  1. Haven't finished the downloads yet to check the integrity, but here you go... Episode 8 http://isohunt.com/download/100247009/how+its+made.torrent Episode 6 http://isohunt.com/download/99548401/how+its+made.torrent Can't wait to see it!
  2. I just picked up a BP 5002 from another member and it is absolutely beautiful! One thing I have noticed is that the date does not change over completely and if the watch gets knocked slightly the date will actually go back (like from 14 to 13). I have seen a couple of posts where people send their BP off for mods and when it comes back they say "now date changes over nicely". So.... is this a common problem with a common fix? before I crack the case and start poking around, does this movement have a DW spring like the 2824 or 2836 movements? Thanks for any input
  3. WOW! They finally got the "OMEGA" right on this model. Notice how the letters are joined in the middle and not at the bottom? First time I have seen this on a rep! Very nice
  4. There is a gasket and considering that I have reused the gasket numerous times on 3 different UPOs and considering that the gen crystal has the exact dimensions as the rep, you should be fine.
  5. The bezel can be removed without a bezel removal tool but it takes some careful work. I used a case back removal knife (cost about $6.00) as it had a very thick blade and lifted the bezel up quite nicely. The only place you can really get under the bezel is between the lugs, get the tip of the knife under the bezel and gently lift. Next, turn the bezel and you will feel the bezel continue to lift from the case as the opening in the "C" shaped spring gets closer to where your knife tip is. Just keep turning that bezel and it will just pop off. Doing it this way I did not even bend the crappy rep bezel. Now I am just waiting for my Chief crystal to get back from the current run. My gen bracelet and gen 2008 dial are already installed and ready to go!
  6. I don't know what the deal is with these rep UPO crystals. I have 2 of them that have been coated and re-coated and going in for the third try. I have been polishing mine for two days and have polished it a total of 4 times with an overnight soaking in acetone in between polishing. I even took a steel brush dremel die to it and I still have signs of the original coating. Chief is going to try a new polishing compound on this next run, hope it works. If this round doesn't fix the issue I will either strip the outer coating and go with single sided AR or buy gen. I can say that Chief has been wonderful to work with on this issue and has gone way above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks Chief!
  7. One thing that I had happen once with a UPO was that the crystal was not pressed in completely flat and the second hand was raised up a little bit. The second hand would always get hung up on the crystal in the same spot. All I did was re-press the crystal and bend the second hand down just a touch and the problem was solved.
  8. Stop asking for the pearl... Over the last year or so I have gotten 4 bezel inserts from the dealers (Angus and Andrew) and every time the insert I ordered came with a pearl.
  9. Gen dial fits perfectly, I have tried the logo swap and just made a mess of things. Finally got too frustrated and swapped for a gen. Added gen hands and could not be happier!
  10. OK, so I got a deal on a gen titanium bracelet for my SMP chrono but my case is SS. Does that look totally lame to wear a Ti bracelet on a SS case or has this been done?
  11. Not totally unheard of and the replacement is easy enough to do. You should be able to ask around on the different forums if anyone has a spare bezel, sorry I just gave away my last orange one. Looks like you will need a pearl too. Any of our vendors could also sell you one or if you contact the seller and let him know he may just send you one. As for the install, pick up a tube of GS Hypo Cement, you will find yourself using it for many of your watch repairs so you should have some on hand anyway. Good luck, it's really not as bad as it looks.
  12. OK, so I really like my v2 Skyland but I would like to tighten up the bezel a little like I have done on some of my other watches. I realize the bezel screws don't really do anything but I thought I read somewhere else that somebody totally mangled his bezel trying to pop it off! Has anybody successfully gotten this bezel off without destroying it? If so, what technique should I use as it is impossible to get under the ring with a blade? Thanks in advance
  13. I thought the same thing, but the chrono links are actually thicker than the non-chrono and it ends up looking pretty funny. Thanks though
  14. Your bracelet should be a 1503-825. The 1504 is for the SMP Chrono. This I know because I bought the wrong gen bracelet off the 'bay for my chrono and got stuck with a 1503. Sooooooooo.... if you are interested in picking up a gen bracelet instead of just the clasp let me know and I can PM you the pics I do have.
  15. I recently got incredibly lucky on ebay and picked up a bunch of parts including the NEW gen dial (w/ gold OMEGA), gen hour hand, 2 gen register hands, gen crown, He valve (seller called it another crown) and gen pushers. Must have been a salvage job since the minute and chrono second hands were not available. Anyway, picked up the whole thing for $100! Now that I am done with my franken UPO I will be doing a franken SMP Chrono. I also have a gen bezel, any tips on how to remove the existing bezel on the chrono version?
  16. I have been in a few situations where I have avoided telling that I am wearing a rep without lying. Here are a few... them: "Dude, is that real?" me: "I sure hope so" or "Tell me what you think" them: "How much did you pay for that" me: "I got a good deal" or "a very fair price" and the classic, wearing my Franken UPO at the AD: "nice Planet Ocean, did you get that here?" me: "I work a lot in Las Vegas and spend a lot of free time in their great watch shops" My rule of thumb, don't talk too much or draw too much attention to your watch and let people make their own assumptions. Oh, and I know about not wearing reps to an AD, but with my gen bezel insert, gen dial, gen hands and gen bracelet I just couldn't resist!!!
  17. Yes, they are definitely a throwback to the 70s. You see kids wearing them now because the don't have the benefit of remembering how stupid they looked 35 years ago :D
  18. OK, that looks very nice, especially the pearl position! One thing to consider about inaccuracies is that there have been so many different versions of the over the years that inaccuracies can be hard to notice. I ended up buying three gen dials before getting the one I really wanted. First dial had the red indices on the outer ring but the subdial rings were a copper color instead of silver. Second dial had the silver subdial rings but white indices on the outer ring. Lucky lucky me, my last dial was the newest one with the gold Omega logo and silver rings around the hour markers!!! Anyway, yours looks good, you should be very happy with it.
  19. My wife has always rolled her eyes at my reps and when it comes to watches she says "I just like watches from Fossil". Well, recently she was showing me some watches in the Fossil store and I realized how much Fossil emulates the styling of many of the current luxury watches. In particular she was smitten by a very nice white "ceramic" ladies watch that looked an a lot like a ladies J12. I said to her "let me just buy you a "genuine rep J12" instead of Fossils version". She finally agreed and now loves her ladies J12 from Andrew. I would recommend going with the more expensive one that is all ceramic instead of ceramic over steel.
  20. Edgematic has not replied to me but I had 2 silix dials, sold one to one of our members for $35 + 5$ shipping CONUS and I still have one more. If anybody else still needs one I will give the same pricing, just let me know. First one to PM me gets it. I will let you know that I am selling these because I am just using the gen dial now. It was worth it after destroying the logo from another silix dial I had and realized that I would still have to pay to have my dial re-lumed to match my gen hands. good luck you franken project fiends!! :p
  21. Just fork out the $17.60 to get part HAN-4222 from Ofrei.com... it will be worth the trouble of trying to acquire a rep hand and paint it... BTW, the tip color is a flourescent orange, not red as the ofrei description says
  22. I have to second Khan's post. The hands aren't that hard if you use the pen refill and a piece of transparent tape. Make sure you are using a loupe so you can see what you are doing better, it just makes the whole job 100X easier! As for the insert, I ground the whole "ridge" off with a small ball shaped diamond grinding bit and my dremel. I even took it down to leave a slight concave groove on the backside of the insert so the GS Hypo cement would have a nice place to sit. Make sure you use a clamp to hold it in place while the cement sits so the insert will properly sit inside the bezel. I used the lid from a vitamin bottle that was just the right size to press down on the insert and clamped it in place. Good luck!
  23. It has been awhile, but I think I bought my dials from Jay for $35 each but paid $15 shipping. PM me, I may still have one around and if I do I can sell it to you for $35
  24. I just got my Skyland and I love it! Have you tried on the SA? I made 3 trips to AD's trying on the Skyland vs the SA before deciding on the Skyland. I have about 7" wrists and I can wear my Pam 111H nicely. But the SA just seemed a tiny bit too big for me. It was a close call, but I am definitely happy with my new Skyland!
