I Believe You Could Call This a Must Read Post

So three weeks from now, when that sociopath, "Bill" (if that is even his real name) decides that we'll end this thing in 2 more weeks from then... I have a feeling we'll all get a lot of entertainment by this. With that, I'll bid $350 +1 -
I knew what I was buying. I wanted to secure the "good bones" to build, what to me, will be the ultimate vintage DRSD. It didn't make since to me to buy some POS to try to build up. That being said, I'll put the money into it so that when I'm done it'll look the part. Who do you recommend for me to have these mods done? I'm willing to put the $ into the project to make it right. I knew it was going to require some love. I'm glad I'm getting the blank canvas, b/c I don't want to go over-board with the "vintage"-ization that some do. I want mine to look well cared for, like this: http://forums.watchnet.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=159167&rid=0 Any recommendations would be appreciated. I was told pbdad by one person. Any others CONUS that you'd recommend or think would be more qualified for what I'm going for. Also, what's wrong with the bracelet? I thought that 93150 bracelets were perfectly acceptable for these watches? Thanks, Jeremy

Any recommendations for our modders here in the CONUS who can perform these tasks for me? I shall not dare to do them myself. While I appreciate the works, I am no where near skilled enough to be the artist...

Ok guys, so you probably can guess as to where I sourced this watch... I knew I was buying a beautiful piece, but I would like to ask the professionals what exactly I've got here, as I'm not as well versed as some. What mods do you suspect I have here, and what, if any do you recommend I do? All comments/compliments etc. are welcome. Now, on to the photos... enjoy! Oh... I thought this thread was a joke at first.

You can always just sell that movement to me and I'll put it into my incoming BK Sub. If I had your movement, I'd be a dial, hands and hollow midlinks away from a genuine watch!

Well, I'd definitely trust any of my brothers here over any outsider, for sure! I appreciate the looking out, my friend, but I'm more of a SS sort of fellow. I actually have a TT datejust that was given to me by my grandfather for high school graduation, but I really don't care for the TT look. I simply could never part with it due to the sentiment attached, and I've actually had the damn thing serviced in the last few years; however, it just sits in the watch box mostly. I wear it home to family functions... like, umm, Christmas.

And before anyone asks, of course my user name in the gen forums is different from my user name for all of our rep forums
-
I've definitely been studying the usual forums (watchuseek, timezone & rolexforums). I see a lot of the same sellers on all three forums and it looks as though they do quite a bit of selling on there. If I contact them and ask them questions and finally (probably after getting the head-nod from a few expert members here that I'm going to be getting an authentic watch) making an offer, is it frowned upon to make what I consider to be a fair market offer? I generally use completed ebay listings as my basis for an offer. I don't want to offend any sellers, but the worse they can do is say no, right?

This is the funniest thread I've read all night. I'm literally eating popcorn and smiling...

I know this is our rep space, but does anyone have any recommendations as to where I should be shopping to purchase my first gen rolex? I think I want a Sub or an Air King. I've looked on rolex forums. I've looked on ebay. Hell, I've looked at the AD and a local watch shop guy. I want a good deal, though. It seems as if I can get a 16610 for around $4K I'm doing well. Are the watches on rolexforums trusty? What about some of them on ebay? Maybe I should just wait and find one I want and let all of you guys pick it apart via hyperlink. Thanks, --Jer

Where, oh where did you find that movement? What'd that set you back?

So who did your $60 service? Please share!

Wow, your camera speaks Swiss Mov't. Love it!

I was catching up on some "Watch Snob" articles and I found this one that for some reason almost made me fall off of the couch laughing: I always see my boss shaking his wrist to get his watch to tick -- what’s the deal with that and how come my watch ticks without having to shake it? Dear God, where do I begin? First, you just used the word “ticks” twice in one sentence -- never do that again. Second, your boss isn’t just shaking his wrist, he’s attempting to wind his seemingly high-end timepiece (although if he’s really “shaking” it, I may have to have some words with him too). Better watches do not require batteries to power them; instead, they work on the power provided by an automatic rotor, a small metal weight that spins and retains mechanical power. Third, if he is actually winding his watch, then it won’t be ticking as those timepieces that lack a quartz movement actually move along quietly and smoothly. In summary, your watch is a piece of crap and your boss’s is not, and that’s all you need to know. This one was even funnier: What’s the deal with different watches having different straps on them? Why are some metal, some leather and some rubber? This question makes me regret warning you of looming physical violence in the previous response. Are you really asking me this question? The deal is that different watches are designed for different things. You wouldn’t put a leather strap on a diving watch, would you? Well actually, maybe you would. Generally speaking, a leather strap is dressier, a rubber strap is sportier and a metal bracelet is somewhere in between. There are certainly exceptions to the rule, but there you have it, the answer to your question. Now go back to living your life, undoubtedly as a virgin.

Man, I can't say...

Hey BG, right below you in Ohio here. I won't hold your state against you... just know that we here in Buckeye country plan on kicking Wolverine @ss for the 8th year in a row, with the simple difference that this year we're going to do it in Ann Arbor. It makes me sad that I won't be able to walk to the stadium and stumble home again this year (live very close), but I'll make the drive up

LMFAO!!!!

I've decided that since the rep bracelet apparently fits the case so well I'll keep it, but buy a gen clasp. A member on another board is selling me a new one at a very fair cost. I almost bought a full bracelet off the bay in great condition that wasn't titled in the auction well (could have snatched it for $540 with shipping), but I've read that the SELs on the gen don't always fit better or even as well as the rep bracelet, so I think I'll stick with the plan I've stated above. Thanks again, everyone, for all the help and advice!
-
Thanks for the input. I've sent BK a message to see if he's aware of whether or not a gen bracelet would be compatible.

Alright, I have a BK watch in the works (patience are a virtue in our hobby, am I right?) For those of you have one of these gorgeous pieces, are you satisfied with the bracelets that come with them? Do they look the part? I ask, b/c I have purchased a noob bracelet that has the hollow midlinks in hopes of maybe making a mashup of the good quality bracelet coming with the TW that simply lacks the hollow midlinks. As far as polish and shine, can anyone comment on how these bracelets coming with the tw subs look? Would these bracelets on the TW subs be the gen equivalent of a 93250 SEL bracelet? If so, would a gen bracelet fit the TW sub well? Has anyone purchased the gen bracelet to go with this sub and the SELs fit in nicely? (Yes, I'm considering buying a gen 93250 bracelet -- is that dumb?) Thank you in advance for your commentary. --Jer

I find myself in an odd state -- speechlessness.
