Dear Rwg, Am I Crazy ? (Some Daytona's On Their Way...)
Valty replied to Valty's topic in The Rolex Area
I see that :-) Thank you again ! I will see what to do, because it strangely seems harder to find a 24-7020 tube... And I don't really know if the gen crown will fit a rep tube... -

Thank your for your answer I bet it's almost impossible to find these parts at a decent price ? About the price, have you an idea of a fair price for the crown & the tube ? -
Thank your very much for your answer Phong seems to have a "new" case kit. So, I will see his answer...

Dear Rwg, Am I Crazy ? (Some Daytona's On Their Way...)
Valty replied to Valty's topic in The Rolex Area
I have re-made a list of the questions I have to be more clear : - Do anyone know what is the crown ref. present on the 6239 case I currently have ? What references "options" I have for this crown, to stay historically correct ? - Do anyone know witch crown is the "best" for a 6265 ? 702 or 703 ? What do you know about the tube ? The same for the 2 crowns ? - Do anyone know what is the "best" range of S/N if I want to make a clear / like new 6265 ? I belive something in the 7.2 million is nice, but I'm not really sure about that. - And finally, about the Phong's cases kit, do anyone know more about his "new" case kits ? He told me : $1650 with gen parts (crystal / crown / tube), $1450 without I don't really know what is my best choice at this point Someone telling me he do not sell gen parts and it's a waste of money, someone tells me he sells gen parts and there is no problem... I don't really know who to trust Thanks in avance if you have some answers for me ! R. -

Hello all First, thank you very much for all your comments They are all extremely appreciated I think I will start the build very soon, in less than 1 month... I have (finally !!!!) found someone in France to make the watches, and make this dream happens ! If you have any answers at the questions I have (in the end of the first post), it will be very appreciated too, because I'm a little in the dark about some points And I obviously don't want to make any mistake with my future buys Especially for the 6265 ! To be honest, I don't tried at all on the cases I have, because I have not any tools and knowledge to remove / replace the bezel. I think you can ask torresp if he tried when it was the owner of this bezel -
I'm surprised to see you do not mention this horrible bold "DAYTONA" writing on the Phong's dial. I agree the rest is pretty good, but this "DAYTONA"... It simply screams "I'm a fake dial !" Or maybe are you talking about the PN dials ? I found the "DAYTONA" off too... Is it a Phong dial on your second photo ?

Gen 703 crown with tube is not so hard to find. Tropic 21 is not so hard to find, too, but you already have one Try eBay, Yuki, Phong, etc. About the dial, the DW's newer ones are not bad at all. Seriously, I am very impressed of the quality of my v72 white dial. Imho, much better than his old batch. The engravings are good, the coronet is very good on my example, only the sub-dials are a way too shiny... But rep is rep Infact, stay away from NDT / Phong's Daytona's dials. They are just bad ! InGod's dials are also sometimes very good. I was (really) impressed with this one for example : http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250821354757#ht_3477wt_1114 If we except the lack of symmetry of the sub-dials markings, the printings are just very good ! About the gen dial -- good luck my friend, it's almost impossible to find one at good price (where "good" means under 1500 EUR) As said before, Ofrei or Cousins pushers are very good. And same - I think the DW's metal bezel is better (compared with a gen one, not "so much" differences). The black one is not so bad too. If your v72 fits correctly the DW case, your build is finished soon R. PS: I'm sure this Spinmaster's Daytona is cursed - we all are falling into v72 builds

Hello RWG This is a long time I have not posted a topic here... So, after 3 months of researches, I decided to "create" not one, not two, but three of these fantastic Daytona's Here are some photos of my current parts... : So... you can see these parts currently in : - x1 Valjoux 72 freshly oiled / cleaned / serviced - x1 Valjoux 726 freshly oiled / cleaned / serviced - x1 Valjoux 726 unserviced (the Wakmann one) - making some spring noise at each beat (ding, ding, ding...), and currently uncleaned - x1 6265 DW case with Gen T21 / 703 crown / tube - x2 6239 Phong case with Gen T21 / ??? crown / tube - x1 Gen 6265 NOS metal bezel - like new ! - x1 Gen 6263 bakelite bezel - used a lot - x1 DW 6265 metal bezel - x1 Gen 6263/5 NOS black dial with Gen NOS handset - x1 DW 6263/5 white dial with DW handset - x2 78350 bracelets in good shape ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here is my construction plan for the 3 Daytona's - any suggestions are welcome :-) -- Daytona 6263 - Probably a "really used" one -- - Valjoux 726, better choice than a Valjoux 72, cause it's closer from a Rolex 727 movement. - Gen black bezel - used, but fine - Rep DW white dial / hands - any suggestion on "how to vintagize a dial" are welcome ! - I will probably use my current DW 6265 case, with erased S/N & engravements (they are awful anyways... ), and will think about "how to vintagize a case" a lot to match the bezel. I think the result will be good -- Daytona 6265 - My future grail -- - Valjoux 726, cause bla bla bla - Gen metal bezel - Gen black dial / hands - Phong 6265 case (to buy), and gen T21 / 703 (or 702 ?) crown / tube What else to say ? Will maybe the best rep world can do to create a vintage Dayona. Gen case or Rolex 727 are not findable. Forever -- Daytona 6239 - The "unexpected" project -- - Valjoux 72, the closer of the Rolex 72B / 722 - Rep bezel (Phong or DW - will see) - Rep DW white non-oyster dial, or 3 colors PN dial from InGod. I don't really know right now. Will probably buy the both and decide when the parts will be here. - Phong 6239 case, gen T21 / crown / tube. About the crown (you can see on the pictures), anyone have the ref. no of this one ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So now, the hard part is finish. All I have to do is to source : - 1x Phong 6265 case set -- about this case set, Phong claims it's with gen T21 / 703 crown / tube, but... I don't really know if it's true... What is the best choice to me for building a "perfect" Daytona ? If you guys have answers or opinions, I'm really open to it. I really want to make this future 6265 perfect, so please en-light me About the choice of the crown, witch one is the better choice for a 6263/5 ? 702 or 703 ? I have heard the 702 crown was "the" correct one, but not sure about it... About the choice of the S/N of the case, if anyone have a source with the "corrects" S/N / periods, I'm a taker... I have a big lack of knowledge with this. - 1x dial / handset for the 6239 - 1x 78350 bracelet - 3x Gen springbars - but do not know where to source it - and it's if will fit the cases - Maybe Gen 571 endlinks for the 6265... Why not ? Supposed to be perfect, no ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ That's all... Pretty quick in 3 months I think Oh, important note, if one of you guys have a Gen Daytona dial for the 6263 or the 6239 (with Gen hands, why not), I will probably be able to make a trade with the (future) 6263 or 6239, depending of the dial you have PM me if this is interesting you...! As always, all the comments are welcome R. PS: I decline all the responsibility if your modem is burning after this page loading

DW 6263 vs Gen Daytona: Photo Comparison (UPDATED 7/31)
Valty replied to lhooq's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks again for this photo comparisons (free bump to re-found this thread easily !) It's a mine of informations ! I will attempt to use your photos soon to make a comparison between : - 2nd generation DW case 6263/5 - 3st generation DW case 6263/5 - past generation (?) Phong case 6239/40 - current generation Phong case 6263/5 - and the gen 6263 case in your pictures R. -
Which Is Gen Or Rep ......or Are They Both Gen/rep?
Valty replied to Gadget Man's topic in The Rolex Area
The BK's one is really impressive - if we except the crappy crown I'm really surprised to see there is not so much differences... Both are in any case very great -
I obviously already seen (many times) your post I wanted to know because I'm currently thinking about buying a J&W case kit, and they claims crystal / crown / tube are genuine. What differences have you found why gen part you bought ? $1500 is absolutely incredible for a kit where you can only use the mid-case... Or are they selling only the mid-case ?
-
Love that ! (I already said that... ) I'm currently building the same... except my dial is not sigma... Hope it will be finished soon Just a question - do you used crystal / crown / tube provided by J&W ?
-
I have seen many rep 78350, and absolutely all the clasps screams "fake". The Yuki's one is probably the better choice - even if the coronet & engravements wrongs. About the bracelet, the Yuki's one is damn good, and the feeling is just great with a little of oiling ! But, why not go to the Gen one ? The price is not too high (considering it's vintage Daytona stuff ;-)), and trust me, it worth the cost ! You can also buy a Gen bracelet, sell the links, and keep the clasp
-
Thank you guys for the comments Really appreciated ! Here is the video, as I promised : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J78XWUgKZqA Seems a clear movement to me !
-
Hello LHOOQ && Ubi ! Thanks for the quick answers ! The seller said to me it's one of the last v72 produced, so I believe there is no problem about that. For the movement, I have asked the seller to make me a video of the watch with the chrono started, I will post it when I have it ! According to the seller, the movement have been serviced 2 years ago, and the watch have not been used so much since this servicing... Where can I source movement tabs ? Thanks ! R.
-
Hello RWG I will buy a Valjoux 726 soon, and I need some advice about the movement. I have 2 photos of it, and wanted to know if everything seems good on it ! If you have any remark, please let me know Do you know if it will fit correctly on a Phong's case ? Thanks ! R.
-
Surely obsolete movement, but it's all the charm of the vintage, isn't it ? That said, it explains why the v72 (and all the derivations) are costing much this times, it's more and more difficult to source a movement in good health. To me, the fair price of a v72 movement in good health in something like 600-700 EUR. The "real" question to me is... what is the fair price for a v726 movement ? If anyone have an idea -- This is why you have a vintage Daytona in your avatar ?
-
Warning, the half life of a radioactive component does not means the entire life is "half-life x2". My Tritium dial & hands still glows (with extreme light conditions, okay)... and it's from 1967
-
I seen exactly the same 6263 with red Paul Newman dial at the Time-Addict store in Paris for 200k€
-
It's a bit too pricy for some Tritium indexes, so yes, let's be reasonable I prefer to keep the money and buy anything else Also, if I would buy a Tritium dial, I would like to source an nicely aged dial, maybe with the Sigmas too ?
-
Thanks for the kind words guys I am actually planning to swap the current dial of my 6265 to this one ! Nobody's replicate the vintage Cosmograph dials correctly... So a gen dial is much much better, yes About the bezel, I'm quite satisfied with this one... Will see later, maybe
-
Lovely watches ! I especially like the design of the "Modern Bond"
-
Hello RWG Daytona's probably made me slightly crazy - many of you already know the problem... Look what the postman brought me kindly this morning : Is it serious, Doctor ? R.
-
Very nice Daytona I will have the same specs on mine soon... but with a black dial Anyways, the silver dial looks soooo good ! Wear it in good health ! PS: the chrono hands not resetting to the zeros is a common problem if you don't push the reset button at it's maximum. Got 2 V72, and both are doing this !
