"Bling, bling, bling"... Creating fakes is supposed to be our job, isn't it ? Can't believe people is paying so much dollars for simple "commemorative bling bling" modding Seriously, do they try to say the watch who gone to the Everest the first has some patina ? Yellow patina while the Everest is supposed to be the "pure" white ? There is a serious problem of communication, haha (and I hate Flash web sites, really )

Quick answer, The "improved" 31 jewels version is marketing, it's still a timebomb. The graphite treatment of the movement is not proved to be 100% functional, and is not cheap. Domenico have said he has "the" solution to make the movement reliable, when The Zig said he is not convinced about the result. Anyway, my opinion is it does not worth the cost, just compare photos of rep Daytona's and gen, the rep is still not good at all... Case is fat, dial is ugly, etc, etc, etc. Just my 2 cents
-
THE Zig, BTW So dirty to live in Europe...

It's always a good idea to have the case back from Phong too On my 6263/5, the other case back I've seen (DW, etc.) are just bad compared to Phong
-
It depends of the circa of your future watch :-) Can be : 24-700 / 24-7000 (early ones, costly) 24-701 / 24-7010 (uncommon, forget it) 24-702 / 24-7020 (mid ones, very costly) 24-703 / 24-7030 (later ones, service replaced) I will PM you more details soon R.

Some good reads : Josh 1680 DW 1680 etc, etc, etc.
-
I cannot agree more with you, this forum, and especially the Rolex section, is incredible It just gave me the virus... You know, the vintage Rolex virus... 1680 sounds a good project to start. Don't buy 1680 case from DW, if my memory is good, it do not takes gen parts easily, and needs a lot of machining. Needs confirmation to be sure MBW cases are hard to find, I don't really know where to buy it, but they are very good for a franken project. You should consider also making a 5512/3, there is a really interesting and recent thread about Josh's case (I believe it was 1680 case, but good to make a 5512/3 too). Just use the search function of the forum ! If the search function runs bad, just type site:rwg.cc your search on Google. But anyways, you seems very impatient to buy... Do not be so impatient, the best recommendation I can tell you is : read this forum, read the older posts, search about posts relating a specific build, and learn the maximum you can from here. This is probably the best way to start. Buying parts will be the next step ! Also, take a look at the sales corner every day to see what's coming... Franken 1680 / 1665 / 5512-3 are for sale often
-
It's so painful to see how the prices of vintage pieces is rising, and rising, and rising... About your Sigma dial, you were in my opinion very lucky...
-
It's almost impossible to find one hyper-franken Daytona for sale And about knowledge, just post your questions to us But be careful, creating a Daytona is a long way... very long way... I have spent about 8 months to finding parts for my 2 Daytona's, and I was (very) very lucky I you want a great Rolex rep "now", the Daytona is not the good way to choose ! He sells genuine items, he is French and I have ordered maybe 3 or 4 items from him But his prices are clearly overpriced most of the time
-
Wow S., I think your prices are a bit under the market price these days Dzoe, if you want to make a "franken" Daytona, as wiesn089 said, you have to acquire a lot of knowledge before starting this. "Daytona, a Legend is Born" is probably the best start DW is a good point to make a "cheap" Daytona, where cheap is not under 1500 EUR total. His case is pretty good (edit: pretty good for the price ! but not so good indeed...), but the quality varies, depending of his stocks... Sometimes, his cases needs a little of machining to makes the movement fitting perfectly. And do not expect to have good engraving with DW cases, the font he is using makes my cry... Phong is the best way if you want to make a "ultra-franken" rep. But this is not cheap at all : somewhere like 1200 EUR for the complete case kit with gen T21 / crown / tube (if he have it !) The gen parts what are easy to find (and not too much overpriced) are : Tropic 21, 703 crown, 7030 tube, 78350 bracelet, and 571 end pieces. Consider all the other parts are not cheap, and pretty impossible to find at a "normal" price. About movement, you can consider about buying a "donor" watch on the bay, with a v72 or a v726 inside. In my opinion, here is my "quick overview" of gen parts pricing : - Dial : not under 1400-1500 EUR for a service dial in good conditions. It is much more like 1700-2000 EUR for a Tritium dial, depending of the conditions. Also, finding a dial is really hard. - Bezel : not under 1500 EUR for a black bezel in good conditions. You can find damaged bezels for a lower price, but you have not the guaranty it will fit your case. It's something like 700-800 EUR for a metal 6265 bezel in good conditions - Hands : not under 500 EUR for a complete hand set, and also pretty impossible to find. But you can go with DW hand set, this is good stuff - Movement : to me, it's difficult to have a v72 serviced under the 800 EUR mark these days. For the v726 serviced, 950 EUR seems to be a good price. Warning, do NOT buy damaged or incomplete movement. Do NOT buy crappy unserviced movement, they are difficult to service without breaking parts. Always ask a clean photo of the movement and post it here before the buy. etc etc etc. These movement are old, so it is difficult to find a clean and serviced movement. - End links : somewhere between 150-200 EUR... But warning, not guaranteed it will fit your case There is not 36.000 solutions to find rare parts like dial or black bezel : days, weeks, months of researches on gen forum (VRF, TimeZone, ...) / eBay But the 2 most important things before starting a Daytona project are : - Learning the differences between gen and aftermarket parts. Or you will have some... surprises... :-) - Definite yourself a precise budget to make your first Daytona : If you want to go for a "cheap" v72-powered Daytona, 1500 EUR seems to be a good budget for DW case set / dial / hands, gen T21, crown, tube, and bracelet (not 571 end pieces) If you want to go for an "ultra franken" Daytona, you can expect something between 4000-5000 EUR to make a credible rep. Where credible means experts will see very quickly the case / movement are not gen And if your budget is lower than 1500 EUR, just look at a Spinmaster's 7750 Daytona on the Sales section, with gen parts. R. PS: 1:1 Daytona case do not exist in the aftermarket world... PS2: DW, Yuki, etc. do not sell gen parts. Phong "SOMETIMES" sell gen parts (at an indecent price). I don't know about NDT.

FYI guys, I just found this... : Disclaimer : no, it is NOT my watch It is almost the same black bezel, from service, and same distances for the markings And... considering this great cool awesome spectacular Tropical dial, I think we can say this watch - and this bezel too -, are 100% genuine R.
-
I am very impatient to see both of your future parts !
-
Okay Sorry for my suspicion And welcome to RWG ! Thanks for the future pics, the pushers looks very good (I'm impressed about the shape of the teeth), it will be interesting at this price IF the seller is trustable We'll see...
-
I have seen also a lot of replaced pushers cause of damaging, so IMHO, it is absolutely possible pushers can be replaced without replacing of crown / tube
-
Later 6263/5 are waterproof for 50 meters 702 is also possible to make your Daytona, if your S/N is somewhere like 1975 to 1982. Pushers provided were the P302 from 1975 to the end of production. But this kind of informations is useful only if you take care about engraving (means, no DW case), otherwise, don't worry, as chieftang says, there is a lot of combos on the market... R.
-
One post, one link... Spam ? Indeed, the pushers looks great on the web site But, we have no review from this dealer, and simply don't know if we can trust, or not.

V_Luu = Phong = Probably Ofrei / Cousins offer

It was you Freddy A really nice idea, sorry to "copy" -- Thank you both for the tips, it is very appreciated I will post photos once I have done this work !

Well, I have think'd about vernis à ongles (nice translation ) But, I don't really know about the resistance of the nail polish into the time ? (cracking, etc.) Have you tried it in person ? Hm... I think my GF have not a "ferrari red" nail polish into it's bag...! I will buy a new one for testing if it's finally seems to be the better option to me About that... Should I paint only the top of the hand (the visible part), or with the bottom too ? I don't really know "what to paint", as I don't want to make the hand not usable / fit-able on the movement
-
Hello RWG This title explains my question, DW just sent me 2 seconds/chrono hands for a black Daytona dial, instead of a white Daytona dial. The consequence is I cannot use it as they are... ...and I was remembering about a member who painted his seconds/chrono hand in red. So my question is, what paint, and what method to use to make a good re-paint of one hand ? I can do only two trials :) Thanks ! R.

Creating a Stainless Steel 6611 - Expert advices needed !
Valty replied to Valty's topic in The Rolex Area
I have tried to find it, the only photos I found was face photos, with no description about engraving The engraving of these watches - if you allow me the comparison - is like looking under the skirt of women. This is my feeling. ORIG ROLEX DESIGN => It's impossible, it appears at the 80' But, you have underlined a crucial thing : - 6611 seems to do not have the "REGISTERED DESIGN" engraving - 6611B seems to have it It is really difficult to tell "something really true", 6611 engaving photos are quite impossible to find The only photos I found are bellow : Yes but... There is a little problem... Look at the place of "REGISTERED DESIGN" on the 6611B... It's on the bottom, when the "normal" place is the top (with model number at the bottom) So... It's almost impossible to say where (top or bottom) should be placed the "STAINLESS STEEL" engraving... EDIT: And it is also almost impossible to know if a SS late 6611 from '59 would have "REGISTERED DESIGN". I'm tempted to say "yes", but I'm not sure... I agree with you, but I have not these kind of persons in my bookmarks -
Frimeur !!!!! No, seriously, a really great collection, I hope I will be able to do the "same" But, I don't know witch dial I prefer on this photo.... The Sigma "No Daytona" silver dial on the 6263, or your new big red black dial... :) Probably the sigma one if it was perfect ! R.

Creating a Stainless Steel 6611 - Expert advices needed !
Valty replied to Valty's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks for the reply alligoat Yes, you are right, in normal case, the 1556 is not right for a 6611, but here, it's not a really "normal" case I don't think Antiquorum screwed up this kind of informations... Especially if we look at the sale's price Of course, 6 models only, it will be very hard to obtain more informations about engraving of these pieces IMHO, Rolex did not used 1556 in normal 6611s, as I am talking about a really special case (students in horlogery at Geneva) I'm convinced these models exists, but I'm looking about more informations of this "special watches" And I'm pretty interested about the engraving. Antiquorum knows about the circa, and the model. So the watch is engraved. But... How it is engraved ? THAT, is the question R. EDIT: and if the watch is from 1959, it's absolutely plausible that the 1556 was the first caliber installed in this 6611. It was the "end" of the 6611, so why not giving old prototypes to students for working ? I don't really know. This is exactly why I am in need of "experts" -
This dial is killing me
