  1. The Katt is in the Midwest, and is an outstanding basic watch repair/mod person. He is extraordinarily reasonable and friendly. He is an trusted watchsmith on RWI. Last year he repaired and serviced a Seagull ETA clone for me for $85 shipped and paypal'd .. photo updates, and emails returned cheerfully.

There is a RWG trusted modder/watchsmith in Florida as well. Vacuum!! He is a little mysterious .. replying in one-word cryptology .. but he's very good.

So while in my opinion Zig is the God of forum trusted watchmakers, he's not the only one in North America. Send him your items which require his skills, and justify the use of his time. Send your common repairs to someone with a more open schedule.

    Sound reasonable ??

Great post, I'll have to copy this for future reference!

  2. Uh ... "BK" is a respected modder on this forum and others. What he does is buy replica watches and then modifies them, and re-sells them in their improved condition.

Think of it like an AMG Mercedes or a Callaway Corvette ... you are paying for the base watch and for BK's labor, parts and expertise. That is why it costs. You are buying a modded watch "as new".

I should really write a STICKY FAQ about this one day. Here goes:

NoobFactory = Cartel = BK's base watch (UNMODDED) = TimesShop ... these are all the same watch. It's called the v5 Ultimate but that's a poor decision on Josh and Andrew's part. There was already a factory making a DSSD called the V5 .. so way to go, guys .. super confusing. People who know, just call it the Noobfactory DSSD.

TrevorTime sells the real v5 model. It is unique.

The MBK v6 is also unique and it's still rare.

Thank you for the clarification. After going and looking at BK's thread for his DSSD, I could tell the money wasn't just for the standard DSSD.

What makes Trevor's DSSD "the real v5 model"?

  3. When JKAY says ETZ-DSSD-V52010.. I think he means TREVOR-DSSD-V52010

Etz = Eurotimez, who is no longer a dealer here. So it could just add to the confusion by calling the new V5 an ETz version

Since trevor is one of only 2 or 3 dealers that sell this version.. referring to his version as the Trevor V5 2010 Dssd is a little bit clearer. :)

IN my opinion, the best version is Trevors. It looks the best and has the best endlinks (usually no gaps).

http://www.trevor-watch.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=129 Despite his description, his version is not the so-called "ultimate" that other dealers are seling.

For $225 you can't get a better DSSD at the moment... at least until the mythical V6 is in stock

What's the difference between the $225 and the $338 versions?

I'm looking at Timesshop... good price for the DSSD.

  4. I think perhaps Connie was misunderstanding you, or the other way around. I bet she means that the Asia Clone ETA was the best value. Absolutely no one in their right mind would say that the clone 3135 was the "best value" . That's just ridiculous.

She said her model for $385 was the best... I don't know. I would prefer Swiss, I just want to make sure it looks as close to gen aesthetically as possible.

  5. Fellas and ladies, I thought my desire for a Rolex would end with a Sub so I got one. Now, I find myself wanting a DSSD. For those of you out there who have one:

-Where did you buy it? Good product?

-Swiss ETA or Asian clone movement?

I'm thinking I want it, I've sent a couple e-mails to sellers... I may be pulling the trigger soon.

If someone has one they may be looking to unload, let me know!

  6. Thanks for the info! When it comes to reps, I care about how they look and how they run, not what the movement looks like! I would rather have a quality Swiss movement than a shotty movement that looks gen... because like you said, anyone who I have open the watch is going to know it's a rep! If the 3135 clone has been improved since they came out, that's one thing. But like I said, the stuff I read only talked about it falling apart.

  7. I looked through some old posts about the Asian clone of the 3135 movement and am still a little confused... why does "the best" DSSD have an Asian movement? Most of what I read (although over a year old) says the Asian clone falls apart and is a piece of ****. So why does the most expensive, best model of the DSSD have an Asian movement?

I e-mailed Connie and she said the Asian clone model is the best to buy... anyone out there have some info? Thanks.

  8. Josh and Andrew both went down for "maintenance" just before the problems, Both are back up now at their old URLs

One might speculate that they got word and closed up shop until the storm passed, but that would be a cynical thing to think -

Still, Blue Fakes and Watchez both went down, no great loss there!

Blue Fakes has been down for a while... those guys were [beep]ers!
