  1. Hello RWG, I have no news from DW (Steven) since the 14th December... Do any of you have news about him ? I absolutely need hands set for my Daytona's, and I can't do anythings without these hands Thanks in advance for your answers ! R.
  2. I like it ! Still very $$$ - like a BK / WM9 -, but I think we maybe will have decent Sub's at a good price one day with this new movement... We will see !
  3. Depending of the final result for the dial, it would be bad to cut the feet if you want to sell / upgrade your project later But it's just my opinion - it's more depending of the cost you want for the build ! Personally, I will go (once my Daytona's are finished) for a 1520, gen hands / dial with the pad printing like you, and probably Phong's case because I really care about the engraving of the case I don't think it's wasted money - if you need, it's really easy to sell the mov. , dial and hands these days Plus you have already the MBW case As always, just my 2 cts... !
  4. It screams "franken", "franken", "franken" I will be very curious to see the papers of this one... Personal opinion - this bezel is too much change... It looks much more better on a black/plastic bezel
  5. This is exactly what I wanted to say This thread is also a wonderful source of informations... "again" :)
  6. When you are buying a Daytona witch seems not to be 100% original, it's all about believing... But it's a good reading and you are right, it's absolutely possible this one is 100% original. You know where we are - we (and I) take much attention with the "details", and even if we make mistakes sometimes, it's still interesting to watch about these details to learn more and more about these sexy Daytona's I cannot agree more with you ! Correct dial, or not, this watch is amazing
  7. Oh, and to be honest, I'm happy to see non-Oyster dial on Oyster Daytona are not surprising you so much I will install soon a 6239/41 dial into my 6263 very soon... so... it's great
  8. I agree the books written by these guys are not "gospel" It's hard to tell the truth about the origin of a watch with "one" photo, I just highlighted the point this watch is not "conform" to the standards of Rolex for this Oyster model Infact, I agree it's totally possible the watch is 100% original, considering this model was not so valued, and it was a transitional period. It's also possible this dial was replaced in service, Or by an non-AD Rolex watch maker, Only papers will and can tell. But OP said the watch will probably 100% original, so... let's says if the owner wants to sell one day, a quick voyage to Rolex Geneva will be great to guarantee the authenticity of the watch ! Thanks for the link ! It looks like the same dial is used on this watch, Maybe it's not so uncommon R.
  9. I cannot agree at 100%, The introduction of the Oyster in the Daytona's was not minor, and I just don't know why they putted a non-Oyster dial into a 6240. It does not really make sense, unless the papers says the dial was installed by Rolex This is... strange... But as the OP said, the boss is not selling the watch. And I don't have $35k to put in anyways It's just my 2 cents Where have you seen this ? My charts does not say that
  10. Plus the fact I have mixed the 6240 and the 6241... shame on me 1rst post edited ! About the dial, seems legit to me, but a better picture will be great to see the printings. I have a little doubt on the "Rolex" and "Daytona" printings. For the S/N, it's a total mystery to me, I just have seen a 47X.XXX S/N for a 6240 ? The production has been made for 4 years only, so I really doubt it is possible to have this kind of gap between 2 S/N Papers will be the only frontier between the fact it's a franken, or a mixed watch produced and serviced by Rolex I know Rolex mixed the back cases & body cases many times, but I don't know if they mixed dials too If yes, 703 crown might be from service, pushers too -- Anyways, it do not worth the price of an clearly untouched 6240 I'm sorry for your boss
  11. - Post edited - Dial is not correct for the 6240, but it's look very good anyway (it is correct for 6239/41). Why ? I don't know, but I think it put the value of the watch a little down Pushers seems from service Crown seems to be 703 (from service too ?) Bezel seems original in pristine conditions - very impressing ! S/N do not match 1969 at all but 1958-59 - it will be very interesting to know witch movement is used to situate better the production year (72B, 722 or 722-1) The funny fact that the 6240 production started in 1965 Edit: After some researches, it seems the S/N of many 6240 do not match the production date (on the charts I have) I will be interested to learn more about the 6240 S/N if anybody have informations about that... R.
  12. If you need a pearl, I heard good things about Watchmaterial.com About the fixing, I bet a little of glue will do the job... But I'm not an expert at all !
  13. Yes I know, $800 = 600 EUR these days, and the required mods are costing something like 400 EUR I bet Note that I paid the premium price here too
  14. I cannot agree more WM9 are hard to get, but when you have put gen crystal / tube / crown / pearl or insert... It's the closer you can get than a gen ! You just have to expect spending something like 1000 EUR for all these things...
  15. It's a very very good work here ! I just do not agree about the fact you leaved the rehaut engraving, witch is very bad and obviously telling it's fake, but everything else is great ! Even the pearl is not so bad Congrats !
  16. I fully agree, I prefer the 16520 too for investments reasons, and because of the 116520 dial and bracelet. The 116520 bracelet is seriously "bling bling" with it's glossy middle links. Ok, I'm a vintage lover, and I do not like all the currents models. But why a classy bracelet on a "sport" watch ? It's the same with the current GMT Master... Why glossy middle links ? And I found the 116520 dial a little less detailed than the 16520 dial. Just look at the markers, they look "IMHO" fat on the 116520 dial. You also can take a look at the bezel, seems (or is ?) much larger on the 116520. Oh, and so much Gay-tonas declinations of this model... At this point, it's all about personal appreciation of the watches... For me, I prefer smaller and more "purified" watches (62XX)... The only reason that makes me like the 116520 anyways is it's in-house 4130 caliber, witch is... very very good ! As usual, it's just my 2 cents R.
  17. Amazing watch, enjoy it in good health ! MBW cases are not available anymore for sale mate, especially for the Daytona's Now, it's Phong or NDT. Not cheap, but a priori better than MBW cases in general... It's amazing to see how many French people want to make this kind of franken...
  18. Amazing watch, you are truly fortunate in this one And I think "truly fortunate" is not enough Enjoy it !
  19. Oh my god, congrats for this one mate ! :-) It's quite "the" build !
  20. Hm... I usually prefer the SS option for the bracelet... But I do like this one... What is the origin of this bracelet ? Also, I think it's pretty good to "change" sometimes... What is the problem is you have the choice between SS bracelet, leather strap, carbon (why not ?) strap, etc... ? It's not easy to have " a lot " of 62XX, so, it's a way to have more than you already have... Just my 2 cents !
  21. Great watch !! Congratulations I always loved the 6541, but finding a correct dial & hand set is pretty difficult... [off topic] So, finally, JoJo knows how to send a dial without damaging it ? Interesting... [/off topic]
  22. More than expensive, it's almost impossible to find these days... Try to find me a 6263/5 silver dial... Just for laugthing :-) And don't forget we are on a board where all rep makes sense -- it's all about passion invested, not money ;-) R.
  23. I think I will order 1 extra hands set from DW to try this ASAP
  24. Freddy, where have you found this red chrono seconds hand ? I love it !
