  1. Vacheron Malte Chronograph. I'm not much of a dress watch guy, but I have had this rep in my collection for some time. Reliable Venus copy handwind and can be had for close to the $150 mark. You will want a higher quality strap or two though. I have a few dress straps in matte and glazed finishes in gator, croc and ostrich in blacks, browns and blues that all work nice with it. These pics don't do it justice. Other than the weight it is very accurate and doesn't look cheap at all on the wrist. I've worn it to formals and received many compliments on it actually. Best cheap rep I have ever owned and one of the few I never sold or traded...
  2. I got the blue dial SFSO. I have so many watches with black dials it was the only choice for me - although I love the black too. My principal sports watch lineup consists of watches each with their own touch of color Gen IWC Ti Aquatimer (dash of yello), Gen 42MM PO (black), The UN MMD (grey/silver), Rep SFSO (blue), Rep Rolex GMT (Blk/Red or red/blue depending on insert). These are the ones I wear in constant rotation depending on the activity/dress, etc...They are all very different and unique from each other both in color, finish, function and size.
  3. Really? I really see no resemblance other than the alternating brushed/polished surfaces. The hands, case shape, bezel, lume, clasp, and the dial as you mentioned are all UN and nothing like a Rolex. When I say I replaced the YM - not really - I just meant that I think this is more interesting than the YM in the broad category of a bezel sports watch with polished surfaces and a grey-ish dial...
  4. Yeah, I have a Dual Time GMT 42 and every part of it is scary too in terms of quality - even the deployant clasp. Although, the two new Rollies - the ceramic GMT and the new YM have a whole new level of quality. Some hate the new styles, but the quality has stepped up in a big way with those two. I'm getting the new SS GMT with the green hand next actually... Good to see you too, BT. Glad to see you still around and shooting great pics as always. Happy to be lurking around again. Cheers!
  5. I must confess my sins...I am a hedge fund guy... Volatile markets = particularly large sums of money for RobbieG - LOL - although I don't buy particularly expensive pieces as far as watches go. <ost are under 7K. I am fortunate to have a very nice collection though. My heart will always be in reps though I tend to buy more gens these days. In fact, I just got an ETA SFSO and it is amazing. Vac is luming it as we speak. A nice watch is a nice watch - rep or gen...
  6. This is sort of a repost as I have posted some of these on the other boards. I spent some more time with setups and got some more goodness this morning. In case you missed the original post, I originally bought this piece to replace my Rolex YM in the "shiny" sport watch category with something a little more interesting. IMO, nobody does the marine theme better than UN and it's history speaks for itself in that regard. The fit, finish and overall quality feel of this piece most certainly meets and IMO really exceeds the YM in every regard. The watch just screams quality. It is my second UN (soon to be three) and I can't say enough about the brand. I get more compliments from strangers about this watch than any other in my collection by far. Enjoy...
  7. I have always been partial to the brand and currently have two pieces in my collection - A Maxi Marine Diver on bracelet (I will photograph this for you next) and a 42MM Dual Time GMT on strap. In fact the brand is probably my favorite overall in terms of uniquness in design elements that appeal to me personally. They are elegant and fun at the same time. Anyway, although it is unlikely that there will ever be accurate reps of the line due to movement layout issues, the two part question is: 1. What do you think of the brand overall and what are your favorite pieces if so? 2. What do you think of these new Maxi Diver Chronos and which style do you like the best? P.S: The full gold version will undoubtedly appeal to the new new YM II buyers at the same price point... http://basel.watchprosite.com/show-nblog.post/ti-413106/ http://www.theluxurybazaar.com/timepieces/...-102-8M_92.html
  8. Hi All, I'm going to try and photograph more watches - particularly more in my gen collection. Next up is my new favorite sports watch. Still the best and most comfortable bracelet around IMO, rep or gen. This watch is my new fav and daily wearer. I can't say enough about this piece and if you have the means I would tell you to consider putting this high on the gens to buy list. Great piece for the money. I'm getting lazy with the photo setups so the content and creativity is shrinking, but these should give you some nice comparision shots to evaluate current and future reps. Enjoy...
  9. Thanks Juice. You know the AR is really exceptionally "deep" on this watch and the lume is too. I also have a gen IWC Ti Aquatimer and the AR on that watch is like half of the PO. That said if the maker would have had a great version of the 42 I would have bought that - not that I'm sad about buying the gen. What I mean is that with a good base watch all you need is Chief's AR and a lume job and it would be real close - forget the hands and dial. The AR and lume will capture the essence of the gen watch which is what it is all aboutI am fortunate to have the cash to buy quite a lot of gens but that wasn't always the case and my heart is in the rep world. Here there is a passion for watches that the TZ guys don't have. Anyway, if I can get a rep of a watch with a few reasonable mods and make it gen like I will get the rep and not the gen. The latest BCE I just got comes to mind. The base watch is so good that it is hard to justify paying 5K for that watch when all you need is a datewheel and maybe a little better AR if you are picky. Back to the PO, I think the 45MM is a good base but the 42MM has too many issues. I would have got the 45MM and done the lume and AR but that size was just not my thing. The 42 is a whole different watch. Thanks for looking.
  10. A few shots of mine. I agree that the 45 version doesn't have quite the panache of the 42. It isn't the size...hard to explain...it's just really a different watch in every way. Try them on at your dealer and you will see. If I were to get the 45, it would most certainly have to be on rubber. I have a pretty robust gen collection with some pretty pricy pieces and I always say that this is by FAR my favorite steel braceleted sport watch in my collection and it is also probably close to being the least expensive in that category. Can't say enough about it. Love it. Love it. Love it.
  11. Hi Guys - long time. I have been busy. I hear there have been some strides toward the Aquatimer line. Question: I have a gen Ti Aquatimer Chrono with the Ti bracelet. Anyone know if the rep black rubber is available from any dealer as just a strap. I figured if it is decent I would just get one of those instead of the gen one as I am wanting a change from the bracelet. Also, I will post some pics of the gen if you guys want for comparison. All the best to you. Good to log in to RWG again... RG
  12. Photoshopped of course Pug to blur the face... I used to be a rock star - or kind of depending on your definition - a pro musician anyway in the limelight for 10+ years which is why I'm interested in your hair. I used to have mountains of it and used a can of Aquanet a night and tease it to the sky. Now we are officially WAY off topic...
  13. Scarlet hair huh? I think we need some pics of that here on RWG!!!
  14. Your diagram is fine, but this is what I mean by all other things being equal. No watch I have ever worn fits into the #1 or #3 category. What I mean is that as long as the watch sits on your wrist correctly (remember, some wrists are flat on top, some rounded, etc...) physical size is going to determine what works overall. A watch is not a piece of jewelry to me but it has to wrok proportionally with your size and what you are wearing. We haven't even discussed short sleeves vs. long sleeves yet. I think that makes a difference too. As for whether you can "pull it off", I don't know that I agree with that statement at all. I mean what are we talking about? Confidence? How you walk? Then it is even worse because you are parading around with a clock on your wrist as if to say "look at me, I'm a dumbass who has become a slave to current fashion, hence the big watch"? For example, I don't like yellow gold but I am known to be able to afford to wear it - bracelet and all - in the circles I move and work in. I think it is obnoxious, so I don't. But what does that have to do with how you carry yourself? Sure, I could wear a solid gold Navi World on a bracelet and no one would question it, but I think I would just look like every other [censored] in my town trying to show everyone how much money he has. BTW, I should start another thread about how I started with reps - because I love hanging with people knowing the joke is on them for spending gobs of money on stuff that is available for less than 1/10th the price. The other day a friend was fondling my new GMT that I bought for $200 and then he went to the AD and bought one "just like it" for $4500. Anyway, I digress... I agree that "carry" does matter in other situations - like going to AD's wearing reps that have especially expensive gen counterparts. No one ever questions me because the AD's know I have a lot of expensive gen watches in my collection. What comes to mind is my VC Malte chrono. I don't wear it to the VC AD because I would surely be called out, but I can wear it to other AD's and they just admire it. They know I could own one so they don't question it. I'm sure a guy who is 22 and in college could never get away with it...
  15. This is exactly what I had in mind when I started this thread. This is a spitting image of me wearing a Fiddy a Navitimer World or at worst a B&R...
  16. I see a lot of folks quoting wrist sizes here and even on the gen forums as a way to measure what watches they can and can't wear. To me wrist size is nearly of no consequence as to how a watch looks on the wearer unless your wrist is REALLY large or small. Of greater importance is the wearer's physical size. I am 5'9" with a slim, athletic build and 160lbs. If I wear a watch that is larger than 44MM it just looks stupid beacuse I am physically fairly compact. Sports watches in the 40-42MM range are ideal for me with 41-42MM being my favorites - all other things being equal. Almost anything in that size is fine for me. The PAM's are OK at 44MM, but not quite ideal really. I get away with it because those watches in particular are supposed to be kind of clunky - it is part of their appeal. My wrist size happens to be 7 1/2", but what does that really matter? Similarly, I have a collector buddy who is 6'2" and 220 lbs with a 6 3/4" wrist. He owns the HUGE gen B&R 46MM giant and wears it on that tiny wrist easily because the watch matches his body size well. So ultimately I feel that overall size and shape of the wearer is the key with wristsize playing a supporting role - not the other way around. In my case my wrist is much larger than I am in proportion, but if I wear that B&R I look like Spongebob's retarded brother. Food for thought and discussion...
  17. To me, the biggest problem with the rep 42MM is the pearl. The 45MM is much better in that respect and the difference is quite obvious. I have agree with you that depending on your size the 45MM is almost "cartoon-ish". Funny, but I have a few PAM's and the size there doesn't bother me as I feel that they are sort of supposed to be big as it is part of the appeal of the watch. I feel that today many watchmakers are simply releasing huge watches because they are in without much regard to design. Breitling comes to mind with respect to the larger Navitimer versions such as the GMT. For my money, the Navitimer is a 41MM watch and doesn't want to be larger. Just my opinion.
  18. Thanks Ron. Get one of these. Great piece and a great movement.
  19. Yeah lume is weak although that never bothered my on the Rollies like it does on PAM's/Omegas. I suppose I will re-lume it if I decide to do the CG's but I wouldn't ship it off just for that...
  20. Yeah looks like your dial print is crisp and the same as mine. I would agree that the crystal height, cyclops and date window are improved. My watch came with a pepsi insert as it was all PT had around at the time. I'll snap some pics and send them to you tomorrow. I never really looked at it as I always intended to have Palp make me one like yours in blk/red. Stay tuned...
  21. Also, the correct hand stack version dials that I have seen are just terrible. For my money dials and date windows are far more important than CG's. CG's are not a huge knock for me personally. If I had perfect CG's and a bad date window/dial I couldn't even look at the watch let alone wear it. Just my opinion. Everyone has their own issues. I know guys who lose their mind over rehaut and will take that over dial flaws any day - and so on. To each their own...
  22. Thanks for the tip on the CG's - I never noticed that. I doubt I will mod them though. On the wrist they look fine. I noticed another thing - my dial fonts seen crisper than BT's and his has that too big square date window that has been showing up a lot. Too much space above the date font. Mine is narrower and has a lower magnification more like the gen. PT says mine is from the same maker as BT's. Those makers are always making an improvement and and un-improvement simultaneously. Gotta love this goofy hobby of ours. All in all I am very happy with my watch visually. Other than the stack and the CG's I'm not sure what could really improve on it.
  23. I am always hiring new geese at my company ... Just messin' with ya. Seriously, nice GMT. That is one gen I don't have. I like it with the all black insert. You don't see as many of those around.
