Yes, I stand corrected. I am usually guilty of not giving Patek props as their designs have always left me flat and I never pay attention to what they are doing. A lot of my freinds have them and they are always fragile and breaking. But that is another thread... So that is why I always think of Lange with the mini-rotors. BTW, I also had a GO PanomaticReserve. It was nice but I never wore it. Now when I think of GO I always think of the "butterfly" double balance cocks. Man, is that design ever beautiful or what?

I'm pretty certain you are reading a bit too far into the significance of the poster experiment. Kind of paradox don't you think? Given that BP's are not sold in trash malls or airline catalogs I mean...
-
Hey that is really cool Wheaton. And I know how much you have always loved the BP. Glad you finally got one.

It is a genuine replica of a replica genuine. They sort of cancel each other out. It is either a gen that looks like a replica or a replica that looks like a gen. No doubt that whatever it is half of everybody won't believe you. LOL. Just kidding. Nice watch and good score. Although the lighting helps keep it vague as the gold looks quite brown. The case finishing is particulary rough as well. Certainly, the watch has seen some wars... Also, FYI to the previous poster - The A serial watches are from 1998 and it just so happens that non-brushed bracelet side links is correct as is having no gold on the clasp of course.

I'm sure you know me too if you know him given my long history with him, but I have to keep that part of my past a secret. Especially here. Good to be retired from that life though. I had a good run but didn't want to be on the road anymore. I wonder how all the guitar guys do it these days. The venues are smaller and I wonder how they make the numbers work so they can make a profit. It costs so much to be on the road. Even in my day it would take a quarter million bucks just to launch a record at retail and do some basic marketing - listing stations at Border's, promo tours, etc. The biz has changed so much. In my day (although at the tail end) you could still be an instrumentalist and be on a major label as I was and make a good living. You didn't get lynched for only selling a hundred thousand records. Now, if you don't go platinum in a week you are going to get shelved. That is why music is by and large so bad now, IMO. Everything is lowest common denominator. Oh well, I'm glad to see the fine art of luthiery is still alive and well. Nothing like a fine handmade acoustic guitar.

Really nice. And a very Lange-esq mini rotor. Love that look!

DSN is the worst. He has never, ever sent one watch to me that was right. I have got POS remnant dials with crooked fonts, wrong lumes, stripped threads, and even different watches than the pre-ship pictures he sends in advance. I even waited 3 months for a replacement dial once based on one of his mistakes. And thank God I never had a customs problem since he is the only dealer that makes you eat half that even if it is on his end. Why anyone would buy from him anymore is beyond me. You gotta really love PAMs, but even then, the quality is so hit or miss why have something more visually accurate if it can't pass the feel test or if you need spring bars because of bad threads? Davidsen sucks.

Congrats JJ. Happy for you.

Wow a Langematik -missed that one. Nice piece. You have impeccable tastes my freind. Oh no but after all my praise of the 1846 it didn't make the list. LOL... Again, congrats on an impressive collection.

Classic or not, the Skyland sure is nice looking and on my list for sure... In the meantime, I'm wearing this for the weekend:

Just got to this. Interesting reading about the molecular properties of the grades. All I know is WOW, what a difference side by side the steel can make, although not enough difference to really alter your memory. Funny that way, but gen Rolex watches are MUCH "whiter" and brighter than any rep I have ever seen. When side by side, depending on final finish characteristics the difference can be stunning. I do notice it on some watches more than others though - especially 316L on reps which has been brushed a little roughly. That really brings out the silver grey look a lot. Gen Rolex watches just have a pop to them which can't be described especially when new and it really is the 904 that does it. It looks more like white gold. Very white and rich looking.

I think the Aeromarine line in general is a little loose and that is coming from a guy who happens to like them alot. I think most would agree that the line has too much duplication and other than size and very slight changes, all the watches in the line are too close to each other in appearance to be classics. When I think of the word classic and Breitling in the same sentence only one watch comes to mind and that is the Navitimer. I suppose the Emergency would also make the list given its exclusivity and design specialization. I hope the hardcore don't take offense to that, but I think if one looks at it objectively I really can't be too far off the mark. Of course no watch has to be a classic to be cool as f*ck. I could pick on plenty of other brands in the same way.

Nice, and if you never had another one that would almost do. Coolest 7750 chronos around...

I'm speechless. Just insane. You are the Tanfo of repli-gens. A friend of mine locally has a collection like that and it is always staggering to see all his at once as is this. And I too love the idea of the flight style breifcases. Hey Teejay - if you want to be really cool pack all yours in actual ATA flight case spec breifcases. Seriously though, I bet if the foam was stiff enough you wouldn't even need to build partitions. You could just cut the foam and make a grid out of one sheet and the pressure from the stiffness would hold all the foam pieces together even with watches in them. So here is the question we all want to know. I'd bet they all don't stay in rotation and some you keep just because you probably have a rule never to sell a watch once you get it. Assuming so, which of them do get wristtime constantly? 5 of them? 10? More? Please, do tell... Nice UN Marine Chonometer BTW. Really great piece and not so easy to find these days. I think UN phased that out totally if I'm not mistaken? Shame. But I'm glad they brought back the romans with the newly designed Maxi Chronometer. Always loved that design and now folks who would prefer a 43MM watch to 38MM like yours have an alternative. Too bad there is no longer an enamel dial though. So classic and elegant - which is why I like yours better personally. UN makes such interesting pieces with such wonderful maritime history regardless of the piece and I'm always surprised that still not so many are all that familiar with them. Part of it is probably that thier dealer network is very small and many never get to see them in person. Now all we need is some great UN reps! EDIT: I was mistaken about the enamel dial - kind of. The 43MM version was available with a white enamel dial in 2007 as a special edition just for that year in both steel and rose gold. Just checked an older book. Oops.

Yeah I get that part but what is the significance of 1972? Something to do with the age of the bike or something?
-
What is the history of that watch Freddy? I guess I'm a little confused as I just saw the caption about the bike diary and something about 1972?
-
Yeah, I also had a gen 5004 for a while and I can tell you the lume on the hands and the indices are both C1 and are the same color uncharged in daylight. I also don't remember the lume being different colors when charged.

Since you are in LA I know who you are now but won't say of course. I used to be quite prominent in the biz actually as a player once upon a time. I have played and owned many fine intruments, but have been partial to those made by a friend who is no doubt the most repected luthier in New England who is partial to a certain amphibian creature...

As I said in the WC thread - great score Siesta. And I too think the croc is the way to go for these. It is a big watch and personally I prefer the smaller version - despite my 7.5" wrists. But I would definely agree that anyone can wear these. You know, IWC designs are funny that way. Many of them look big, and they are big, and yet they don't wear so big. When I look at my AT it is 42mm, but with the internal bezel it is all dial and looks bigger than the Steelfish, UN MMD, and many others - much bigger. Looks to be about 45MM just looking at it next to known sized watches. Yet when you wear it it doesn't look so big anymore. Go figure. I always felt that the Ingy, the BP, and the 7-Day Portos were all like that in their own categories. IWC's "throw" their size - like throwing a voice. IWC - the ventrilquwatch.
-
Nice siesta. Haven't seen one of those in a while...

Kill the lights (part 2)! Best kept secret brand in lume!
RobbieG replied to Timepiece's topic in Other Brands Area
Not my thing but I'm sure it will be for someone. I'm more for sort of traditional design and materials and the multi color lume isn't for me. I have to say the designs don't really knock me out either, but hey, that is why we have all these brands - so there is something for everyone! -
BK is amazing in every respect. He is a great guy, does great work and is very honorable. You will be very happy with almost anything you get from him.

Me too. Now I want to move there because of it. Let's all be Luthier's best friend...
