  1. Nothing new (or old or classic) here unfortunately - although obviously I'm not complaining either... This running errands in cargo shorts and a good ole' Old Navy pocket tee... and this later for dinner with Lucky's and a collared long sleeve Zegna...
  2. Buying for the sake of buying makes no sense to me. The real question is why would several watches be better than one watch? The question should be re-vamped to better understand your self and your own needs and motivations. If you don't love that gen, sell it, but have an idea what you want to replce it with first. More is nver more in my experinence after many years of collecting. I find I get the most enjoyment from really giving a lot of thought to the watches I choose to own as opposed to what I used to do which was just buy and buy thinking I would fill all the voids by doing so. Now I keep trimming down but with each cut I grow more attached to the core watches in my collection as I'm forcing myself to really consider if I love a piece or not. Maybe you might want to sell the watch you have and there is one otgher gen that you might like instead? Rep or gen isn't the issue. Sell the Omega if it doesn't inspire you anymore, but don't just spend all you get for it on a bunch reps just because you don't know what else to do. I'll bet you whatever that if you do, it won't be long before you tire of your choices and then you will be selling at least some of those reps at a loss again because you jumped the gun. Just trying to save you some money. Trust me, I could have practically financed a small country with the money I wasted by jumping the gun on watch purchases and I learned the hard way because I've done it with gens more than reps. I even bought a gen AP Millenary and a Big Pilot and a Glashutte all on whims only to realize I could care less about them a week later for not giving thought as to why i was doing it other than i thought they were cool. Those were expensive mistakes. Buy one watch at a time and not until you really are sure you love it and I think you will get the maximum enjoyment from this hobby. .02
  3. Just make up your mind to finally come out of the closet and you will eventually be recognized D...
  4. Excuse my language but that is just way f'n cool. Size? 45MM-ish? Edit: I just search it and found them. 46MM I see and dirt cheap too - three hundred bucks, go figure. Too bad this dial seems to be sold out. My brother would love it and I was going to grab one for him. Don't like the other dials near as much as this one...
  5. Fantastic. Love the AR. Kind of shares qualities with some of my favorite watches I currently own or have in the past. It has traits of Breitling's Aeromarine line as well as Omega's Seamaster line and Sinn of course - broadly speaking. Those traits are more than a good thing in my book. I'm curious how you sought this out and chose it over other brands though. I wasn't aware of this watch and just wondering how you ended up getting this as opposed to something more obvious like a PO or a Steelfish or Sinn 757 or something? I would think they are all in around the same sub $3K price range. Do tell...
  6. I know Freddy has a Patek he likes a lot. There are no good Lange reps for sure. There are a couple decent Vacheron reps, including this Malte I once had that I traded to a member in AZ recently. Here it is. It is really very, very accurate in most every way. Even the movement kind of looks like what is in the genuine watch. The subdial spacing is wider due to the movement difference and in this case it makes the watch look smaller not bigger, but without the gen side by side it is very passable. The strap is not the stock rep strap which are almost always terrible except on some of the newer sport watch reps. This strap is a glazed dress aligator from Banda...
  7. Another lie. Pugwash has already established that I am the new Jetmid - except that I don't have a jet or a $50K Patek. But if I ever do I'll be sure to let the membership know...
  8. Now that is a vintage DJ dial you don't see everyday Freddy. Bravo...
  9. As I read the respponses I can only come to the conclusion that the outcome should be decided by those who are injured and it probably isn't any of the rest of our business. The other forums can do as they like, but the members of RWG who were injured (Bytor, Pug, and anyone else I'm not mentioning that are kind of known to home base here) should really be the ones to decide what they think is the best resolution if there is even a best one. John if you are so sure you deserve to be banned, why not just resign and be done with it rather than let Bytor, the admin, whoever decide whether you shouls stay so as not to burden them further if your assumption is that you couldn't hang around here without shame anyway? A valid question I think from a guy who could care less about any of it as it never concerned me...
  10. Interesting but I kind o wish the innacurate color on the rep was on the genuine myself. I like the look better with non-white dial fonts. Goes better with the gold IMO and the pure white just doesn't look right. Why would they do this I wonder? So as to be able to use the same dial on both steel and TT watches or am I missing something and they are different somehow in another way? I also personally don't think the green dial or green hand look right with yellow gold. I especially dislike the green dial. Love the green on the steel though. For me, the best TT and FG Rolex sports watches are still the classic ones...
  11. This today... And this for jacketed dinner later at the Ritz with clients - they are paying...
  12. Well John, I choose my battles and forum politics has never been one of them. I have also had some bad experiences with members at other forums and as such I have chosen to only be a member of this one after once being involved with all of them. I also didn't really follow all of this so closely as I would have had to venture away from here to do so, and as I said I just don't do that anymore. That said, yes what you did is sh*tty with a capital S and you should be ashamed. You should also ask what is lacking in your life that you have the time to do all this? It is one thing to post a lot but when you start going over the edge with stuff like this that can damage solid reputations bad things happen. But I will say I think it is honorable that you have owned up to all that you caused like a man. I'm sure for that some of the powers that be and ones you have hurt will treat you with more leniency - whatever that means. It takes a man to admit his wrongs and for that I give you respect...
  13. I was wearing this... but changed to this cause I watched Casino Royal in the office this afternoon before the close out of boredom. I put this on before showtime just to be weird. In any case note the classic RobbieG work attire which consists of silk pajamas. Now that is more weird than changing watches for a movie I guess...
  14. Yeah that makes sense, the Portugese chrono is really nice all around. Just curious which configuration you happen to like? People seem pretty split on these. I think I like the silver dial with gold hands lately, but mostly because I'm sick of viagra blue on watches lately despite its rich history and supposed coolness of flame bluing. The black dial with polished steel hands is a runner too...
  15. Careful about using the term geeks here. As Lani would say, that is a term used to describe the other movie which is Sparta... Anyway, the answer to your question is probably that you don't want to know the answer. The risks far outweigh the potential reward. Spending over two thousand dollars for a fake anything is silly. A guy told me the other day that he had found some great counterfeit Armani Collezini suits on the web and they were only $1200. Meanwhile, I just spent $1900 for a made to measure of the same thing direct from Italy. The spread just isn't big enough. If they were $300 maybe I could see swinging at it. The discount hardly seems worth the risk he took of sending money unsecured to China and the risk that it won't be anywhere near the quality he is expecting or treated with a chemical he may be allergic to or it doesn't fit right and on the return even if he can find the guy customs grabs it or whatever. With these watches, for the same money you could have a new gen Omega or Breitling and for a bit more a really nice real used Rolex. I think you see my point. Risk is a good thing always in anything worth doing, but what you win has to exceed what you lose.. And in the case of the watches you speak of, as well as my Armani example it just doesn't hold up...
  16. I'm lucky enough to own the gen, but I'm pulling for my brothers here to finally see a good rep of this. No reason not to. Seagull 2892 clone with PR module and presto... If not that right away, I'll bet you see this first. This one gets done with the A7750 layout and since the makers are obsessed with that movement of late I would expect you see this before the MMD. Which dial or dials they would do and whether it will be only on the rubber strap or also the bracelet is a big question mark... or any of these other variants...
  17. Just a side note that in order to have a chrono I could maybe sacrifice the PO and swap in the Aquatimer for my three. But since I have a hard time living without the PO it may be more practical to swap in a chrono UN as opposed to the MMD as an alternative. Diesel brings up an interesting point. I think everyone needs a chronograph in the three to be practical...
  18. Yes Delta. You can have all the straps and bezels/inserts you like. That is part of the fun in gaining versatility with less watches and for me a criteria for selection on a couple of my choices. Two or more watches in one is always better... PS - I like your three a lot. Well thought out. BTW, I had a 5004 for some time. I think it is the nicest quality watch IWC makes. All I have is an Aquatimer now which design wise is really cool, but is just average fit an finish wise. I love the design of the 5004 also - a ton, but its size turns me off. I have 7.5" wrists but I'm only 5'8" / 160 with a slim athletic build. It just looks cartoonish on me. Even 44MM PAMs are pushing it for me. I do well with 42MM in sports watches and as long as the proportions are correct 44MM is the outer limit, but some 44's are too clunky. And as such things like DJ's and DD's don't look tiny on me either. But if I could wear larger watches I might also have the 5004 and some sort of PAM in my three.
  19. Wow. This is why I come here. Learn something new every day. Never saw this before. Now that is one amazing looking Tourby. Such an interesting design...
  20. I would have thought sure an IWC sport watch would be in there - The Slevin or the GST...
  21. Well that is just it, so humor us Pug. If, and I understand you might not want to ever have to choose as many here don't, but if you did, what three gens would you own (or reps if you would rather have then than gens as some would)?
  22. Interesting responses guys. Many are not what I would expect. Keep them coming...
  23. I love these threads as it is most fun to read the outcomes. I tend to do a post like this every so often. I thought about doing it with only one watch, but as collectors of our magnitude it just isn't ever going to happen. I'll eat my hat if anyone here will ever realistically have one watch and only one watch. But three is a reasonable goal for a quality/not quantity move. I think it is a good challenge for any collector to ponder what he would chose if face with this decision as it helps us to force ourselves to think about not just what we like and don't like which is the usual, but more on the lines of what we can't live without so to speak. In any case, have fun... So the basic idea is starting tomorrow, you have decided to sell all your reps and gens and come up with three realistic watches for your budget that you will have to live with for the rest of your life. Please be honest in choosing watches that you know you can afford - assuming that all of us could figure out how to buy say, three 5K-ish or less watches. In other words, even if you can't really afford it, imagine that you had 15K to spend for the three and that would cover everyone. The point of the filter here is I don't want to read people choosing Lange Double Splits unless he really could afford one, so try to be honest about your choices. I must admit that one of my choices is definitely more than I would ever want to spend on any one watch, but since I can technically make it happen I am allowing myself to include it. I would also like to see pics of the choices along with why you chose it. Choose carefully. Remember, you have to live with them forever. I'll start. I am fortunate enough to have two of my three already and I should have the third before long. Waiting for some metals pricing to move through the industry. LOL. Anyway my first is the PO because we all need a black bezeled dive watch right? The PO to me is great and beats my second choice, The Sub because of its versatility and because I love the AR on this watch. I feel like I get two for one as changing between the bracelet and rubber gives two totally different purposes for me. Next up is the UN MMD for the same reason. I want to have a slightly more blingy/dressy yet sporty watch and this is the best of the best in my mind. Kind of like the same use as one would have for a Yachtmaster but mo' bettah as they say in the islands! As with the PO, the rubber strap with metal elements adds a nice dimension of versatility here - although I prefer the bracelet. But knowing I have the rubber makes me feel like I could always squash boredom if I felt the need to... Finally, everyone needs a dressier watch and for me after searching far and wide the classic 36MM Rolex design tugs at my heart strings. I have a rhodium roman DJ now , but I am going to trade up to the ultimate dressRolex - the Glacier blue dialed platimum Day-Date with smooth bezel and roman dial on president bracelet shown here. I also like that you could swap in the fluted bezel if you liked as well as changing to an Oyster bracelet if you wanted a change, but I can't imagine ever wanting to. It's just - well..., perfect if you ask me. It is only 36MM but it literally jumps off the wrist at yards away in person and I have never seen a pic that does it justice, nor have I seen any larger watch of any size command the presence of richness that it does. It is in large part the design but also the materials, particularly the metal. Nobody does metal like Rolex. So those are my three and believe it or not I wouldn't be surprised if I actually lived out this exercise in real life pretty soon. I can't imagine ever really feeling like I was bored if I only had these three as they get 80%+ of my attention now even with the SS DJ instead of the PT DD. I'll look forward to seeing what you all would choose. Fun exercise no?
  24. Here here. To anyone in the US fortunate to have enough extra for a bunch of watches, why not skip the next one and give a few bucks to these guys - or someone similar you like better? A lot of people don't give to charities because they think too little won't help. Not true. Even a couple hundred can go to great use for someone in need... http://www.dav.org/donations/
  25. I know this is probably a stupid question but have there been any GTG's in South Florida or are they otherwise ongoing? Anyway, obviously I have lived here for a while and never met anyone here in person. So just a heads up that I would love to meet some guys at one if any one else is up for it. If there is a regular organizer for this area give me a heads up on the usual suspects and how often these things go off...
