  1. I put wreck divers and cave divers in the same group too. They are driven by something I can not fully understand. I think that is why I am still here. You may want to locate a copy of The LAST DIVE A Father and Son's Fatal Decent into the Oceans Depths written by Bernie Chowdhury It tells the story of a father and son's obsession to be the first to discover the identity of a German U- boat sunken in 230 feet of water off the New York coast.
  2. "What we become depends on what we read after all of the professors have finished with us. The greatest university of all is a collection of books." Admin Carlyle
  3. I have read Into Thin Air twice now and it is intense. Climbing Everest has to be the ultimate test of human endurance. One out of four climbers attempting to summit die on the mountain. Imagine going up the mountain with your expedition team fully knowing that for every 4 of you who attempt to summit the odds are one of you will not be coming down. People still pay $50,000 for the chance to try.
  4. Where are you studying? I have my LLB but have never practiced.
  5. I usually have a few on the go at any one time. Right now I am reading What the Bleep do we know!? by: William Arntz, Betsy Chase and Mark Vincente. This is based on the movie of the same title and it expands on the principles the movie dealt with. The other one is a book I am re-reading because it helps to remind me that I already have the best life has to offer me. It is called The Lazy Person's guide to Success by Ernie J. Zelinski. I purchased it spontaneously not expecting much and now I am on my third run through it. It offers an interesting take on success and happiness.
  6. I am a "Parrot Head" and I listen to Jimmy Buffet pretty much all the time. Channel 31 on Sirius is Margarita Radio so it is pretty much all Jimmy all the time. I fill my Jimmy listening gaps with The Boat Drunks, Serena Ryder, Vann Johnson, Eek-a-Mouse ... "Biddy biddy bong bong" .., The Bells, Van Morrison, Johnny Klegg and War. Also, I'm a fan of Doo Wop and my favorite artists are: The Skyliners, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Jay and the Americans.
  7. Welcome to the forum. Browsing through the different sections will be a great help in getting up to speed on the whole rep thing. When I first visited this forum I spent a couple of weeks read through old threads trying to learn as much as possible about reps in general. Initially, I was focused on Rolex but discovered that there was a whole big rep world of which Rolex was only a part. Also, learning about reps is really more like a hobby than actual study. Good luck
  8. I really can not notice a difference between the bezel of the Daytona and the rest of the watch. Until now I had never known that the Daytona had a Rhodium plated bezel.
  9. This is a very informative thread and I appreciate what I have been able to learn from it. Here is what I have so far: It is hard to distinguish the difference between the look of the metals unless they are compared side by side and even then the difference is subtle, with platinum being the whiter of the group and stainless the darkest. Anybody care to comment if I have got it summed up?
  10. This is a real bummer if it is something serious. I enjoy the diversity of visiting more then one site even though I have made this my first home. I hope it is just a technical glitch and will be back up soon.
  11. Here is my TT on a gen Alligator strap with custom solid 18k gold deployant clasp.
  12. That is a real bummer ... If you can't get a bezel or marker you might be able to pick up a used Arktos for parts.
  13. Yea thats the one .... mmmmmmmm
  14. Based on what you have said ... the colors of our stainless steel reps can make an adequate stand in for platinum, assuming they are not put side by side with the real metal of weighed. Is this a reasonable assumption or am I going too far? The reason i ask is because I am contemplating the new platinum Big Bang model and would just like to know how close the color will be to real platinum. Thanks
  15. I would like some opinions of the differences in color between stainless steel and platinum. I have never seen a platinum watch other than on my computer monitor and would like to know how our stainless steel reps colors differ from platinum. The rep of the Rolex Yacht-master is a good example of what I am trying to gauge. On the real thing the dial and bezel insert are platinum and on the rep they are stainless. Is the rep close or not? Cheers
  16. Monday ... starting the week with my AP RO Offshore
  17. For me Sirloin with Asparagus or Green Beans or Tomato slices and some old Cheddar Cheese. Coffee ... strong and black for after dinner. I eat out for lunch every day at my favorite restaurant and pick from a few favorites on the menu. I have been eating there for over 20 years ... The food is very good.
  18. I won't sleep with a watch because I don't want to damage the bed headboard if I bang it with the watch. I am not too concerned about damaging a watch though. As for taking it into the water ... I just can't bring myself to try a rep out in the water. I have a gen I use for swimming and when riding my PWC.
  19. I am only able to comment on Canada because I have no real first hand knowledge about life elsewhere other than as a tourist. Personally, I do not see any benefit to having a National ID card system here. I am not sure that it would solve more problems than it would create. When the Canadian government brought in a National firearm registry the cost of administration spiraled into the Billions of dollars and a whole new govt bureaucracy we created. Homicides by firearms have not gone down in Canada since its inception. I imagine a similar kind of bloated excessive cost bureaucracy would be created for a national ID card program here as well. Of course if someone wants a well paying, tenured for life civil service job, a National ID program would create plenty of those positions and likely have them located in the home riding of the sitting Prime Minister who brought the program in.
  20. Re-dials and maybe frankens. There have been many incarnations of Tudors. Buy what you like but do not pay too much. This a replica forum so re-dials and frankens fit right in. Welcome to the forum and try out the search function. There are loads of threads that can offer much useful information
  21. In Canada we do not need Id cards our govt does not fear terrorists or illegal immigrants. Full health care right was given to a Dialysis patient who entered Canada illegally in order to obtain medical care here rather than at home in India. Think of Canada as a big multi-cultural pizza ... some thing of everything in the topping mix. Instead of identity cards Canada's governors have created legislation and bureaucratic entities to search out and capture and tax money from the underground economy and from profits of crime under the guise of stopping fund raising for terrorist organizations. This is Bovine Scatology. The Tamil Tigers have been openly raising money in Canada for years and high level politicians including a former Canadian Prime Minister have attended their fund raising events in order to pander for votes from that ethnic community. In Canada it is all about taxing the underground economy. There is now actual legislation and an organization that tracks suspicious financial transactions. As this point Realtors, Accountants, Bankers and Financial Planners including Stock Brokers and Mutual Fund salespeople and Insurance Agents are required by law to report any suspicious transaction and its participants to the new govt body named FINTRAC. It is a crime not to report a suspicious transaction. FINTRAC initially attempted to include Lawyers in their cadre of state spies but were conjuncted by the courts from doing so (attorney / client privilege trumped the govt argument of national security) ... think East Germany and the Stasi Secret Police here. Currently, FINTRAC is working on expanding its spy network to include Auto Dealers, Casinos and Jewelers. Its all about the money not the safety of the citizenry in Canada. It is about squeezing every dollar of un-taxed money out of the economy. ID cards can not make things any worse than they are here already. The Canadian govt is spying on its citizens and has forced who professions to become state agents. Some of us are taxed in excess of 60% to 70% of our earnings when all levels of govt taxation are taken into account. Is it any wonder that some people would rather hide some of their earnings from the govt. Of course the govt tells us if we have nothing to hide we should not fear opening up our books and lives to it. The nanny State is here and now Big Brother has begun to watch us closely in Canada. State ID cards are likely coming but I believe that Canada's large and diverse ethnic immigrant population will put up a serious fight and that may be why we don't have them already. Ethnic groups in Canada have a lot political clout.
  22. That YM looks great on your wrist ... wish you much enjoyment. Looking forward to enjoying the strap and key chain and I have a 22mm pm buckle that will be perfect.
  23. I felt stressed just reading about your deadline story ... never mind having to live it. I am glad that I am not forced to work under firm deadlines like that. I do drive my wife and daughter a little crazy with my approach to time but my son is just like me. Both of us are very laid back about most everything not just time.
