  1. Is there a difference between a 16000 case and a16200 case?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, there are significant differences: lug shape, curve, crown position, rehaut, caseback, case gasket groove, lugholes.

The 16200 has a depth rating of 100m, the 16000 only 50m. So the 16200 got a similar caseback like the 1016 which already got the improved caseback for the higher depth rating. Older 16200 got lugholes the newer ones don't, but the position is different to the 16000 series. Over all the 16200 has a fatter appearance.

What do you want to build?

  2. Hello,

I'm looking for sources for datewheel overlays. I know that there is the TC V2, but some people say it's sold out.

And I'm looking for white DWOs as well as champagne ones.

Is there anyone out there in the market?

    Thanks

  3. ..don't brother with a replica 6538 case. just get a tudor jumbo ref 9080 which is made with the same size as 1019 (and its still probably cheaper for now). rumors has it that Rolex used the left over 1019 case for the Tudor Jumbo...

Thank you! That's new to me. Another Rolex myth :)

  4. If you compare the case of the Datejust and the Milgauss you will realize that the Milgauss is bigger, I'd say the bezel is twice the size of the DJ bezel.

I think, if you really want to build a nice Franken, you'd be better off buying a 6538 and get a bezel machined by someone. Should be an easy job for someone with a lathe.

  5. There is no difference.

Not 100%, indeed there are two different versions of the 1680 case. One has a groove in the case underneath the retaining ring for a rubber gasket, the other version not. And as far as I know the cases with the groove appeared later with the white dial.

However there is no other difference.

  6. Be carefull with Germany. Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not. I belive it depends on the size of the parcel or envelope sometimes, I had a lot of stuff delivered from all over the world and it was never opened by the customs. But the items were allways sent in a small bubble envelope (not bigger than A5). So maybe they think that there can't be much value in such a small envelope :g:

Also I allways make sure the sender write a value below 22€ (total incl shipping) on it, as you know that's the limit (more then you have to pay 19% Mwst.).

However, if you want to be 100% use triangle shipping via UK, you could ask a member here or use a forwarder service like forward2me or ukpostbox.

  7. One thing is getting a good dial. When you don't want to spend big money for a gen dial, go for a NDT, ingod, Yuki, Minh (...) dial, then get it to a skilled modder who does great lume jobs.

And by the way, from the 70s to the 80s; there are dials with that puffy lume as well.

    Hope this helps. Happy Easter!

  8. Hi,

    Let me know.

  9. You have to differentiate: getting called out on the streets/office vs getting called out on the web.

It is or would be an rare occasion to run into a Rolex (...) WIS on the streets who then gets into a conversation with you and examines your watch (and call you out).

However on the web there are thousands of watch geeks and probably hundreds of WIS.

And about the franken watches: a franken is a rep with some degree of gen parts. Adding a gen insert to - let's say a TC Sub - makes it better, but it's just a small detail, as well as a gen crystal, it "just" adds some clarity and the correct LEC.

Of course a gen dial is the way to go if you're not on a tight budget. But you still have a rep case and/or rep bracelet.

But there are frankens that you can't recognize as such (from a picture). Like a good franken Datejust; you can get a gen case for under $200 a gen dial for about $100 and a gen Jubilee for $200 sometimes, add an ETA voila. So the exterior is all gen, you would have to open it to realize there is an ETA inside.

And what I noticed is that there are so many guys on gen forum who think they are THE WIS, but know very little. I've seen sooo many frankens posted on TRF and about 20 people congratulated until one person realizes it's fake.
