  1. I just got this Explorer II from a trusted dealer and it looks and feel quite close to my gen 16570..

upon looking closer, i noticed that the printing is slightly different from my gen..it is showing 'EXPLORER ||' in stead of 'EXPLORER II'...

I know and heard of such error dials in existence for the GMT Master II 16710 but what about the 16570 Explorer 2? Are there any gens in existence?

Would love to hear from the Rollies experts on this..

Also would it be an easy mod to 'draw' 2 white lines on top of the || or would it be much easier sourcing for a gen dial?

    Thanks in advance..

  2. Hi all,

I would like to get your feedback on a 16710 rep that I currently own..

It is a Josh Retro edition with the error dial and running on 21J movement..

What other mods can be done to it so make it even more accurate?

    1. Crown placement is slightly low so a new case would definitely be in order..should i get it from the cartel 1655?

    2. Changing the case would mean getting also a new bezel assembly..can i transplant it from the old case or better off getting an aftermarket bezel assembly?

    3. 21J movement has been running accurately and at most +5 secs per week...however seconds hand is running at 5bps so stutter is still slightly obvious..

Should i change to an ETA 2836-2 or 2824? Where else would I be able to get new hands to fit onto the ETA movement..

    4. Crystal will obviously need to be replaced to a slightly lower crystal (as compared with the 1655)..would a Clark 25-295 C2 fit for the 1655 case? Any suggestions on this?

Having said all these, should I even attempt such mods or leave the rep as it is and wear it like a beater..

All and any advice is appreciated..

    Thanks in advance guys!

    :)

  3. Hi, to answer ur question..i bought a K series (circa 2001) with box and papers for about SGD$4,900 or about US$3,950..without any of these, the price would drop by a couple of hundreds..

Also has it been serviced in its lifetime? U might want to take that into consideration..

If it is manufacturated in 1990, it should be a tritium dial so most of the lume should be gone by now..

    Hope this helps abit.. :)

  4. Hi guys,

I am wondering if the coronet at the 6pm position on the sapphire crystal can be removed.

Is it a decal on the underside of the crystal? How do the factories replicate this 'etching'?

The newer rep models all have better looking coronets but what about the slightly older models produced around 2001..

From what I gather, Rolex only introduced the etched coronet towards the end of 2001 and not all models got this treatment immediately..

The DJ was one of the first, if not first (debatable), model that was launched with this 'counterfeit/authentication measure'..other models in Rolex's line followed shortly after..

As for the rep factories, the quality of reproducing this etching got better thru the years, which is a good thing..it also looks more 'refined'..

Obviously the easiest way to remove the coronet (to be accurate to pre 2001-2002) models is to replace the crystals..but not all reps have gen specific dimensions..

How else can this be removed?? Any tried and tested methods??

    :)
