Help! Need To See PAM253 w/Tan, Brown or Choc Strap?
rogerthat replied to mseanschmidt's topic in The Panerai Area
I have a few new straps on order for my PAM253 (Brown ones) I will post some shots when I get them, may have to wait a week though! Cheers, M -
Thanks Takashi, exactly what I was hoping to hear. Cheers, M

NOOB question here. How do I remove the strap from the ICD CD? Seems like a special screwdriver may be needed , allen wrench? Cheers, M
-
Love how the numbers on the outer bezel look with the PVD finish. Great Job, strap work well too. I assume you PVD'd the buckle too, or does Dirk sell PVD buckles? Cheers, M

Full disclosure and accurate descriptions in sales ads.
rogerthat replied to a topic in General Discussion
I have been fortunate to have some sucess selling and buying reps that have been lightly used. With the way many of these reps are coming from the dealers, at least buying one already in the possession of an honest member allows you to know of any problems before hand, avoid customs risks and last but not least feed our fix during Chinese New Year shut down. day & date wheels on the breitling Bentley GT
rogerthat replied to db1's topic in The Breitling Area
Font Breitling has it's own font so it will not match ETA, but it doesn;t match the current rep either. Lello makes Breitling datewheels which look great but would not work with this watch, reat for the BCE though. Even a well modded rep will never be a Gen, so make sure you know that before you purchase anything. AR Both cheiftang and jacob offer different options. Each require some customs risk on your behalf though if you have to send the whole watch. You can of course send them just the removed crystal, but If you don't want you are doing, and don't have a local watchsmith to assist you may want to send the whole watch. Popping the crystal out is not rocket science but you have to take apart the watch. No real worries about it being different after aslong as you don't do something stupid like bend a hand or mess up the movement. This watch likely is not waterproof, so a sealed gasket if that is your concern should likelynot be an issue. You can push out the crystal from the backside with your thumb and some pressure. Don't believe thereis any way to get it out without opening it up through the back. The bezel is not removable, so don't even try, screws are for show only. With cheif: many people send their entire watch to The Zigmeister who does the disassembly and reassembly. The Zigmeister is widely respected asone of the best in the business I would rather have him take apart my watch than any of the dealers that sell the watch. The Zigmeister is in Canada, Cheif is in the US but that doesn't really matter to you if dealing with The Zigmeister. Believe you would pay them each seperately. With Jacob, he offers this service in house with the AR coat. He says it is done by a professional watchsmith and I would have no reason to doubt him. Many people have sent the whole watch. Jacob is in Poland. All told you are probably looking in the $100 USD ballpark either way maybe more with shipping. Problem is the waiting, you may be without your watch for 2 months and that is if you make the list. I would recommend, wearing it as is for a while first until you buy your 2nd rep ; then send it out and wear the 2nd rep. That is how the game starts and there is no real end. Cheers, M -
I would guess that a few of my 7750's gain 15 seconds maybe even 30 seconds each day when worn. To me that is accurate enough and a small price to pay. As long as we are talking seconds not minutes within a day. Cheers, M

Before you go any further with the dealer, I would substanciate some of these complaints. Seems like the Chanel has some issues, the Corum sounds normal honestly. Don't what to pick sides here, but what the dealer said regarding the Corum made sense. Even Gen ETA 7750 can be noisy, recipient could be complaining about the rotor spinning around. Crystal likely in comparison to a Gen with double AR coat. Lack of lume on reps is fact not a defect. Too hard to make a conclusion. Cheers, M

day & date wheels on the breitling Bentley GT
rogerthat replied to db1's topic in The Breitling Area
The gens are all dark maroon, sometimes in pictures they look black, but they are not. The reps are all bright red. This is a very known and widely discussed flaw with most all the Bentley reps and one of the reasons they are not one of the most accurate reps, white rehault too wide, lack of AR, non-functioning inner moving bezel, recessed date wheel, poor lume, etc... If you want a $8K watch you will have to spend more than $250-300 apparantly. I am likely going to swap move day/date wheels to ETA, this would make them black so they will not be accurate but personally I think this would be better than the bright red on the rep. When I am done I will post some pics, also going to be doing a relume with C1 color which to me looks closer to gen and swapping movement to Swiss 7750, which hopefully will help the recessed date wheel. You cannot buy maroon date wheels so either stick with the bright red or go for the ETA black. Cheers, M -
Many of us our patiently waiting. I assume it will come, but it likely will require a rep. factory buying a gen and you can't buy the gen bracelet anymore. Very few gens are sold and/or were sold on bracelets, all new bracelets are sold on watches only, you can nolonger buy the bracelet only (I read this on Timezone) There will be buyers if they rep it well that is for sure, but I think it may be 6 months or so away personally. Cheers, M

Great post Lani Very informative and on point Cheers, M

gt was from Eddie Lee (not reallyin business anymore) bought in '06 gt racing from Ruby bought in '07 there are many good dealers. the factory made a couple of changes like the bracelet, caseback, ar, brushing the case; but the dials, subdials, hands, lume never changed between these 2 models. the caseback looks much better on the racing model (one with car) quality of caseback engraving is equal to gen. gt model (wing logo and text) caseback is definitely not as good as the gen. cheers, M
-
go by the pictures, not neccessarily the words on the dealers sites in terms of colors. i owe the white dial version of both the gt and gt racing. they are the exact same dial with the exact same subdials. cheers, M
-
Looks Gen to me! May be some interested members if you are looking to sell, including myself. The best check on Breitling buckles or deployants is to look at the underside of the stamped wing logo. Takes a little work to access this on the deployant. If the metal on the backside shows a stamping depression on the other side it is a rep. If you can't tell that the front was stamped by looking at the back, it is gen. I have a gen and a rep buckle, and that is the most obvious way to tell the difference. Cheers, M

Search the Breitling forum for Bentley GT, I did a long write up comparing the 2 watches. Couple of corrections to your post: both the GT and GT Racing come with the newer 28.8K Asian 7750. The GT Watches from Josh, Andrew, King plus Ruby, Angus, TWP, Silix, etc... are all the SAME. Anyone who has the white dial can sell you the blue dial and vice versa. Both gens come in white, black, blue and red which are all red. The gen also had a green I think but that color was not repped. I would recommend the GT racing over the standard GT, the rep is slightly better. There are differences between both as well as differences between the rep and gen, search for my thread, read and learn. The Gen white dial versions of both have slightly more silver subdials than on the reps. The blue, black and red dials haveother noticable flaws though. I love this watch and am getting some mods done to it now, butit will never be the most accurate watch to gen. Cheers, M

Definitely true, 21K version of Asian 7750 is usually a straight swap with a Swiss 7750, and the newer 28K version of the Asian 7750 is not so straight due to different hand sizes, but I think the issue with this watch is the date at the 4:30 position? Regular 7750 date placement is usually at the 3:00 position. Not sure if that means extra gears or exactly what is involved. As you mentioned though, no need to fix what ain't broke. Cheers, M

Looks great Pix. I was one who bought the pricey Ceramic bezel version before the Lite days. Don't regret it though it is still my favorite watch! That said, the Lite is a great buy. With all the versions and the lites now selling well,I find it hard to believe that they haven't yet repped a bracelet for the HBB. Must be coming soon, there is a big market for it. Also wanted to add, you mentioned swapping the movement in the HBB to Swiss, but The Zigmeister posted about this once. It was nearly impossible, think he sucessfully did one but took many extra parts (3 movement's worth I think) and I am pretty sure he is not swapping movements on this watch anymore. Cheers, M

IWC Cousteau vs. BCE Ultimate vs. Navitimer
rogerthat replied to ALEX.CPA's topic in General Discussion
What I really should have said is to buy which of the 2 you like best. The IWC and Breitling you mention look entirely different. One is sporty the other dressy. Do not make you choice between the 2 based on which is a better made, they are both excellent. Exclude the Navi ; look closely at the IWC and BCE ; check out some wristshots or better yet go to an AD and try them on (Tourneau flagship store in NYC has both models on display) Cheers, M -
IWC Cousteau vs. BCE Ultimate vs. Navitimer
rogerthat replied to ALEX.CPA's topic in General Discussion
I voted for the IWC as at least it's flaws our fixable for the most part. Relume, date wheel change, upgrade movement to Swiss. Numerous posts by people here that have inserted a real wood piece into the back. To me besides the datewheel which can be fixed without too much difficulty ; the BCE has engravings around the bezel that do not look like a gen and you could never fix that. The SFSO has similar engravings that look much better! The dial also has very subtle concentric circles vs. the Gen from what I have seen as well. I own the IWC and I used to own the Ultimate BCE but have since sold it. HBB would win for best out of box chrono over these 3 options. Cheers, M -
Based on what I have read you can not go wrong with SVS. The low end base response is the best. The physcial attributes may not be (big in size, not the prettiest girl in the room) Don't get me wrong I wouldn't kick her out of my living room / HT. I have owned a few Velodyne's, Mirage, Infinity, NHT ; Current sub is the Sunfire True Subwoofer. Very wife friendly with one hell of an amplifier section (2700 watts peak), tons of power but due to the small size not the low end response of the SVS. My current system has powered front towers plus the Sunfire sub so it has plently of base. I have 2 HT / Sound type rooms in the house, so I would love to hear what you think about the 20-39 when you get it, it is a down the road purchase for me to get another sub. My only complaint about SVS is as you likely know, becuase they have a cult like following you can never get a good price on a used one plus the new ones are only offered online so you can not go to the store and test hear them. One of the Velodyne's and the Sunfire cost at least double what your SVS is likely costing and your's well outperform them in my opinion based solely on what I have read over the years. A knoweldgeable person I know told me JL Audio's new home theatre subs are the best made for low end power. Think the retail is $3K each though... this person added 2 in one HT room. Cheers, M

Great job, big improvement! The rep has no lume at all, otherwise a great rep though. Cheers, M

First purchase = Black dial VCO from Silix
rogerthat replied to turdfurgeson's topic in Other Brands Area
Thanks for sharing. I have this same watch and think it is a great value for the money. Couple of tips I wanted to share re: the bracelet. 1.) don't be afraid of the screws ;I haveremoved every screw in the watch, no issueswhat so ever, just need therightsize screwdriver. Wrong size and you will likely strip a screw head. This is one of the easiest watches to resize for the bracelet. Tiny screw on 1 side holds a pin in the middle. Wish it had a micro adjustment though.... 2.) Remove and wash the bracelet, mine was pretty dirty, dull and not very smooth. After a good washing with dish soap, followed by a WD-40 bath ina bagof oil plus a good Mother's Car Polish the bracelet looks and feel so much better. 3.) Maybe most important, my screw head tips kept sticking out when I would wear the watch. Looked fine in the morning and then by 3Pm or so Iwould look down and see2 screw heads peeking out. I stopped wearing it for a couple of weeks as a result. Never lost a screw or pin but thoughtI would . Maybe it was all that WD-40? My solution: too out each screw and put Blue Loctite 232 on the threads. Since doing that not one screw has gotten loose and looks as good at 8 AMas late at night. Guess only issue isnow resizing it could be very difficult, butif it fits andyou don't plan on selling it,it is a must do step with this watch. If ascrew falls outthe entirepin will follow and your watch will fall to thefloor and either break or be embarrassing. Cheers, M -
Pugwash's choice of Replica of the Year 2007
rogerthat replied to Pugwash's topic in General Discussion
Pug I don't think anyone could argue that this watch is the most accurate and best built replica watch for 2007; but is it the best replica watch of 2007. In my opinion it is much easier to make a $300 watch look like a $2500 watch than a $10,000 watch. Seems like best rep should take into account a percenentage of cost vs. gen into consideration? Overall I do not find the SFSO very impressive, very nice watch and extremely accurate (yes I do own a Swiss version). If you had the ability to buy any Gen under $10K (not your money scenerio, just $10K spend it on one watch or lose it) Would anyone here buy the SFSO, I know it would not be on my radar. Cheers, M
