A potential solution to the United States mortgage crisis
rogerthat replied to Nightstroker's topic in The looney bin
Just curious: what would be the downside to offering 0 capital gains ona future sale for anyone willing to buy a house in the next 6 months. Assuming banks are still lending you would get a ton of renters looking to buy and tons of investors pouring money into houses that might otherwise foreclose? Could solve the housing crisis overnight at least for 6 months. What is the negative, future lose of money? Sounds like at least a bandaid solution better than one I have heard yet. Depends on the area I guess in my area the housing situation is not that bad, in Las Vegas it is. Cheers, M -
Personally I don't care for any watch with chrono pusher covers or whatever the hell you call this ungodly things. Cheers, M

Is this crystal Gen? Do I have the right gasket size?
rogerthat replied to rogerthat's topic in The Rolex Area
No I almost certain the bezel is genuine. It does look quite different than the rep bezel. The crystal I am not so certain and was hoping for an answer. My camera just stinks, I can never seem to get a clear shot unless Iam outdoors in sunlight. Cheers, M -
My post was here but was useless as I have the previous rep bezel not the newerone advertised as full ceramic. See my other post though with a picture of the gen bezel. Cheers, M

Found on Ebay, but before anyone gets too excited, it may not fit the rep. I will let you know how I make out. Cheers, M -
A few questions? How can I tell if this crystal is gen, I looked for the etched crown logo but I cannot for the life of me see anything? Also need to know if this is the correct gasket, should be a #2 gasket. Lastly an image of a gen bezel for the GMTIIc. Hopefully these parts will come together to make one hell of a franken rep. Cheers, M

Below are pics of my 3 gen croc straps: Cheers, M

I got mine the other day too, I was shocked that they would pay the postage to the US to send this to me. I have spent about $50 with them in total. Good to have as a reference tool though and I appreciate it. Wish they carried more gen parts. Cheers, M

Chrono King, I understand what you are syaing that $400 is too much to spend on the strap aone, with some patience you can find them cheaper but it takes time. What I don't understand is you mention the gen croc strap has mixed reviews? From who, the gen croc strap is amazing! Best croc strap I have ever seen, I owned an equally as pricey Simona Gator Strap that are considered the best gator/croc for Panerai and it paled in comparison to the Breitling gen. Walk into an AD and look at a gen or try onw on and see what you think, any Breitling AD will have 5+ watches with croc straps already on them for you to try. They are a little stiff at first otherwise top notch. Cheers, M

They are all the same regardless of dealers, at least with our good dealers, I am sure there are even worse one's out there. Quality is OK, just not nearly as close to gen as the calf. The rep calf are very close to gen the rep croc is not. If you like the look and cannot afford the gen croc than give it a try, it is not bad. The main issue with it is that in your hands it feels like a calf stamped croc strap, given what it is, it is actaully a very good example of a croc stamped calf strap. Other minor issues include inaccurate stamping. Likewise the main reason the rep calf is so good is that it is the correct material. Pretty simple material issue really when you give it some thought. GMT II ceramic with the right hand stack ?
rogerthat replied to klocklind1's topic in The Rolex Area
"without all of the problems" think you a bit confused on the history of this rep model since release. The CHS or Right Hand Stand is what caused most all of the problems. Problems still exist in the other models but no where near as many as with the CHS version. I thought the factory stopped making them becuase the return rate was so bad, but they may have started up again as I heard Josh was offering again a CHS. Some members have been lucky with them but to think of them as a probloem solver is very inaccurate. Cheers, M -
Sorry to hear this horror story Woody. Murhy's Law has yet again prevailed. I may be interested in your ceramic GMT with issues as I am embarking shortly on a franken project for this watch and may need a another case/bezel as there is a good chance I will ruin the original and the gen won't fit. Cheers, M

I saw a Gen ceramic bezel for sale and I jumped on it. Pictures below. I have the bezel and a rep watch in my hands, but these are the pictures from when the bezel was purchased not my pictures. Compared to the rep it does look different, the numbers are "whiter" and the ceramic is a bit more shiny. Nicer finish. I have read that getting the whole bezel off is not easy if not impossible. I have no problem paying a modder to get this to work if it is something I can not do, but I am not sure what to even request. The Zigmeister won't touch this watch, maybe Vacuum would? Would you attempt or ask a modder to attempt to swap the whole bezel or would you just swap the bezel inserts? Do you think this is a waste of money and won't work? Opinions please... I bought the bezel without really thinking about how to install it. I also have an Cheif AR'd cyclops that is sitting here becuase I have my watch apart and still having trouble getting the rep cyclops off. Tried heat for a few minutes, tried the electric stove now the crystal is sitting in a bowl filled with Acetone. Cheers, M

Lanikai bought the mags from an Ebay source? They had to be purchased installed on a crystal and then removed which was harder than anticipated especially in bulk quantity. He tested them and proved them to be in fact Sapphire. I am not sure if anyone ever removed the rep mag, but it was feared that they were mineral crystal and would not work for the AR coating. Lanikai invested a considerable number of hours to make this happen: The board really benefits from members like Lanikai, he showed amazing patience and determination to finish this deal. 1.) there were numerous small problems and questions along the way which I think tested Lanikai - the seller was a jerk to begin with 2.) not as many members participated, so the overall numbers were lower than expected 3.) the amount of work was not something I would think he would want to put in again Although #2 may be solved by another group run, #1 and #3 will likely prevent another member or Lanikai from ever attempting this again. On his posts you could follow the same steps on your own and get it done, the cost really was not the main issue. Mag would have to be sapphire to work. A few of us including myself got them back recently from Cheiftang but no one I have seen has installed the new mag yet. Have to remove the rep mag first of course. I also bought a gen bezel not sure if it will fit, but I now have some work to be done obviously. Cheers, M

GT is still my favorite watch. Needed some mods though to make it look right in my eyes. Cheers, M

I know I received mine a few days back but have yet to attempt it. Just bought a gen bezel that may or may not fit, so I figure I will do both mods at the same time and may just send the whole thing to The Zigmeister early next year when he can fit me in. Would love to see some pics if anyone has installed their new AR'd cyclops though or maybe even horror stories or a pictorial if a member would be so kind. Thanks again to Lani for making this happen and to Cheiftang for continued great service. Cheers, M

All the gens are the same color, they just sometimes look different in photos and sometimes Breitling books/catalogs picture them differenty from some reason may they photoshop the images and it messes with the color. I have online and in print seen different versions but in person they all look the same and it is a very dark maroon. The first batch of reps were very red, the next improved font color is a light maroon. Though better it is still not accurate, needs to be a couple of shades darker to match the gen. Crazy that they can't get this right. But this has been discussed before and the 6.75 is not the only Bentley with this issue. Cheers, M

How will this financial mess affect rep world?
rogerthat replied to milsub5517's topic in General Discussion
China is so dependent on the US and other larger consumer markets that I would not call them cash rich anymore. If we feel pain they will fell it too and already are. Seems obvious that at least for the short term purchases will go down and if purchases stay down for more than a few months prices will follow. In the US we are all hoping that after the election regardless of who wins will bring about consumer and market confidence as right now everyting is at a standstill. Most companies are saving their money and cutting costs, but they also know that they can not continue this for long and succeed long term. Cheers, M Cheers, M -
The gen croc is very stiff but looks fantastic. It does loosen up after a month or so of wearing regularlly. I have 2 and fine them very comfortable. Both are 22MM and shades of Brown. From 3 feet a way the rep croc straps like the same, they are comfortable but the are very obvious upclose that it is a calf strap with printed croc pattern. Has a plasticy feel. Feels much different than the gen. I think it is worth $200 - $250 for a gen tang croc. Take your time and look around and you will find them new or very lightly used in this price range. I paid $220 for 1 and $180 for the other , bought both on Ebay months apart. The depolyant type will cost you more as they rarely are for resale or discounted. I owned 2 rep croc Breitling straps and disliked them both, since resold. That said for $40 not a bad idea to give it a try and see what you think, you can always resell it here for $30 or so if you don'tlike it. Cheers, M

The gen definitely has good lume. The rep White Thames has decent lume, this watch the Black Thames I have heard has very poor rep lume. I can't think of any rep of any brand with gen like lume though, so either plan to send your watch to The Zigmeister or another modder to relume or reset your priorities in terms of lume. Lume from rep watches is never very good. Cheers, M

Although Josh is a great dealer, I would be shocked if he said something he sold is inaccurate. I maybe have heard that type of candid response from Angus, but no other dealer. Cheers, M

I am sorry to hear of your problem. But it should be pointed out that hundreds have been sold to board members, and this is the first problem of this nature I have heard. I have purchased 2, 1 Asian when they very first came out and 1 ETA more recently. Both were supplied with the cyrystal a little off - higher on the 3 oclock side - 1st one much worse than the sceond. But by pressing the crystal all the way in it in no way interfered with the hands. Although no consolation to you, it is more likely somehow you received a dog with flies and maybe 2x from the same batch. Maybe it is a gasket issue, is your gasket bent preventing it from going in correctly? Cheers, M

Angus / PureTime sells the ceramic bezels seperately. Cheers, M
