Excellent. What is the purse?

Are you sure you want it at any price? My point is I'm certain that once you get more and more into collecting I'll bet you eventually wouldn't really want to own a quartz watch from any brand. If you want an Omega, even a Seamaster specifically, there are tons of other variants rep and gen that you will be satisfied with for a lifetime. Take this advice who learned the hard way. Don't buy ANY gen you are on the fence about. Your first instinct is telling you that a compromise is afoot. That is what reps are for as the learning experience is cheap. If you buy any gen make sure you love it and until you are sure don't bother...

I don't see any problem sanding the bridges smoother and then rebrushing them as long as it was done nice and level so it looks right and doesn't interfere with the screwing down of the bridge. In other words, if you sand too much I would wonder if it would be possible to overtighten something. Other than that I would think you could do it though the engraving will still be a bit too thick and sloppy but I bet the new brideg finish would be an improvement for sure...

The only way I'll ever fight a Scottsman is if he agrees to make and bake me a Shepards Pie afterward win, lose or draw. I'm not sure Neil could pull that off as he may not be able to find the perfect ingredients where he lives these days...

Well the main thing is whether you intend to wear it and genuinely love it or not in my experience. It is never prudent to let it sit and collect dust in any case. Much better to sell it for a loss if any of the cash generated can succeed in scoring you a watch that you love more. Just food for though coming from a guy who had a lot of watches I was afraid to sell for fear of booking the loss (quite a nasty one with the group in question in my case) but eventually realized I gained nothing from letting them sit and the more they aged the bigger the loss would be as the years past. Anyway, just giving you another angle to look at it from. Whatever you decide it will be the right choice for you and that is all that matters of course. Good luck in any case!
-
Yeah, what B16 said. Pretty big range on those. If I were selling it I would do this first: Go to the sales corner at Timezone and search the piece. You will find "comps" to use a real estate term of all the watches sold recently and then you will know the best listing price for today's market. Hope that helps...

I feel for you frustration but it wouldn't work. They would just be happy that their loved ones went to the promised land with honor. That is why it is so difficult to fight radical religious fanatics - Islamic or otherwise. It has nothing to do with Islam of course, they are just fu*king nuts. I mean what the h*ll did the Indians ever do to anyone? Such gentle people. What a shame. One could even rationalize why they would attack us if one looked for enough idealistic reasons, but India? It just goes to show how twisted those ideals really are. All should say a prayer for them. So very, very sad are these times.

No it is not the 45.5MM. According to Omega it is the 42MM in this film, plus you can tell. Daniel is not a big guy nor does he have big wrists just because he is muscular. The smaller watch wears bigger on steel and the larger watch wears smaller on rubber. The large size on steel would look way bigger on him and to me it is very clear that the watch in these photos is a 42MM watch. http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=967 He did wear the 45.5MM version on rubber in Casino Royal though... For comparision, here is my 42MM on my 7.5" wrists. As big as anyone would ever want it I would think. It wears way smaller on rubber though so it is no wonder they used the 45.5MM for that in the last film if they wanted it to really pop. The 42MM on rubber is far more understated...

Fair enough - and I now have my answer. Sounds like my kind of place. I'll be right over...

You guys might be interested to hear I just now got another citation. This time for an illegal U-turn. I made another smart assed remark too. I said, "Turning around and going the other way on a whim huh? Good thing you were here to handle it. Before you know it, hundreds might have followed in my footsteps, then where would we be?" And I was smiling when I said it. And she (yup, it was a woman) just looked at me, smiled and said, "You are lucky I think you are kinda funny or I wouldn't be giving you a warning. Better obey the signs cause you might not get me next time, smart ass." So then I say, "Yeah, tell me about it. I'm sure you saw on the screen when you ran me that I got someone else on Wednesday and that pr*ck has absolutely no sense of humor." With that she flashed a very knowing smile... See, a warning, not a ticket, and I had the exact same attitude as before. Only this time I got a cop who was confident in herself and didn't have anything to prove. Life and its actions and reactions are all about perception. We all have a choice as to how we will handle things. Oh, and yes, I was in the Porsche this time also. I wonder if the outcome would be the same if I had the Mini instead? Or if the cop that pulled me over was Jetmid - or his sister?

Oh no doubt my friend. I absolutely LOVE that Jake and Pug had the good sense to start comparing me to that guy. Just awesome. It is especially interesting that he sort of made a career of making stuff up which was absurd and drawing agression that way and I manage it simply by revealing a playful side to my personality or happening to mention that I drive a luxury car or own some genuine watches, which from all I know here probably 3/4's of us here do. And yet despite all this common knowledge the references to a guy who pretended to have his own jet and a fleet of 50k Patek's and an imaginary billion dollar lifestyle keep coming. Certainly has peaked my interest. I'll give you that. We love luxury watches, but if we should mention a luxury car it draws comparisions to Jetmid? Wow. It provides me a chuckle each time I realize that there actually are people who really don't know the difference between Jetmid and I. Makes me wonder what other simple distinctions they can't make, which I find particularly frightening. But no matter as I think I know why... In any case it is fun to push the envelope and see how many people actually think I am crazy or pricky or both after reading a post which was specifically designed to garner that response - despite the other 900+ posts that reveal nothing more than that I'm just a regular guy with a regular career who lives in a regular town who collects regular watches just like everyone else - despite my 5 year old beater car and my questionable HIGHWAY driving habits and willingness to pay a speeding ticket when I deserve to get it once in a while. And I do admit I like to mix it up a bit and keep people guessing. Is he really that much of a d*ck or is he just fu*king with us? I think it is painfully obvious since I have gone out of my way to present clues to the contrary, but then some of my critics don't seem to be the sharpest knives in the drawer as it were so I suppose I'm not surprised. Which makes me want to go the other way to be honest and make it easier to cement their already twisted view. Believe it or not I'm actually a fairly private person, which is why I'm drawn to the annonymity of the internet. Pretty common tale really. To that end it isn't really a goal as it may be for many here to accurately portray my personality at all and to that end it is much easier to be hated than be loved I suppose if the alternative is to truly be myself in every way. Then I would have to let my guard down and we can't have that can we? It is sort of a paradox though as there are actually a few people here who do know my true nature and get a kick out of my rants like this one. But I'm just not one of those people who "plays himself" in the forum. I suppose I do to some extent in that I don't stretch any truth or factual stuff, but the personality, yes, exponentially so I might add. All that anyone will ever really know is the facts which is that I'm 41, recently engaged and deeply in love, a private person who works mostly alone, and my job is that of a workaholic trader who owns a small private equity hedge fund and trading software company and that I live and work in South Florida. Then again was I really serious in telling you all that, or did I just act all serious just then when I wrote that? Maybe I really am being myself in every way and I am revealing every side of my personality on every post? The world will never know. And why should they? Where is the fun in that? And besides - nobody cares. Nobody. I think it funny when people actually get offended by what faceless people say or do to them on the internet. We act like we care, but we really don't. Nobody cares about you and nobody cares about me. We are all just faceless names and avatars who have come together mostly to talk about watches so what difference does it make - even if I actually AM Jetmid? RobbieG, Trailboss, Insertyournamehere it is all a crock of sh*t to pass the time and enjoy our hobby... Anyway, I was actually considering coming over to check out your forum today. What I just said notwithstanding, this is only one post and one side of my forum personality - whatever that means - so back to where I at least act sane which is when I talk about watches for a second... I think most people familiar with my contribution to this community pretty much know that I do belong here in that respect, but if the consensus of your crew over there is to treat me like I have been at RWI I think I'll have to pass. If you are serious that is, so let me know if you are and I'll act accordingly as I honestly can't tell anymore. It just sounds like you are kind of laughing at me and not with me, which I don't really get as I don't personally do that but if that is your thing so be it. Oh and a word to the wise, I wouldn't make refernce to RWI too loudly when trying to get people to come to your new forum. There are plenty of people extremely turned off by that whole crew over there and who I'm sure wouldn't want to think for a minute that they would find more of the same at RWG1. And this isn't a smartass question I swear, but what could RWG1 possibly offer me that I can't get here - assuming I am truly welcome there and I should decide to join?

Welcome aboard! Now all we need is an alternative for the states for those who aren't as lucky as some of us in having a local guy. I'll be interested to hear the future good things about your work. Again, welcome to RWG. -
Remembering 2008 with RWG .. Time Capsule ~
RobbieG replied to lanikai's topic in General Discussion
2008 was an interesting year for me here and elsewhere. I guess being that I showed up in '06, I'm kind of part of the OG crowd - at least here if not to the industry, but I never really was a big poster until '08. I would only post pictorial threads really back then. So this was the year for me. I went from under a hundred posts to nearly a thousand now and I have to say this place has become very dear to me. I enjoy the many personalities (and have at least three of my own depending on the thread, LOL - hopefully people know not to take me too seriously!) and the opinions and the dedication of others which always keeps mine in check. There is always someone here doing more or going the extra mile a little more than the previous guy. The bar is just very, very high. I am a proud workaholic (no kids yet, so I still can!) and have a job that involves a lot of sitting and waiting for a lot of hours and RWG is pivotal to fill the hours all day and half the night sometimes for me and I cherish my time here. I want to thank all those that truly contribute here and taught me the value of that. You know who you are. Now for some watch talk: 2008 was also a year of some other changes settling in for me watch wise. Before this year I was a pretty ravenous rep guy, always surfing and looking for the next thing to feed the need, but I discovered that for me personally I could get more enjoyment out of replicas in another way. Mindless buying every new watch was just not filling the void and I found myself standing at the box confused each morning as I didn't know what my collection was really all about. I decided I most wanted to be a watch owner as opposed to a collector and it was a big step for me. So how to go about that and what changes might I make? I started asking myself a simple question and initially had no intention of acting on it. The question was this: Of all these replicas I own, which of them do I like enough so as I could actually see myself buying the gen? WOW. Amazing what happened. At that time my answer was none of them, despite a substantial collection. Pretty sobering really to know that you wouldn't even like them more if you had the gen instead! Then I asked the same questions about a few gens I had at that time. Same deal. Wow again! So I sold off all my watches and started over making a pact to start with reps and only keep a watch if I could justify getting the gen because I loved it that much. So from this point on the plan was to own a rep long enough to know whether I really loved it enough to justify getting the gen if I felt like the modding process was something I didn't want to bother with. Many, many watches failed that test, but I got to have fun with those reps just the same for cheap without blowing money and taking a bigger loss on a gen if I wasn't going to love it. But the plan wasn't to buy the gens at all - it was supposed to just be a way to evaluate which reps I would keep. A funny thing happened which was totally unplanned though. I realized I loved the first watch so much that no rep would ever do. I knew that I was going to have to do some mods to get it right and wasn't really up for the project. Usually to be truly happy I will need to mod the rep or even turn it into a franken - don't we all, right? But I'm just not a guy who ever liked that process like many here do. So for me, since I'm not realistically going to do the mods, sometimes the gen is my only option to get what I really want. Anyway, the watch that started it all was the Planet Ocean and before getting the gen I had owned the best verison of the 42MM and eventually the 45.5MM verison before getting the smaller version of the gen. But I would have never even known about the watch if not for RWG and this one was the first gen that grew out of my love for a rep... Other watches followed. Next up was the venerable Rolex Datejust. I had owned several reps with a few different dials and again I just knew that I wanted to have the "ultimate" version in my collection when I asked that pivotal question once more. The franken route seemed too daunting and since I couldn't live with a stock rep, I was off to gen land once more. Ultimately this is what found its way into my collection, and like the PO I couldn't imagine not having it thanks to falling in love with the rep... Next, it was the IWC Aquatimer - or "Slevin" as Pug coined it. I was always a fan of this watch and when it was repped I loved it instantly. There wasn't a second of hesitation on this one. I considered getting the gen right away and had a good justification for it - they didn't rep the Ti version which was my favorite. The biggest issue was whether or not to keep the steel version rep. I decided it was overkill and just kept this which like the others fills a void and I will always have it... Then there was another that was practically instant, The mighty SFSO. It was Bytors review that sent me to the rep. That rep is so nice I almost didn't get the gen on this one, but I did after all - in the blue dial just like his reveiw. In this case I mostly only got the gen because I got an amazing deal on a grey market one and I had sold the relumed version of the rep to a local friend. The gen is of course a amazing, as is the rep in every way and the best value for the money in a lower priced sports watch IMO... Next up I had to deal with my arch nemesis - the PAM's! What to do? Love them. Hate them. I was never a died in the wool PAM guy (you know who you are) but I felt I wanted to have one piece because of the iconic design. I knew it would be a standard 44MM Marina style case. But which one? I had them all. 111, 177, 63, 009, and others for only a day at a time sometimes. Finally I realized it was too much of a struggle to land on something and live with the flaws, but I really didn't like any PAM enough to justify a gen if I was being totally honest. I decided to ride the fence and build an homage watch instead. The cost of that represented my level of love for the design. Just perfect. I also already had plenty of great straps! Anyway I finally settled on this, which is I suppose a gen after all... I had another dark period though no so long ago. I had been doing fairly well and had some extra money burning a hole in my pocket and I got foolish. I deviated from my plan to only buy gens after falling in love with reps and went on a buying spree mostly on impulse while traveling. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID. And a funny thing happened with all but one of them. They sat in the box collecting dust. It cost me alot of money in losses but I took the hit I deserved and sold them off - an AP, a Droz, a Sinn, a Rolex, another Rolex, a Big Pilot, a GO, ridiculous. All gens. I got absolutely killed financially for being so reckless. It probably cost me nearly twenty grand between them on the arbitrage between what I paid and what I ultimately sold them for. It pisses me off to even have to admit that to myself, let alone all of you. There has only been one watch that I still have to this day that has nothing to do with replica collecting and that is this one, which I have talked about so much I need not describe. But I hear told at least one great UN rep is coming soon. These watches are simply - amazing... So in closing, 2008 has been a great year for me watch wise and otherwise. I have learned alot about myself and my true wants and needs. The biggest change has been "Less is More". That concept has crept into every corner of my life. I'm not wasteful anymore and it is because of watches. Less watches, less clothing, less cars, less crap in the houses and garages and offices, everything. I have learned to appreciate all that I have. I'm sitting looking at my watch box right now and there are only 7 pieces in there and one of them is sold and waiting to ship out when funds clear. And the 6 that remain I am honest in saying I couldn't imagine not having them. I literally stand in front of that box now and most times I can't choose one to wear. I have to close my eyes and grab randomly as I love them all that much. Before I go, I would like to answer once and for all a question that seems to get put to me alot here lately and that is, "Being that your whole collection is genuine watches, what the hell are you doing here?" I'll tell you. The answer is because I love watches, not replica or genuine watches - just watches. And this is where the TRUE watch lovers are. Sure, I'm a member on TZ and I do post my pictorials there also. But it isn't a community of passionate people in my experience. Most are snobs if I am to be truthful. They buy watches for status and not because they like to just sit for hours and stare at the dials and cases like us nuts do! RWG isn't a replica forum. It is a forum of good people who have a common bond in that they all love the mechanical wristwatch and that is why I am here. Plus, there is still a method to my madness. I still buy replicas and I'm very much on the hunt for the next one always, just like everyone else here. And if I like it in pictures, I'll buy the rep. And if I fall in love again as I have with these few watches here, I just might be getting another gen - we shall see how it moves me. But you can rest assured that I will be giving it some thought, and that is what I feel is the greatest gift that this community has given me. Life for me is about learning and growing. I have learned here to be a more thoughtful consumer through this process I describe and for that I am forever in it's debt. I have also made many great friends in the process. Thank you RWG, and happy 2009! -
Good thing I don't live in Hollywood huh? And back to a bit of seriousness concerning the OP... I suspect even in So Cal it is no different in that you need friends in high places to keep stuff like that in check. If you don't have them, you are right and if they felt like fu*king with you a guy could get screwed pretty easily. But my little buddy here knows better than to try something like that and if he did he would get the short end of that stick. One of the benefits of being in a small town. He knows everybody knows everybody and he isn't going to risk that I might know the wrong person. He would be right. I do. Two of my clients are circuit judges and I play golf with another who is at the state level. I could fight the tickets I have and probably call in some favors and squash them, but like I said, I did the crime and I deserve a ticket. I think it is tacky when people call their judge friends every five minutes to wipe their a*ss and take care of theor parking tickets. I just don't do that. But trust me, my boys have all heard the story just in case this should ever escalate... OK now back to silly stuff. Jake? Did you think of anything funny yet?

Yeah I did see Obama's Tag. I think I thought it was an older quartz model no? And yes, teh Day Date is always going to be the most likely choice. After all it started to be called The President for just that reason. Now we sort of take for granted that President is used to describe the style of bracelet on a Day Date, but there was a time when that was different...

Thanks Dave. I have to get the most traction I can out of the titles as the rest is dying on the vine. I keep trying to change it up as I stopped being serious after the first few posts. Unfortunately there is no anecdote for the caustic comments in the thread itself anymore since they keep saying the same stuff. So I have been hoping the title changes might spark something new. Oh well, I tried. And I remember you from RG when I still visited the other forums. You always seemed a direct guy with his own opinions who also enjoys life, has a sense of humor and doesn't let anyone bring him down. In that way it seems like we are at least a bit alike. I wish there were more of us though. If there were you wouldn't be the first one to comment on some of the goofy thread titles... OK then. I'm gonna go back over that Harp Seal one more time...
-
Exactly. I was over but it started again because people kept posting - and you keep coming back to look. I can't pass up any chance to draw more agression from the passion police. Plus it just wouldn't be right to let my detailer have the last word. And you are right about the thread being called "You all got messed with..." I have got to change the title. And I'll keep posting as long as there is such passionate interest in cutting me up. Who is messing with who? You missed the point again there piker. I'm still the one "messing" for one obvious reason: I'm still kidding and you and the few other hangers on are still DEAD serious... Dead serious about your rancid opinions of a guy you most certainly don't know based on some stuff you read on the internet. Who is the joke on? It seems to me that the joke is on you until you learn to start making fun of yourself instead of trying to reverse everything and quote what I say to try and cut me down. Do you have any thoughts or ideas of your own that are even the least bit funny?

Week-end wrist check (28-30 november 2008)
RobbieG replied to Stephane's topic in General Discussion
Friday the PO on rubber because I just watched Casino Royal on DVD. I'll switch to the steel when I watch Solace to be a dork... And busting out the homage for TeeJay on Saturday since I haven't joined my PAM brothers in a while. I've got the camel tan suede HK Tan on it now.. -
Jake, seriously, I'm not kidding around anymore. If you don't get my jet waxed and ready for takeoff in the next 30 minutes I'm not going to let you ride in back with us millionaires and fondle our tax returns any more. It will be luggage compartment for you young man and while you are in there, don't forget to retrieve my damn Lithium out of my suitcase. I want to shoot another 20cc's before we touch down in Monaco tomorrow.
-
I'm adding you to my friends list because... Thank GOD someone finally gets it. Precisely what I have been after for days now. NONE of us should take ourselves, our opinions, or any one else's opinions, views, actions, moral ground or otherwise too seriously unless we can find a way to laugh about it. And you can rest assured I will most certainly continue to post things that are controversial to either challenge thinking or stir the pot or probably a little of both. I'll continue to do it until I see the hatred and passion wane regardless of who its directed at. Until that day, which I'm sure will never come, I might as well be entertained watching the masses become disturbed over essentially nothing. I'm always amazed at the kind of passion that can be stirred up with a few sentences - in this case regrding a mundane event like a speeding ticket on a throughway. Maybe next I should actually make up something much more sinister? Then what would they say about me? You know, if I did something really evil? How about this? So I was driving along (in my Enzo of course - that I bought off Jake) minding my own business and I hit a fire hydrant (because I was looking at a stack of thousand dollar bills laying on the seat instead of watching the road). The hydrant flew up in the air and fell on a baby harp seal killing him instantly. I then skinned him and used his hide for a PAM strap which I wore to an illegal dog fight where I won money wagering with OJ Simpson who admitted to the killings but I decided not to tell anyone because I felt he deserved to be free because after all, what is really worng with killing your wife and her friends?
-
A day late and a dollar short brother. The core of the OP and its ommissions and inaccuracies have been hashed out already. We moved past that to pure nonsense at my direction hours ago... I'm evil. That is common knowledge around here. What we are trying to determine now is why...

How often are you called out about your rep?
RobbieG replied to chompawompa's topic in The Breitling Area
I haven't worn any of the few Rolex reps I have owned out much, and I have never been called out wearing one of those or any other rep watch from other brands so far but... I have owned several gen Rolex watches over the years and in fact still have one in my collection now. The funny thing is I have been called out for wearing a rep Rolex twice in my life - and both times I was wearing a gen. I think a lot of people just assume that most Rolex watches in the wild these days are fake. And I think that is a fairly accurate statement. It's at least even money for sure, watch for watch with most any sample size... -
Interesting slant Freddy. Never thought of the political angle before and I think you are on to something. Do you remember what each of those you mentioned wore/wears? I always think of LBJ when thinking of the Day Date. But Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon and Ford all wore DD's too, so maybe that watch is too iconic and has to be removed from any aristocratic/proletarian divisions, or the Rolex partisanship seems to be otherwise fairly equally split?
