Has anyone bought this watch from Josh or Andrew? I've never bought an IWC, and I really like the classic look of this one and was wondering if anyone's had any experience with it? If I bought it I'd obviously get it serviced and buy an aftermarket gator strap and OEM buckle ($150ish on the bay, it looks like). But I was wondering how the watch head it self looks presentation-wise in person? THanks, Jer

And their "secret formula of glow in the dark" super luminova...

If you want to go ETA-comparable to original, go for a 2846. It's a slow beater, just like the original. If you look on ebay, you can find plenty of cheap watches to pull them from. Just make sure you get 'em serviced and they're a great little movement.

I will be sure to update this thread as soon as I hear back from them! In the meantime, if anyone has one of these laying around... -

Oh, just saw the 2836-2 DW offerings there (with no pictures). Should I contact them to see if this is going to have the PAM font, or? And they're sold out of both that have 2836-2 listed. -

So, I bought a 2836-2 Tissot mov't powered rep 063 that was having some keyless works issues (problem now solved -- WOOT!). However, this thing has a pretty bad font on the datewheel. Does anyone have a datewheel I could buy or a datewheel overlay that would work for this project before I get too $$$-heavy. I want to get it relumed and make it a cool watch, but if I can't find a solution for this DW font, I don't think I want to sink the money in it for lume b/c it'll never be a super rep. By tabularasa415 at 2011-08-01 By tabularasa415 at 2011-08-01 One of the guys on another forum said to find a Taka V2 DW. Does anyone have one of these they want to part with, or know of a solution that would work well with this movement? All help is appreciated :-) --Jer

TRANNY LOVE! I had a woman in my restaurant celebrating her 25th anniversary as no longer being a man. See it all here in the Short North of Columbus, Ohio.

New to site and looking for quality Audemars Piguet rep

What a mom!!! -
So I picked up a swiss ultimate. And! it was the one of much debate. Bought it from a guy who bought it from the guy who was banned for trying to sell it to double his money. Anyhow, the gentleman I bought it from paid more than he sold it to me for b/c he knew the story and wanted to make it right for me -- awesome dude! Anyhow, I love it and i want to keep it and I need to find a strap set for the deployment. Any advice where I can buy an OEM/or OEM-like other than the AD (of which I do not have one near me)??? Any help always appreciated! --Jeremy

Kent Parks super-lumed my PAM 156 GMT!

1 million years.... or almost three months. I was quoted 4-6 weeks, but I knew the realistic view going in. -
Kent Parks super-lumed my PAM 156 GMT!
tabularasa415 replied to tabularasa415's topic in The Panerai Area
Yeah, it is not your run-of-the-mill PAM or even PAM GMT, which is precisely why I love it. It is the one and only PAM in my personal collection. Everything else is TAG, Omega and Rolex. I cannot wait to get it back and get it on my wrist. Thanks for all the compliments! -
So, Being relatively scientific in my approach to most things in life, I decided that I wanted to try out a few different modders/watch smiths/etc. I sent a PAM 156 GMT with an already serviced movement to Kent Parks to have it re-lumed. Now, I did my research and I've heard that his time estimates are generally much shorter than the actual time it takes him to finish...BUT... based on pictures, it may have been worth the (much longer than anticipated) wait. By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-14 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-14 I'll let the pictures do the talking. :-)

I was searching for these, too, and found that same supplier. I simply bought one for my project from PBDad since he was going to be doing the installation, anyhow. It was also fully serviced and regulated. Of course, it cost more than $80 :-P

My MBW DRSD is somplete! (for now...)

Hahaha... it's the real deal. I bought it from a member here who had to part with a few pieces for fear his wife would kill him.... -

I appreciate your adherence to keeping to the original gens, too. I've seen some of your projects and they're gorgeous. I still think the patina of my dial is pretty spot-on, and I know there are plenty of gen owners out there who have their dials and hands touched up by non-Rolex pros. Kent Parks has done plenty of these. I think it's one of those things that's a personal preference and we obviously at this point know one another's preferences. hahaha. I respect your preference, I just prefer mine. Besides, most people will think my watch is fake anyhow... it doesn't have "one of those magnifying thingies" on the crystal -

Bracelet and endlinks, to the best of my knowledge, are MBW original. Of course, they've been highly modified by Father PB. I wanted my watch to look like something my father's been wearing since he graduated college and my grandfather gave him the watch as a graduation gift, and then I pried it off of his cold, dead wrist... -

Honestly, Bill took the words out of my mouth. I'm not agreeing with him because he's my friend, and he was NOT supporting me because he is my friend as well -- we simply both appreciate functional watches. I've spent more money re-luming watches than what I paid for the watches themselves. I like to know that when I walk into a dark movie theater my supposedly 30-something-year-old watch is still going to tell me the time. If it were Rolex serviced they'd replace the dial or relume it, right? Well, why not do the same during my servicing :-) PBDad offered to throw in some tritium contamination if I wanted it, but we both agreed that I wanted a watch that had looked liked it'd been serviced and cared for over the years, and that's precisely what I received, agreed? -

Haha! Nice try, sir. I'll tell you what... you give me one of those rare GMTs of yours, and send it along with another 1665 that you want modded, and I will over-see the project for you and simply keep the GMT as payment ;-) -
Alright guys, I'm sure you all remember when you-know-who had to get rid of a few classic MBWs for fear that a little Columbian woman would come at him with a machete. Well, I picked up a DRSD and even did a review of it in its virgin form that I'm sure some of you remember. If you need a refresher, you can find it here. Well, I sought out the help of PBDad to realize my dream of owning one of these watches. You see, I do have some nice genuine watches, and while I don't mind paying for the ones I "have" to have, I could never rationalize paying $20+K for it (not to mention that I'd be murdered by my better half). So, after picking up the watch that looked beautiful and fresh from the factory because it did nothing but sit in a certain someone's watch box (no surprise since he probably only sold me his 7th duplicate watch), I contacted PBDad and we began discussing what parts I'd need to pick up and what it is I wanted my watch to look like. I could go on and on about parts I'd sought out and blah blah blah, but those of you who've built your grails understand the emotion tied into their value (even compared to your more $$$ valuable gens), and for those of you who've yet to build one, well, I highly recommend it. A quick rundown of everything done: -case softened, aged, polished and aged again -caseback polished out, aged, paint removed and satin buffed -lugs drilled, chamfered and repolished -bracelet modded and endlinks drilled for 2mm bars -cgs shaped, soften and polished -install supplied T39 crystal (not aged) -install and supply new silver dw with open 6 and 9 -install new crown and supply new tube and drill case to accept tube -fade insert and install new yuki pearl -superluminova dial, pearl and hands in creamy vanilla color -new ETA 2846-2 regulate, service with tudor rotor -age, buff and age bracelet and endlinks -reassemble, grease all gaskets and test So, two months and here is the end result (PICTURE TIME) We will start with lume shots PB sent so that I could approve of color and appearance: By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 Next, he sent me pictures of it reassembled minus the insert b/c we had two inserts to chose from: By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 Of course, finished pictures: By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 Oh, don't forget my genuine Tudor rotor in case anyone cracks her open she has a leg to stand on: By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 And then, here she arrived less than 24 hours later (thank you PBDad) to sit upon my wrist!: By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By tabularasa415 at 2011-06-07 By the way, check out the parts section for some "spares" I have leftover from this build!
