Put me down for V355 when all the kinks are ironed out
-
The Seagull manual wind chronograph (Lemania is actually a misnomer) is a good, dependable movement never had any issues with mine. However that depends on if you want a chrono Pam. If your leaning toward the historic Pams 111, 177 ect. then the high beat asian 6497 is a good choice, it sports a swan neck with dagger regulator, decent decoration, plus you save quite a bit over swiss. I've owned several Pam reps with both the swiss and asian movements and the asian movements preform very well.

I appreciate TT weighing in on this I was getting the sense that V was pushing for junior moderator. Quickly trying to muscle anyone with a contrary or negitive viewpoint, I was duly warned by her to submit or else. Oh well
-
I'll decide when or when not to post, thanks. Although you might start a new thread about imposing your views on board etiquette on others.
-
That pretty much sums up the futility of this thread.

Truer words have never been spoken, I agree totally. A supposedly "one stop" thread is useless, if you really want to learn, take the time to read and gain insight and knowledge from the many experienced members and their posts, look through watch magazines. And do your own legwork check out the AD hold the real deal in your hand that really does more than any picture or explanation can. Yeah it takes time, but if you love watches it's part of the fun.

Do people prefer a rep. over a preowned gen?
MK08 replied to supermoves's topic in General Discussion
Oh no I didn't know this was a popularity contest, woe is me. I think bottom line is if you have the resources to buy the gen it's a no brainer, and I think quite a few would agree (even members with a ton of reps) that the watches they get the most satisfaction out of are the gens they own. Your mileage may vary. -

MK08 replied to supermoves's topic in General Discussion
I really can't think of any reasons for going for a rep over a gen, except it being out of price range, or a model your really not crazy about and just want to check out. Reps are never totally satisfying, even after spending hundreds of dollars to make them look 98% like the genuine, at the end of the day it's still a rep. Then there are QC issues, mechanical issues, there's no guarentee your rep that's new today will still be running a few month's down the road. I recently liquidated all my reps and decided to go all gen for a while, and purchased a Panerai, and I can honestly say having owned some pretty heavily modded Pams and comparing side by side, there is no comparison in the fit and finish and just the "feel" of a gen. And when you truly love a certain brand nothing compares to having the real deal. -
Actually the sub I sold to Tankster is an 087 1000m with blue dial. The 064, black dial with silver seconds sub dial (C series, limited to 500) is the original "La Bomba", although the 087 shares the same hulkish case dementions and so is also a "La Bomba" in it's own right. Now return to your regularly scheduled programing
-
Tankster I'm glad you like the 087, it is a beefy watch especially teamed with that strap. And it was a pleasure dealing with you, enjoy the new additions, I'm sure they won't be your last Pams
-
Well to each their own
-
Does that mean to be historically accurate and show true appreciation for the brand I have to wear my Pam so tight I cut off circulation to my hand?
-
GRREEEAAATTTT choice Anton enjoy it!!
-
I agree 100% go with Vacuums 177 I'm sure you won't be disapointed that baby has all the mod's and his work is second to none. The next step after that would be buying a gen!
-
Ye be best not to jump to conclusions before ye discover the facts

@ssbripo That 177 for sale over at repgeek, is from another modder, Thumbmods. He does very good work, he built me a 177 a while back, if you end up with that one I'm sure you will be satisfied. The 082 is a great choice it's the only model I'd consider buying from Davidsen, whatever you end up getting post some wristshots!
-
Well with what's been happening recently, you can't get more of a crapshoot than dealing with Davidsen's spotty QC. Actually I've dealt with several modders on the boards and each time I've recieved a watch back it has exceeded my expectations. You really can't beat the gen feeling a custom lume job and lever mod (in addition to the usual suspects like cannon pin and crown) give, not to mention buying from one of the other dealers get's you a dial with more accurate font, which is an ongoing problem with Davidsen's offerings. And the level of communication you get during the process (especially with Vacuum) is second to none. Yes you will pay more, but it's like comparing a steak from Perkin's to one from Ruth's Chris.
-
Yeah I have to agree with some of the other comments if you want truly ultimate, steer away from Davidsen. Start with a nice 177 from Josh, Andrew or Angus, then send off to Vacuum for his custom lume, lever mod, cannon pin fix, and a thicker crown. It's too bad there really isn't a true perfect, out of the box solution for the 177. It really depends on how involved you want to get.

Check that should have looked at the link first The watch case is actually stainless with a Ti-Ion coating, real Tantalium is a much darker metal this one is really not that close at all IMHO. If you want Ti go for the much more accurate 176 base dial no running seconds or 177 with running seconds. One other real nice offering from Davidsen is the 082 Amerigo Vespucci, a limited edition Pam, Ti with an absolutely awesome blue dial (that might make up for not getting the blue hands ) Anyway enjoy whatever you get when you make your final descision, this will probably be the first of many (as alot of the members here will tell you the Pannie bug bites hard).
-
Hi nice choice, it's actually made of Titanium not Tantalium (I have the 192 - gen is also Tantalium, but the rep is Ti, blue hands, and the addition of a chronograph complication). I also like the contrast of the blue hands and the look and light weight of the Ti, enjoy it.

Hi Robb, You really don't have to go crazy to find nice straps, I'm not of the mindset that you need a hundred different straps to constantly change. Some really great straps at really reasonable prices are BOB straps (Estaban has a great post of his 111 on a BOB Vertigo Aligator, very sharp combo) you can find him on Fleabay or his website http://anonym.to/?http://www.waccex.de/catalog/. Enjoy the new addition.
-
That is a great combo! I've always loved Bob straps some of the best bang for buck straps out there.

UPDATE: PICS! DSN Ultimate 112. First rep, first review.
MK08 replied to inmotion's topic in The Panerai Area
Inmotion: don't worry about overwinding bro, just wind the crown till you feel it won't go anymore (about 50 or so sounds right) that assures you full power reserve. I always wind mine to full capacity and have never had a problem with any of my 6497's, it's a pretty hearty movement. Enjoy the new addition!
