  1. These watches aren't much. I guess you'd call then fantasy models- Rolex never made anything like them. 100m=330ft, not 220ft, so the first dial is wrong. There's never been a black dial sub with a blue bezel. There was a 1680 in the 70's with a blue dial and blue bezel, but that's about it.

But at $60-70 plus shipping you're not spending too much money, So if you like them, who cares. They're just not very accurate as reps go.

Couldn't have said that better. +1

  2. Well, this was really just an experiment. I have a 'Vollmer' German-made, ultra high quality 22mm mesh strap in my parts box...

It was originally purchased for a Gen 1966 Breitling chrono I sold a long time ago. I have wondered how a Fiddy would look on one, but was too cheap to pay the 64 bucks from 'Watchstyle' in the U.K. I found this super-cheapie on the Bay- $3.99 plus a couple bucks for shipping! It arrived today, and the jury is still out. Suprisingly it's made very solid but A- It's too thin, and B- It's too shiny. Notice the darker color of the Vollmer, on the right:

I'll have to wear it for a while to see if I'll order the Vollmer.

    Ciao, Arty

  3. Something funky happened when you posted that- Is this the rest of it?

    Hello all,

could please someone point me in the right direction (or explain)?

I really like the black steel breitling reps. However I am not exactly sure what black steel is. If it is PVD, than no thank you. I have an expensive gen PVD watch, and only after a short time there are a couple of nicks on it, where the steel shines through. That drives my crazy, as I really anal about my watches. (A nick on a SS watch is much less visible, and therefore disturbs me way less).

Is black steel PVD? Or is it the same material deeper down too?

Which model / vendor would have a guaranteed Breitling black steel ?

    Thank you for your advice!

  4. High temps and high humidity in Central FL for the past couple weeks prompted me to order this plain jane water and sweat-proof generic rubber strap...

I may mount one of my pre-V buckles to it, but for now it'll do great as is. Happy weekend! Arty

  5. Put on? I'm not sure what you mean. Can you elaborate ?

    This is a genuine question.

Boy, did I misinterpret this. Between the date on the dial issue and you wanting to age a dial that already has a terrific aged lume look to it; I thought something suspicious was going on with your question. Apologies...
