I stopped being threatened by other peoples cars when I was 17 or so. How old are you? And if you think your neighbor is a [censored], so be it but be objective at least. Make sure you really think he is a [censored] and not that he is a [censored] because he said he has a 996 and it pisses you off that he had the balls to say it - or that he has one and you don't. And that goes for you too Jake - if you are back from waxing my plane yet! There is a difference...
-
Fair enough M. I appreciate your candor and I'll take you up on that drink I'm sure one day soon. Cheers!
-
Jake as you can see is obsessed with me and my money. He greatest aspiration is to balance my checkbook and study my tax returns in the front seat of my Porsche. He always says I bore him yet look at the effort he puts into writing about me. Big, chunkie paragraphs and highly detailed. He also just won't give up pining for me. I told you before Jake, I'm not gay and besides, I'm already taken. Now get back down to the hangar and put that second coat of wax on my G5 before I have to fire your a*s. Can't get good help these days. They are always so busy analyzing what I'm doing they fall short on their own goals. And you know what happens then? You can't get the damn plane waxed in time to fly to Basel. We can't have that now can we? How else will I get my advance order in on all the new tourbys out next year? I'll tell you what Jake: Do an extra good job and I'll throw you a gen Skagen and an extra battery as a bonus

This was buried in another thread and I though it might be an interesting discussion. The orginal discussion that kind of started via PM was whether wrist size and stature and clothing choices contribute to size percetions and how. My contention was that when I objectively look at my DJ it really isn't all that small. My wrists are 7.5" and I'm 5'9" 160lbs with fairly broad shoulders for my size and athletic build. The point being that stature has more to do with wear size than anything else. A guy that is like Bytor's size, who is a powerlifter, is going to make the watch look small no matter the wrist size. Not much a big guy can do about that except to only wear it with suits under shirt sleeves. But if you are an average guy - even with big wrists like mine, the 36MM Rolex will not look small. It will wear smaller worn outside short sleeves and bigger outside long sleeves though. Consider this pic with my 7.5" wrists that show the whole watch and wrist. I doubt anyone would say the watch looks small on me at all. Anyone? Meanwhile, compare the shot of my same wrists with my 42MM Aquatimer, which of course wears bigger than its size being "all dial" so to speak. I think if one were evaluating these two pics he would say the AT looked big before saying the DJ looked small. And yet the consensus is that a 42MM watch is average in size these days. I love both sizes personally, but I still have to disagree with the general size consensus these days. Size is very relative and I don't think the MM count tells the whole story. What do you guys think?

Yeah I thought about it but I did the whole chrome thing and wanted to tie it together. Mini has very limited 18's and I wanted them for the stiffness. The mirrors, pipes, trim plus the whole interior is chrome and piano laquer black with black leather inside on this one. But I agree that would be hot for sure. I just love cross spokes of any kind. I have them on the 996 as well. Although those are alloy finished...

Is that really called for M? It is bad enough that the name calling goes unchecked around here lately, but now I have to be called a [censored] to my face by a Co-Admin here too? If you don't like me that is fine but sheesh, that is a little brutal man I have to tell you. It isn't like my feelings are hurt or anything as I'm very used to not being the most popular guy here sometimes and I know I'm controversial, but you should know that it certainly isn't from a lack of heart but rather shabby communication skills. If nothing else I'm only trying to provoke though in anything and I'm looking for truth just like everyone else. If you gave me the benefit of the doubt as a first reaction instead of jumping to conclusions you might realize that and discover that ironically, I'm really not arrogant, though on the surface it may seem so some times. In fact if many here really knew the level of humility it takes to be good at what I do it would baffle them. That is the paradox for me when I read that people think I'm arrogant it always draws a chuckle. The chuckle comes from knowing that if I really was arrogant I would go broke in about a day and a half. I just don't convey my self well in words sometimes for some reason. That said, I know who my friends are and given our history I'm well aware that you wouldn't count yourself as one of them. But even if you aren't my freind, you are after all an Admin, and I would appreciate not being called names by a supposed unbiased party. Surely other members reading this thread have to concur that mods and admins need not contribute to any name calling and above all else remain unbiased. What's fair is fair TT. No harm done, but ease up would ya?

Yeah and like I said I forgot to write not in town or to excess for the 12th time. I get tickets, but it doesn't mean I'm reckless. What is it going to take to get that through?
-
Oh Christ, You too Rob? Did you even read the thread? Are you kidding me? - I do go to the track quite often - I don't speed in town I speed at that track in fact - I'm sorry I didn't make that clear enough for the 11th time in the OP. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry - I'm not some cross walk jumping maniac for Christ sakes Federal Law? What the Christ does that have to do with any of this? Nothing of course. And yet you defend a badge and an ideal when you don't even know anything of the situation at all but still stand in judgement over me and cite the law? The law? Do you tell your boss how you make your moonlight living in an illegal industry? Clearly you are above the law then right? Oh yeah, that is different though. Hypocrites. And I thought they were mostly in America. The law had nothing to do with my story. It was a story about how my sense of humor is so dry that I am frequently pre-judged as I was by captain traffic today and how I was further penalized for telling the truth... If you are at a point in your personal evolution where you would have someone blindly respect a badge regardless of their abuse of power I feel pity for you I really do. This guy has a history of trapping people and costing them money. The little guy triumphed for a day by putting him in his place. That is all. But let's face it, all this is just a chance for the haters to take what I say out of context and bash me. You haven't liked me for some time so I suppose you just saw this thread as a fitting place to read what you want to read and cement your opinion. I could give a fu*k really as I have no love for you either or your amateur arrogance but yet I never felt the need to tell you that until provoked just now.

Stay tuned tomorrow for part 2, where I terrorize a group of unsuspecting tomato farmers with a Mini Cooper, a tub of axle grease and an electric dog polisher......at the local Mcdonald's car park. Here is the press release for tomorrow's event: Afterwards there will be a short seminar by guest speaker StevieJay who will explain why RobbieG feels he is better than everyone else after reading one thread. After all, nobody has a greater handle on people he doesn't know in the slightest than Stevie and we are lucky to have his assesment. RobbieG is also expected to appear (after terrorizing in his car of course) and is rumoured to finally reveal that he is in fact the spawn of satan as many have suspected. If there are any members of the law enforcement community present, you can also be sure there will be plenty of sniggering. There will also be a raffle and the grand prize is expected to be RobbieG's track membership.

Thanks Toad - especially for the part about personal attacks... Let me re-iterate that I got my ticket on a highway/artery trap coming off a 75 mph zone that turns right back into one. In fairness to me everyone speeds there. My "speeding" about town was just unarticulated by me. I live for acceleration and I only jam throught the first two gears and that is it in town. I'm no maniac guys and I'm sorry if I accidentally painted that picture. And yes we do book track time regularly. There are a group of us and between us we have my 996, three Mini's, a 997GT2, a 360 Challenge, a 430 and a Vantage. Oh and going in straight lines is no reason to get a Corvette or a Mustang. Let's not get crazy now. LOL. Actually, speaking of straight lines, in Florida we have no choice - there are no curves. Haha. And yes, hammering Mini's on the track takes a TON of concentration. Fun, fun fun! Conversely, the AWD Porsche's drive quite easily. Very well suited to amateur drivers. Man, speaking of safety I know a lot of guys that shouldn't have RWD Porsche's - especially Turbo's. My best friend is the guy with the GT2 in our little group and his is boosted to 780hp! The car is just downright scary. It is REALLY tough to keep on the road. If you stomp it in 4th gear at speed and clutch it the rear end will literally skip to the side about a foot as the car leaves the ground. And off the line? The car pulls like a rhino attached to a train with an elephant on top. Just scares the sh*t out of me. I like the nice tame concept of the AWD car. It is enough for me. I am thinking of getting an 09 as it will be the last year for a while and I may take that up to 640hp, but I will stick with the AWD car as I feel it is much tamer to drive. The GT2 has the cool factor but I don't think it is worth the dough. For way less money you can have a car that is quicker and faster and easier to drive and you still have rear seats in case God forbid you might wnat to take a foursome out for dinner...LOL

Absolutely TJ, 100%. And you are right. I just didn't articulate it the way I wanted to. I was just being honest with him and really not being sarcastic at all - just being my dry self. And for the record I really don't think I'm above the law because I can pay the fine. I only meant to illustrate that I feel bad for all the people who can't, so I somehow feel good letting him know that I don't need him to "teach me a lesson" - as many cops feel they need to be everyone's Daddy. It felt good to let him know that I was one guy that wasn't going to respond with the fear he was hoping for and with that I score one for some poor sap he ran down and cost some kid's Christmas presents with his high moral ground. Now if I was being reckless that is a different story. He should throw me in jail then. But speed traps and cops that work them that have absolutely no safety or public value like that one? Let's just say I don't mind spitting on that authority...
-
Please get this right guys. 88 in a 45 yes, but a SPEED trap 45. I got my ticket on a section of highway that is designed as a trap. The speed limit before that section is 75 and drops right to 45... So again, don't be so quick to judge when you don't have all the facts. And in this world it is survival of the fittest my friend. It was his intention to have my scowling and it was him. In a zero sum game somebody wins and somebody loses. Am I happy about it? Of course not. But then again, am I happy I wasn't the one bumming out with a ruined day. You bet. I looked at it not as a triumph for myself, but for all my brothers who are less fortunate than me who want to stand up for themselves but can't. The real irony is if I hadn't been honest with the cop for anything unrealted he would of scolded me for lying. Like if I lied and said I had an appointment. He would have loved to prove I was lying about that. Instead I tell the truth and accepted my ticket. make no mistake, he hated that I was willing to accept my punishment and made no effort to get out of it. That is what [censored] him off and why he did what he did. I could see the jealosy in his eyes. It is a sad state in this world but some people just hate other people because they have nicer things than they do. I couldn't imagine being that way but yet I encounter it everyday. Some people will just loathe you because you wear a nice watch or drive a nice car. Surely everyone on this forum of all places has encountered that many, many times in their lives... Yeah, I think I just admitted that - no?

An english professor once told me that all good stories have the ability to spark thought and garner opinions from all who read it. Good thing I didn't become a writer since I suck so bad at getting my point across. Oh well, I'll chalk this one up to failure. And now that I re-read my OP I guess i see why. Not exactly linear and easy to see the real point. I spent too much time on the details... Clearly, as the noob said, the masses can't be wrong here since the verdict is unanimous. That said, I'll graicously admit defeat. Although I must dispute the lethal and dangerous consensus as I hope you will all re-read the part where I tell you that I got the ticket on a highway. I doubt many here feel that 88 on a highway comes close to reckless - even in America. But if it is the will of the masses to paint me a demon who weaves in and out of school zones, so be it. But I hope cooler heads would prevail and realize that at 41, I'm hardly reckless in any way and I would hope not knowing me any better that you might give me the benefit of the doubt on that - even if you don't quite know what StevieJay the noob means when he says I am a lethal, dangerous, thoughtless...helmet? But please, take to heart at least some of what I said. Don't go judging others right away guys. A little benefit of the doubt will take you a long way in life. Sorry to if I sound like a preacher but some of you might want to consider why some of you feel the need to rush so quickly to judgement of a guy after reading a single paragraph... Stay tuned tomorrow for part 2, where I terrorize a group of unsuspecting tomato farmers with a Mini Cooper, a tub of axle grease and an electric dog polisher...

I was just thinking that Chinkie - I swear. Now that guy is the original RobbieG hater and I miss him. He is also obsessed with my money. Let's get him down here right now. He will sort this out right away.

Son, -Let's not get out of context there nooby. The charity statement is none of your business so don't make it so. I was making a reference to the other poster who was attacking my membership status as a way of judgeing me. I offered that as a reason why you might not want to judge people. -Right, who cares how much money I have? I don't nor do I ask you about yours. Why must you bring it up? - Huge fines? Is four hundred bucks a huge fine and reserved for the wealthy? What did I miss? - And since when is mentioning a brand of automobile classified as what do you say, "gushing" about it. Yeah, I got a Porsche and a Mini. I also had a 80' Toyota Tercel once and an 87' Golf and an 84' 318i and an Izuzu pickup truck. What is your point? You noobs are unbeliveable. Are you guys from RepGeeks or something? You don't like my thread don't read it. Where the personal attacks come from I haven't a clue. There is an old saying that goes, "Don't open your mouth till' you know what the shot is". Seems like a few people here need a lesson in getting the facts straight before hanging a guy for something they don't even understand. I'll say it again. This whole thread and the point of the story was that a cop didn't get my dry sense of humor and gave me an extra ticket for it. That's all folks...
-
God this is awesome. I have got to make a mental note to myself to remember to share more of my experiences here if only for entertainment value. I have never seen anything like this. I have so totally failed at painting the picture of these events that I will forever wonder if I have any ability at all to communicate. The perception is clearly that I'm somehow on the edge of something and yet I'm as proximal as could be in every way. Awesome, just awesome. Tomorrow I'll try and post video of where I was "speeding" and I'm sure all those who think me reckless will think better of it when they see the 4-lane highway I was on when I got the ticket. And the funny thing is that if any of you were visiting my town you would almost surely get caught in the same trap thinking you were still on the highway. That was the whole point. It is a KNOWN trap designed to create tickets. Me prefacing it all by saying that I drive fast is just me being honest. I don't like to slow down for needless traps. When I say I like to drive fast I mean relatively fast guys. Maybe the Porche was too much information? If I said it was a Subaru maybe the impression was different? And yet you are all so quick to materialize this picture in your mind of a guy weaving in and out of cross walks endangering children. Unbeliveable. It is especially funny as I was talking cars with another member who can back this up that I only live for short bursts of acceleration and I have never even come close to having my car at top speed. Maybe he will read this and cooroberate that. It scares me, truly. I just love hitting 60 in three and a half and that is literally the limit of what I ever do in my car 99% of the time. And yet you guys know nothing of that and you are ready to hang me for being an irresponsible madman weaving in and out of traffic. Sorry if I painted that picture. Let me try to point everyone back in the correct direction. The story wasn't about speeding. it was about a cop not getting my sense of humor and punishing me for that - not punishing me for speeding. Make sense now? In any case it never ceases to amaze me how the internet breeds such experts in judgement and by those who don't even stop to learn the details and are content to miss the whole point of something in a mad rush to convict with a hangable offense. Awesome, just awesome. I should start a whole satire series with my video camera complete with a sinsiter soundtrack where I go out and get in the car to prey on the innocent and purposefully hunt down redneck cops with my bloodlust. It would be like Christine all over again...
-
And he threatens me now. What a nice group of noobs we have here these days. Self examination? I think anyone looking at your avatar photo is probably pretty clear which of us is the more evolved human being here, and if not they might want to ask themselves why that is. Is your neck just slightly red or are we talking crimson?
-
Wow, now we are going to attack my membership too. I'm not sure where all the agression comes from. And where did I say I was rich I wonder? Because I revealed my built in budget of $500 a year for tickets? Yeah, wow RG must be loaded Or maybe it is my car? My watches? It seems like every time I get into a disagreement around here someone has to go making a wise off topic comment, like this one about the membership, and then there is usually another one or two slanted towards money in some way. Maybe should I not have said what car I was driving so as not to worry that I might be perceived as flaunting my wealth or something? I don't get it. I'm more than happy with my membership status. So let's get personal then shall we, hot shot. I just gave a big chunk of money to the Special Olympics after reading Lani's thread. Should I have upgraded my membership instead? How much did you give to charity this year big mouth? How about we put your Platinum membership and my charitible donations for just this year up on a poll and see what the membership feels is more important to the world dollar for dollar? Actually, I could care less but I think you see my point. I would never say that to you in the first place or otherwise call you out like that. Don't throw the gauntlet down on me son. It is uncalled for. You read my thread, you stated your opinions and I gave you mine which is what discussion on a forum is all about. You don't like me or how I spend my money - fine, keep it to yourself. And that goes for anyone else who cares to go beyond giving an opinion and personally attacking me in some way This all reminds me of my favorite line from one of my favorite movies - Good Will Hunting. When the guys go into the bar in Cambridge and they have the altercation with the Harvard student. Casey Affleck says, "Jesus, we've been here 5 minutes and already we run into a barney..."
-
No, but you are a Marine. Same thing apparently - given how you defend someone and a situation you know nothing about simply because he has a badge...
-
Well don't I just feel like a douchebag now. I had no idea my little story would stir up such passion or past experience and if I did I never would have posted it. But this is an internet forum and I guess varied opinions are to be expected. Stilty I am sincerely sorry for your losses, but just know that I was essentially on a highway with a trap speed limit and there were no cross walks. Despite my need for speed I do care deeply about the safety of others and myself. I don't have a deathwish nor do I wish to help anyone else with theirs... Again, sorry for your losses, but make no mistake I don't feel I'm above the law. Accidents happen at or under speed limits too unfortunately. People routinely travel above the speed limit even when not ticketed and I'm sure they are not all assholes or otherwise feeling they are above the law...
-
Amen brother. I wish I could have put it as elegantly as that. I obviously couldn't, but that is the spirit in which I intended my original joke to the little man. Alas, he did not get it...
-
And make no mistake, there was no fight and the law won nothing. The law wins when they give tickets to some poor guy who is hard on his luck and can't pay his bills as it is. Some guy got nailed tonight that was on his way home to his family with no ham because he got fired and that same [censored] didn't give him a warning either. Guys like me keep guys like him in check by letting him know that he couldn't possibly write enough tickets to ruin my day. I just feel bad for all the people he truly does succeed and injuring over nothing. So to that end I am pleased. As I said, I don't dispute my ticket. I deserve it and I'm glad to contribute those dollars to a worthy cause which is the budget of the wonderful county I live in. Looking at it that way keeps it all in perspective for me. But I don't have to pay the money and witstand a shitty attitude from a miserable man. I look at it as I get to say what half the people he was writing tonight were thinking, but they couldn't afford to risk telling him how they felt. Everything in life is assesment of risk for me. Probably a side effect of the business I'm in. No matter. I do appreciate the heartfelt respones and I'll take them all to heart. But in the end, I just thought I would tell a funny story of what happened to me on the way back from the ham store.
-
Not in this town. But I appreciate your concern. Moreover I was not aware speeding was acting like a jerkoff.
-
And that is exacly the point really. I expect tickets as a consequence of my actions. I look at it like it is just a fixed cost of owning a fast car. I know I have to factor in a minimum of $500 a year to my operating costs. That said, today changes nothing. I just thought it funny to tell the story and I'm not flaunting anything to him or otherwise. And even if I did what difference would it make? I'm still driving a car that is a magnet for every cop and I never go the speed limit. I'm going to get a ticket if I get caught whether he tells his buddies about me or not. Cops don't write warnings to anyone driving an expenive car where I live. They figure if you are in a $130,000 car you can pay the ticket. And in fairness they are usually right about that. So my whole point is why not speak your mind if it won't change any future outcome. There is no price for the action now or in the future. And respectfully, I disagree that I took it personal. I just made a joke and he needs to lighten up. I only made it personal after the tint ticket. He brought it on himself. He wasn't doing his job then. He was being a [censored]. So I was a [censored] back to him. Don't get me worng, he was ABSOLUTELY 100% right to give me a ticket. I broke the law and I deserve it. But I don't deserved to be punished for being self depricating...
-
Yes, $80 is a bargain to me as I wasn't being a smartass in the first place. I guess I get what you mean though. I just don't think that way I guess. If it ever costs me $80 to make a joke unilaterally so be it, but the day I have to censor making fun of myself for fear that another person (especially one I don't know might take it the wrong way then what is the point of living? Life is too short. The funny thing is expression tells all. Upon driving off it was clear that his intent was to ruin my day and yet I was smiling and he was scowling. It is his day that was ruined and meanwhile I'm the one with the tickets. I can pay the fines and not give it another thought but there is no reset button for what troubles him. I bet he wishes he could pay a fine to rid himself of what troubles that festering malice inside him...
