+1 An experienced watchmaker is needed for this job, Changing parts is the only way to put gen hands on the movement. I can't count all the failed project I've seen here cause of this. For a successful project, you will need : - An experienced watchmaker - An El Primero mov. in good conditions. Means running at +/- 5 secs a day, and winding smoothly !!! A service on this movement is between 300 and 600€, depending of the watchmaker... Expensive - The conversion of your movement for the hands and the 2 positions for crown. Extremely hard to find, because there is a lot of parts to change. But I have to say I have a complete set to sell right now... You can expect spending at least 1500-2000€ in the pieces... Just for the movement R.

I can source this kind of pieces if needed... Only NOS / sealed stuff

Where to find a Zenith El Primero caliber for Daytona 16520 ?
Valty replied to Valty's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks for the input :-) I heard servicing is between 200 and 600€, depending of who is doing this... But it is a very special movement, I think I will not give it to anyone.... I have asked the seller if he can get the movement serviced for me... I will see !!! I think I will not use unserviced movement, because it will be some big pain in case I need it in 1 or 2 years... I heard hands are not liking to be removed / replaced many times... Plus it will be very difficult to find a watchmaker who can service the El Primero AND a replica.... To me, that's the biggest drawback on this kind of projects ! You are absolutely right ! I would kill me to remove the movement on this one... Yes, I know this kind of project is very expensive !! I have already many pricey projects in progress... 6240, 6265, 1665, all with full gen parts minus the case (Phong) If you can ask your seller, I would be very grateful !! -

Thank you for all this information The only thing that is bothering me is to "kill" this kind of watch to have a donor movement .... They are so beautiful ! I also found this : http://cgi.ebay.fr/Z...=item1e6e3707ef Trying to see with the seller if he can send with low value declared...! I suppose it is preferred to get the movement serviced before doing anything ? -

Valty replied to Valty's topic in The Rolex Area
Absolutely not, I'm pretty new in this model because it was not possible to me to source the gen 4030 parts needed to convert the movement for gen hands. Now I can, so I'm starting to look.... Thanks for the tip...!!!!! Much appreciated ! PS: They are all the same movement ? Only re-branding ? Have you an idea for a fair price these days ? -

Hello RWG All is in the title... I don't find any Zenith Caliber 400 for a good price right now... About that, the caliber 400 is the replacement for Rolex 4030, right ? I see a date system, is it a problem or not ? I want to be sure to catch the good movement Also, any idea about a "right" price these days ? Thanks R. -
Here is the "final" answer after some tests : The Phong bezel fits the MBW watch, but without the washer. It fits at 1/2 with the washer, and I am unable to fit it properly. I don't know if the MBW retainer ring have the same "inside" specs as gen/Phong - I have some doubts about it. For the outside, it's not the same dimensions as Phong/gen. However, I think it is possible to modify the washer to make the Phong bezel fitting ! R.

Thank you for the info Nanuq, greatly appreciated

Well guys, can anyone confirm us the 1665 bezel will not fit a 1680/5512/5513 ? I always read that they are all the same dimension. Only the 1665 bezel is a little thicker, depending of the period, but it do not change anything for the diameter right ? Cheers !

I can source gen NOS #800 crown and #8000 tube if you want to... Depending of your budget ! PM me if you want !
-
Quick info : Phong have sometimes multiple choices for the case backs, depending of the period you need (with, or without "C.R.S."). Be careful, as far as I know, he is not delivering "C.R.S." with strike "Patented". But I bet he can do the strike if you ask for it... Just ask him to see photos, and PM me if you are not sure about the case back you should take (depending of your S/N) R.

Well... Not very decent... But this hands are so hard to find... So I suppose it's OK these days for the price asked... Plus it is possible to negotiate with Tony... And, you have the guarantee with this seller to have genuine items, and not crappy aftermarket things, like I see very often on VRF these days... But he said to me the handsets were gone, so I suppose it's too late anyways... The less you use eBay in the Rolex aftermarket world, the better you will be

I have to say PBdad is doing a fantastic job in reluming dials... Just ask him about the "flat" reluming to be sure BUT, do not forget a relume will reduce considerably the value of your dial R.
-
Quick answer : The best hands was DW. Needs some adjustment on pinion as my watchmaker said, and needs to be glued to prevent slipping, but great value for the price & look. But now, DW is out... You can consider J&W hands, or Yuki hands (maybe NDT too ?). Just compare it by yourself. Do not hesitate to ask some better & more recent photos. Phong especially is known to do not have up to date photos. The aftermarket hands you will find will not have lume, or a very very few. No luminova I guess. No Tritium also. Maybe a mix between a little of luminova & some other material in the worst case... Just ask the seller, it is better :-) Or for few ( ) more bucks, there is some gen luminova hands on VRF right now. Tony A. is selling 2 or 3 sets at a very decent price, and he is a very kind guy to deal with (personal experience). EDIT: Decide what kind of dial you will buy *before* the hands... Not worthing the cost to buy gen lumi hands with a T dial... If you see what I want to mean

Show us your watches with bleached bezel inserts
Valty replied to watchguy51's topic in The Rolex Area
Maybe better to test with aftermarkets inserts before I guess ;) -
About the AD prices, I do not know.... But a used 78350 for $700-800 ? With 571's, maybe... But without, certainly not !!! To me, a good price these days for this band in good conditions is $350-400, even on VRF Last ads... : http://www.network54...9mm 78350 bands http://www.network54...19mm 78350 band Etc, etc...
-
For the #24-600, VRF or eBay I suppose, they are relatively easy to find at a decent price :-) Do not forget to get the tube (#24-6000), too

Very interesting, I wasn't is know about the brevet crown ! I guess it is very rare to see this kind of bird on the internet... >>> EDIT : I am unable to find any infos about PN's with "+" crown ? Where do you seen that ? Do you have more infos about the Triplocks crown used ? I suppose there is the 701's in the very late models, but 702's...?
